Skyline Drivers Losers?
whatsisname replied to nickandsarah_83's topic in R Series (R30, R31, R32, R33, R34)
So 5 or 6 out of a 100 - add a few more - this proves nothing more than some people like to sample new/different models. I know quite few ex-FD RX7 owners that have moved on too - they got sick of the engine reliablity issues that come with owning a 13B. I must say though, how very surprising to see an ex-Skyline owner - mid range model at that - who has moved on and now owns a flagship Mazda model and is vocal about how good their new car is by comparision. ;-) -
Nope, none of that kind of thing around these parts, we're all dead stock standard and devoid of defects

If I was a cynical old (ish) bastard, I'd say what we have here is nothing more than standard government policy. It's a win-win for each state government - they get to implement a policy that has fantastic potential to raise additional state revenue, but masquerades quite nicely as a serious measure against youth driving issues. That said, I can see merit in age/power-to-weight restrictions. The one thing that all the measures in the world, driver training included, can never rectify is attitude, attitude towards the use of a motor vehicle, attitude towards road safety and attitude towards other motorists. Maturity, wisdom, and experience as a whole are things that cannot come from anything other than time - and it doesn't even need to be time behind the wheel. I have a few good friends and acquaintances that are young (25 or under) that will fall into the scope of this proposed policy, however, I know that they possess a level of maturity and have the right attitude to driving on public roads. Unfortunately, I think it is fair to say that they would be part of a minority.

Hey mate. Cool, I was 99% sure that was the case. That's still the plan. The rail is a straight swap between another BW customer - he needed an 11mm top-feed and I a 14mm. Worked out nicely. My old rail usually retails for ~$250 from James at Nisspeed - comes in either 11 or 14mm. James has one of each sitting on the shelf, I saw them on Saturday (13th Dec). The injectors came through a workshop owner mate of mine, he ordered them in for a customer and then they decided to go for 1000+cc stuff. He said ~$80-90ea, RRP is usually ~$100-120. I've had the injectors for a few days and I'm just about to go and give him the dollars now, so I'll find out the exact price shortly. Either way $100-120 isn't a bad price for a new top quality injector. $250 for a rail, $600-720 x 6 injectors, and some fittings and fuel line and you're good to go, be it 400hp or 1000hp. A set of direct fit Sard/Nismo/HKS etc. Side-feed injectors may or may not be cheaper, depending on the AU-Yen exchange rate at the moment.

Adrian, is that a suggestion to Lee to switch over to E85, or are you asking was the 273.9rwkw figure from switching to E85? My guess is the new power figure is still on 98RON petrol. Lee, nice result. I bet the torque increase feels good too. Add another couple of psi, some mild (256-264 region) cams and you'll go close to 300. Speaking of E85; I've got a new fuel rail (14mm o'ring - chromed and gleaming) a brand spankers set of 910cc Siemens and have just wired up some new connectors to suit. Now I just have to wait until the 06 Jan to tune it all. I don't think I'll need to upgrade injectors ever again. I started out with 780cc in mind, then decided to go for 870cc... then the 910's popped up.

Well, I've never met your grand father, so my comment still stands. One of my uncles reached the level of Commander in the Aust Navy (at Commander level it's the norm' to be a CO of a unit) He had numerous tattoos from his years of service and he always regretted them - he hid them as best he could. I've been in the military for almost 20 years, and I can honestly say I'm yet to find anyone that is as keen on his or her tatt's as they were in their younger years. Make of that what you will. All I'm saying is, that over time the enthusiasm of youth gives way to the age of regret. In a fair number of cases - in my personal experience - people with tatt's have regrets about ever having had them done in the first place, or at the very least, having so many that they've become hard to hide.
-
Hey, Penny, lucky for you your parents didn't share the same point of view... then again, if they did it would all be totally irrelevant I don't have any tatt's (the missus was keen for me to get one or two - not my style) but I've seen the odd rare one that looks okay... until the person ages (60+) and then it looks, well to be honest, tacky. I'm yet to meet a grand parent that doesn't hide their tattoos, or wishes they hadn't had them done in the first place.

Adrian, they're Siemens 870cc top feed injectors. I have a custom top feed rail - so much easier when searching for injector options. Siemens Racing Injector, designed for Aftermarket Performance Applications Suitable for 175HP per injector in Non-Turbo Applications Suitable for 139HP per injector for Turbo and Supercharged Applications 83 lb/hr (870cc/min) 14mm O'Ring Low Impedance (2.2ohms) Uses Bosch Style Square Connector (EV1) Also Suitable for Alcohol (Methanol) While we're on the topic of 870cc injectors and Guilt Toy's E85 beast, I see he is selling a set of 870cc Sard injectors.
-
Woo hoo! Whatever else! Nice. Okay, Ryan, included in the $450 I want a OS Giken 3.0L built, I'll have a HKS T51 SPL fitted... and I want you to give the car a wash and polish... with your tongue.
-
I recall a figure of 340rwkw on E85 from Guilt Toy too. A 'mild' single pump upgrade and a slight increase in fuel pressure probably means you've got a bit left in reserve if need be. I'm going to opt for 870cc injectors, that way I've got plenty of headroom should the need arise at a later stage down the track.

My old intercooler was a little over 50mm thick, not as aesthetically pleasing to me as it once was, and I wanted to go to a 600 x 300 x 100mm item - for the price of a decent intercooler of this size these days it's a no-brainer.
-
I've got 256 8.8mm/264 9.0mm HKS cams in mine. I saw a peak power gain of 20rwkw - dyno'd before and after, same day, same dyno.
-
Yep, that cooler and piping would be well out of their intended range. We sorted the 'little' cooler issue, but mine certainly had slipping on the rollers issues - it was smoking on the rollers.
-
Yes, very interesting indeed! By the way, Joel, it would appear you and I are aiming at exactly the same territory. I would like to see another 15-20rwkw from tuning the cams and adding some additional boost, and then switch to E85 for a few extra kilowatts on top. 340-350rwkw would be nice.
-
Spot on, Joel. In all my dyno runs pre the 'big' cooler it had that nasty top end fluctuation. Once the big cooler went in it disappeared. Unfortunately I haven't had a chance to see if dialling the cams in or adding more boost will bring the issue back as Shaun has been so busy we haven't had a chance to play again. The other major issue that might have caused a few problems in terms of peak power figures with my thing is the Mickey Thompson rubber - they don't like the knurled rollers at all. It was spitting out peak numbers all over the shop, from 270 to 290+. I'll have to put something a bit more suitable on the rear from now on.
-
1 or 2psi more would make a slight difference, depending on a host of variables. But either way, it's solid power and a great increase running on booze. All within a handful of kilowatts, Lee.
-
This weekend hey? Yeah why not, but only because there's going to be footy action on offer! Hey, Pete, I'll bring a Crows ball just for you ha-ha. Whilst I do enjoy Soccer, and follow Adelaide United (and the Socceroos - stupid name) as a good old fashioned Aussie bloke I can't bring myself to place it above AFL. It might be softer than ever before, but it's still tougher and more my style than the round ball game
-
Ah not stirring the pot at all, mate. It's good to see this kind of raw data (dyno sheet info'). Oh don't worry, my finger would be dislocated and removed from my hand if I pulled it out any further! Just waiting on parts etc.
-
278.5rwkw on the Willall Mainline to 302.2rwkw on the BW Dyno Dynamics, any changes made between the two runs? Interesting if there wasn't. Then again RB25DETS2 was within half a kilowatt from one to the other. By the way, Adrian/Martin, what sized injectors is it running to make that power on E85?
-
I'd be interested in that. I know someone that would be interested in Golf GT tweaking too
-
Yo, Adrian (sorry, I couldn't resist) guess what? Although I didn't have my GTS25t at the recent BW dyno day, not long before that day Shaun did a tuning dyno run that resulted in 302.3rwkw, and pretty much the same torque peak too. Have I mentioned yet, that I'm keen to get the 780cc injectors fitted, HKS cams dialled in, E85 tune done and then wind the boost up? Hurry up and arrive injectors!
-
RB25DET? Auto?
-
Hell yeah! +1 for the guy at the little place in Spain. He can do whatever you need with his eyes closed, in fact I think he does all his work with his eyes closed.

My interior. Very basic, but practial. Apologies for the poor quality pictures.

I've been 'detailing' my engine bay bit by bit over the last 7-8yrs, and if you want to pay a few extra dollars to use coloured anodised countersunk style washers, then the best option for ordering them in bulk quanities is to contact your local go-kart retailers. Anodised washers are commonplace on most go-karts. They usually have red, blue, silver, gold and a few other colours in stock at most go-kart stores. A little bit of research and you can usually find the supplier to the go-kart store. They aren't cheap though, expect to pay a lot to get enough to do a whole car... like I have You should be able make out the red anodised washers and stainless fasteners I've used throughout my R33 - I've used them on almost every area of the engine bay, bonnet, boot, exterior... sideskirts etc.
