  1. Has anyone ever considered getting this done? It occur's to me that a turbo option somewhere between the -9/-5 range would make ALOT of people happy. And seems like it would be a perfect match for a 2.6. I know some people will say its a waste of time and just choose from an existing turbo. But i have a set of GT-SS's where 1 needs a to be rebuilt, and currently have -5's on my car, I enjoy the -5's... but they do lack transient response and are a bit slower to get fired up. So if/when i decide to forge my engine its a perfect oppertunity to swap them out.. My thought would be turbos that could do 350kw on 98 (with all required supporting mods). On a 9:1 compression bottom end it would be a wicked street set-up. Or even with a 2.8 bottom capable of 360kw+ with full boost from say... 3200?... ballistic? thoughts?
  2. Cheers guys. I'll PM you about that cable Dan
  3. Quick question guys, does the Vipec V44/Link G4 ECU have a straight USB out socket, or is it some funky ECU-to-USB style cable thats required. i've dropped my car in at a reputable workshop in melbourne and they called to ask if i had a cable that would fit, my last two tuners from QLD had no issue... am i missing something? If it does have a seperate cable, does anyone have one i could borrow for 48 hours? Pm me Cheers Dan
  4. There are pros and cons to both plans Stockish cars if looked after can go forever; however, you may find you take it to the track for happy laps and the hicas fks out, brakes on their way out, suspension arms/geometry need replacing, bushes are flogged, etc and can have thousands just to get everything sorted. On the same note, find one with un damaged rails, no rust, good condition... It doesn't take THAT much $$ to get a 300kw GTR. A modified/forged one may seem a better value option, but unless I could see full receipts for the whole build and knew the place is reputable with RBs, I'd be a bit cautious. Just cause it's forged doesn't mean it can't go bang! Then your at square one again. But, generally the value of parts far exceeds what you would be paying, so it's not bad value. Honestly, I'm going to echoe others' comments here, if your fretting over 5-6k don't buy a gtr. They can get bloody expensive! If I was to sell my GTR and buy a new one, I'd be waiting around Untill a finished build turned up with the works, there's been some cars sold over the last 18 months that have gonr for about the cost of the engine alone
  5. ohh yeah my bad, i misread R32. my bizzle.
  6. mate be VERY careful about buying any second hand I just went through the headache of buying "5000km old" GT SS turbos, looked fkn immacualte, mechanic inspected said fractional shaft play on one, oither was g2g.. once installed it was fked out and wouldnt boost properly when getting tuned. Cost me an extra $5k for new turbos, stud kit, labour of the changover, tune and then the extra 2 and half hours of tuning already conducted on the old set (what should have been 6k for my job turned into 11) because a second hand turbo that seemd fine was bad Not saying this will happen to you, but you need to ask yourself is the 1k ish saving worth the thousands of dollars of risk and the uncertainty of what your getting. Plus the GT2871 (or equivelant) will be a more powerful unit, so it depends if you want more room to move. my 2c
  7. Thats "RB30" yeah? with the 3.2 spool stroker, dry sump setup? tings an animal (low 9s? i beleive?)
  8. Peddars should be able to do a wheel alignment no problem. Although I would advise against using then for any real skyline work, I was told they could remove hicas no problem(lockout kit provided) $750 later my power steering pump was fked, and bad fluid leaks. Just my experience.
  9. +1 for me ill have my car back from the workshop by then cant wait to see how it goes on the track!!!
  10. i should add there will be occasional track work, and if the engine lets go i'll possibly go -5's when rebuilding
  11. Well having just lodged my tax return im getting a lazy few thousand back... soooooo im thinking about getting poncams while i get everything else done.. given ive got the turbos fuel and exhaust im thinking it should be worth it.. now i've heard mixed thoughts about whether to go R, A or B, im thinking i might aswell go B cause the GT SS will be responsive as hell, i dont mind an angry lumpy idle and also if im going E85 down the track will help the top end figure? thoughts?1
  12. I've got them on my car at the moment (32gtr) and they are awesome value for money.. Surprisingly good grip in the wet! And good dry grip, I got about 8000km out if then but have done 3 track days and STACKS of runs through the mountain (plus had horrible geometry fir the first 6000, over 3 degrees camber and woeful toe misalignment!) Honestly it's hard to look past them, you will find the naysayers are all people who heard from a friend of a friend... People who have used them though from my observations have really positive feedback and considering you can get 2-3 sets fir the cost of most equivalent turned, I recommend them. My 2c
  13. I guess that settles it.. 460l it'll be. Can't wait to get my current turbos off now.. 21yr old vspec journal bearing, steel wheel old tech turbos are lazy as fk.
  14. I was contemplating a 460 unit, I just thought it would be excessive. I'm thinking about e85 next year but thought the 460 would sound like a lawn mower starting up.
  15. Hey guys I'm soon to get installed the following mods gtss turbos, tomei dumps, Hks front pipe, kakimoto 3.5" exhaust and either 3.5" straight pipe or 100cell cat I have a viper ecu, elec boost controller and handling mods I'm hoping fir 320-330 awkw on this, fir fuel set up I'm getting sard 700cc and planning on a Walbro 255l pump Is this all I'll need fuel wise to support my power goal or do I need to get a fuel pressure regulator and fuel rail too?? Any other thoughts on what I'll need to hit my goal?
  16. Sold. I highly recommend this guy as a seller. Top bloke, really easy to deal with, everything as described. Would buy from again Dan
  17. ooo, im in melbourne this weekend... and i;ve been looking for one of these. PM'd
  18. yeah great fun guys, thanks Mike for organising, and yeah the Z fellas were a good group. Im heading off for work for 6 weeks so ill see you all August sometime for the next event. ohh and yeah, how did those 31 accidents happen?
  19. yeah good event guys, alot of fun... few minor hiccups, (my immobiliser crapped itself when enterign the track haha) and the intercooler hose, but alls well that ends well. Seriously though, lakeside for next happy laps?? way better then QR imo thanks for organising the event guys, and thanks to the evos for coming out and having a run, and a special thankyou to Greg for letitng me borrow your tools; i wouldsta been up the proverbial otherwise.
  20. So i havnt paid via bank deposit, ive been away for work. can i please jsut pay cash tomorrow? i hadnt worred as previosuly ive paid on the day. Sorry if this is an issue. Dan
  21. damn, thats pretty nice Scotty. im guessing ujsing an ethanol based fuel? i Looked at the HTAs, the 3582 is bigger then what im looking for; this is a DD with a little trackwork but the daily part really is the considering factor, but the HTA3076 looks like its a nice peice of kit. Does anyone have any experience dealing directly with FP? i;ve heard people say they can take weeks and weeks to "prepare and deliver" products, i understand theyre overseas, but... i dont want to wait a month after order. plus im not sure if the extra $$ will be justified vs a GTX, there surely cant be THAT much difference between them (yes they are different compressor specs) it has gotten me thinking though.
  22. Thanks for the feedback. Dale good point, i having been studying the compressor maps, and it seems to point that the GTX3576 is at higher efficiency at fractionally lower airflow, but overall slightly less responsive, although twinscroll .82 i thionk would be a pretty nice steup. Scotty - im planning on 98 since ill be posting to Wagga Wagga next year for 12 months and will not have access to ethenol fuel. i anticipate once i move back to Brissy on moving to an e-flex setup. i was unable to find a Garret T4 divided housing option for the GTX30/35's though, is that an ATP rear housing option or something? Cheers Dan
