  1. Cheers. So I'm guessing it was an aftermarket Blitz GTR plenum and not a standard GTR plenum?? I'm assuming that the NEO was still a RB25 (head etc). Any idea why they would do that instead of using a plenum built for the RB25??
  2. Interesting. Was this a standard GTR plenum on the NEO or an aftermarket one (i.e Greddy). Anyone know how hard these would be to fit and whether it would be worth the effort, I mean, outside of making intercooler piping easier. The throttle cable would have to be adapted to suit, but anything else??
  3. PM sent
  4. Big congrats on getting the defect cleared . Just make sure you keep all the paperwork you got to clear the defect (even the old defect) in your glovebox, just in case they try to get you again.
  5. Would make a great upgrade for a N/A R33, Sylvia, or maybe even a 120Y. Now that would be insane!
  6. If the part was not produced for the car from the factory, it is considered a modification and must be engineered. For example, replacing a broken fuel pump with a similar Nissan pump is not considered a modification if it was built for that car, whereas putting a Bosch pump in instead is classed as a modification. Hence buying a part from a spares place is okay. Even factory options can be defected if your car was not built with it from the factory. i.e a optional sports exhaust. It is bulls***t, but I have seen it happen. Even had a friend defected for the H-pattern not being on his shifter. My advice, if it didn't come from the factory like that, legal or not, get it engineered to save some tight arsed cop taking your hard earned cash!!
  7. Only problem with aftermarket suspension is if the spring rates are not suitable for your car. I doubt this would be the reason in your case. The reason for the defect would be because the coilovers are not factory and you have no engineering certificate for them, not because they are not suitable for road use. Simply get the whole car engineered (cost me about $550 incl. GST). Save you further hassles down the road too!! In regards to the 7 days, the police are pretty lenient with this (i.e can't do it cos of work etc), just as long as you see them and arrange an extension.
  8. For sale is this almost complete NEO RB25DE from a 1998 R34. Only pieces missing from the engine are the intake crossover pipe from the air filter to throttole body, and the sump, as these were used in the turbo conversion on my car. The engine is in excellent condition and has only done 17000kms. Also included is the ECU and wiring harness to make a conversion as easy as possible. Harness is 95% complete, outside of a section (to do with the wipers) needed to be cut out to be used. I have no set price at the moment, however offers near $900 will be seriously considered. Will freight anywhere in Australia.
  9. The only reason I'd get an aftermarket BOV is if the stock one was leaking (thus loosing boost). Reasons for this have been stated above, but most importantly the fine you get when defected for it is not worth it, expecially if all you want it for is to make some noise. If you still want one, try a Stealth FX from GFB. They have a model built specifically for R33's and bolts on in a matter of minutes. I'm sure that Turbosmart also make adaptor kits for R33's as well for all their BOV's.
  10. A bit of a gain can be made with the addition of an aftermarket computer with the added bonus of it running cleaner and more efficient. Keep in mind though a heavily modified N/A GTS will still struggle to keep up with even a lightly modified GTSt. My advice, save the cash and do an RB25DET engine conversion. While more expensive in the short term, it will be far cheaper to extract more power out of it down the road. I did it on my R34 and have not looked back!! My 2 cents.
  11. Buy the S13, and save the rest of the money for a deposit on a house. Then in 5 or so years, sell the house and with the money you make on it, buy a real GTR!! Getting into large amounts of debt over a car is just simply not worth it. especially at a young age. I've done it twice  My 2 cents.
  12. Highly recommended, but as noted, HKS no longer make them due to the tightening of noise regulations over there. I have one on my R34 (stock front pipe and cat) and it didn't even trouble the engineer (only 82db @ 4700rpm). Looks the part too!!
  13. Considered the HKS Type S coolers?? They use the same pipe location as the stock cooler.
  14. Blitz make an exhaust for the R33. I think its called the Nur-Spec and looks similar to the standard exhaust.
  15. My R34 runs an auto ECU (out of a Stagea) but is a manual and I have not noticed this.
  16. Yep. Very simple swap, once the harnesses are sorted out. Would be worth checking Quickfit out. They were a big help in my conversion!!
  17. Be careful about using an HKS R33 FMIC kit as some of them are not compatible with automatic transmissions (i.e most Stageas), due to the transmission cooler being in the road.
  18. I will be speaking to an engineer later this afternoon about getting my engine swap engineered and will ask him then. I have had an emissions test done on my last car before it was engineered, and the rta dude said that it would be fine once I get the car to pass the emissions test. However without the car actually passing an emissions test before I sold it, I can't confirm this. However, would an engineer check for an aftermarket computer?? I have had my R34 fully engineered in the past and the engineer didn't even consider it!
  19. Read this in another thread:
  20. Sounds like compressor surge, not your BOV.
  21. 170,000kms? On an R34 . Got mine for a little over $30k and it had only 15,000 on the clock. Great car!!
  22. Sounds like a good deal! Look forward to hearing about it when its all finished!!
  23. I had tried a couple of different types of BOVs on my Lancer before settling on a hybrid. In my opinion they are the best of both worlds - they vent to atmosphere and recirculate as well, which stopped my Lancer backfiring on gear shifts. I have also sold many of these types of BOVs (GFB's Stealth FX BOVs have been popular) to friends etc and have not heard any complaints. I have yet to fit one to my Skyline, but if I had a choice, I would probably go a hybrid.
  24. I pondered the same conversion - RB26 into R34 GT. However, just the sheer pain of finding a late model RB26 to me made the conversion a dream. Even finding a late model RB25 NEO was impossible (outside of a Stagea which I eventually ended up with). Either that or I'm just looking in the wrong places!!
  25. And act stupid! Don't know how many times claiming that I didn't know a mod had to be engineered save me from getting a canary!! I've had my R34 fully engineered here in Coffs Harbour for $500, with a discount being given on future mods if done within 3 months between engineering. i.e $120 to engineer a pod filter, etc. Can be an expensive exercise getting your car engineered, but not as expensive as not!! My two cents.
