  1. High beam = same as low beam = H1 Assuming you are talking about the twin beam R33 headlamps (some [all?] S2 4 doors have a combined unit with a single H4 bulb for high/low beams). Fog light/driving light - S1 (rectangular light, combined with indicator assy) or S2 (round light) type front bar?
  2. Also here is a possible source for R33/34 GTR indicators that I stumbled across today while looking for something else: http://www.whifbitz.co.uk/skyline-hid.htm (bottom of that page) They are in the UK though.
  3. I could be wrong, but I think that the S15/R33GTR/R34 side indicator assy is used on a few other post -98 Nissans. Can anyone else confirm this - if I get time I'll have a quick look in the FAST catalogue. If they are on an Aussie delivered car you might be able to find one at the wreckers. And you are right, the 'Nismo' side indicators for R33's won't fit as they are a direct replacement for the factory R33 GTS ones: http://www.nismo.com.au/pricelists/Nismo/n...ismowinkers.jpg
  4. If you aren't too worried about the brand, found the following after a quick google search: http://www.strathfield.com/Products.asp?CatID=186 There are plenty of similar cheap no-brand units out there. Though that JVC unit is pretty good value for money I reckon, cheaper than some high end CD units I've seen!
  5. R33 non-GTR gaurd indicators are definitely different to R33 GTR and R34 indicators. GTS etc indicators are inset into the gaurd, whereas the GTR and R34 ones sit proud.
  6. Not really a fair comparison, the Legnum is fundamentally a smaller car than the Stagea (Stagea more comparable with Camry/Diamante/Falcon/Commodore wagon). So no surprises that the Stagea is a bit of a barge compared to the Legnum. A better comparison would be a Scoobie Legacy/Liberty. The Legnum is also fundamentally a FWD car, whereas the Stagea is fundamentally RWD. Finally the Legnum - well, it's a Mitsi.... There was a case here where Legnum's equipped with stability control were ordered off the road by the NZ authorities due a fault that could lead to the brakes failing - that kicked off the whole Mitsi quality/recall issue in NZ after a dealer driving a Legnum one night crashed thru an intersection due to this fault....
  7. Yep, there are more than a few in-car DVD players that do just that, they have an NTSC video output on them so that they can be plugged into OEM screens that have a video aux-in connector.
  8. R33 GTS25 coupe is 147kw @ 6400rpm/1330kg (in Type S form): http://english.auto.vl.ru/catalog/21695/ Redline is 7000 rpm. So you might struggle a bit vs a GTS25 type S?
  9. If you haven't done so already, better read up on what's involved in getting a Skyline into the US legally - thanks to your laws it isn't at all easy (and at the moment may be impossible). Have a look at the following forums for more info: Skylines downunder USA forum: http://forums.skylinesdownunder.co.nz/foru...p?s=&forumid=37 Freshalloy Skylines forum: http://forums.freshalloy.com/ubbthreads/po...Cat=&Board=UBB4

  11. Owww, reading that makes my head hurt, haven't had to think about that kind of control systems stuff since Uni....... :headspin: Yep, my conclusion on what they mean by 'model following' is more or less the same. Basically the system has a built in model of what the driver is expecting the car to do for a given steering angle and speed, and the controller dynamically adjusts the rear wheel angle to acheive that effect. And it isn't only about the direction the car is travelling in, the HICAS will also affect the balance of the car - it affects the suspension loading on each side as well. I really need to figure out how to communicate with the HICAS controller - from what you say the R33/34 system is on the Consult bus (initially I didn't think it was), which means that it should be possible to establish communication with it via the Consult PC interface. If it is the same as the Z32 unit (for which the interface details have been posted online) then it should be possible to read out and log the various parameters including rear wheel angle etc. Regarding the position of the controller - I would assume that the fact that it is mounted off centre is incorporated into the programming of the unit, therefore moving it to the centre would probably degrade rather than enhance the response, unless you were able to change the programming somehow. Guess I'll wait to see your analysis of the internals of the unit!
  12. If you are feeling brave, check out this japanese site: http://uzzan.web.infoseek.co.jp/ Translate it thru babelfish if needed: http://babelfish.altavista.com/ They seem to stock a whole heap of different Nissan connectors, mostly Z32 stuff but I saw a few connectors that look like the one you are trying to source. I've emailed them before in English and got a response, so they seem to be happy to deal with people outside Japan.
  13. Yup, electronics engineer, how did you guess ?! R34 HICAS unit has dedicated VSS signal input - interesting... Can you confirm whether or not there is a Consult bus input to the unit? Silicon rate gyro - it is essentially a couple of accelerometers combined in one package to detect acceleration in the x, y and (if it is a 3d unit) z directions. They just call it the old-school 'gyro' name as this used to be implemented with dirty great big gyroscopes. Those sensors are also used in automotive nav applications, where dead reckoning takes over from GPS when no or intermittant signals are present. When you get the R33 unit crack it open and take some pics, and we can work out what is what on the board.... Your comment on the wheels moving on the dyno reminded me of a review I read in a local mag here on the R34 GT-T - they commented that the HICAS had a self steering effect in crosswinds etc. So you could be right, the accelerometers are there to detect externally caused motion that can't be derived from wheel position. Yep, have read the same comments about the HICAS making the car behave unusually on the track, though I guess those sorts of comments are coming from experienced drivers who know how to control the rear end of the car, whereas the HICAS takes over that function for those of us who aren't professional racing drivers! And have also read the trash talk from others - they seem to have little or no idea what HICAS actually does for them. Blame the current fascination with drifting I guess, where your car is nothing if you can't do big powerslides! Personally I prefer to go round corners quickly, rather than sideways, but that's just me.... Also noticed that the M45/Fuga has HICAS, which surprised me as I thought Nissan had dropped the system. Not sure if the V35 Skyline/Infiniti G35/350Z have it - they all use the same chassis as the M45. Better get back to work myself!
  14. Might be 2 sensors as I thought the right and left wheels can move by different amounts (due to the suspension geometry)? They would be for motor control - so the control unit can move the wheels to the correct angle. And since the control unit has calculated what the angle should be, it then would feed that number back into the yaw rate calculation. I think on older cars the HICAS unit gets the speed from the ECU via the CONSULT data bus - on a Z32 you can query the HICAS unit from the CONSULT connector but I've yet to hear of someone being able to query the HICAS unit in a R33 or 34 Skyline - I've tried myself and the addressing scheme that works for the Z32 doesn't work. Which indicates that the R33/34 control unit has the speed as a discrete input rather than going to the trouble of tapping into the CONSULT bus. That was my initial thought too - as you may know in R33 Skylines the HICAS control unit is located under the parcel shelf on the rear axle line. Though not dead centre, it is offset to the right. It may use a PCB mounted accelerometer, there are surface mount accelerometers available. Anyone know where the HICAS unit is in a R34? On the topic of the effects of HICAS, does anyone have a critique of why HICAS is such a problem? I've read a lot of comments from people who don't like HICAS - usually drifters where it stops them from oversteering (which is kinda the point of the system!), but no real reasoned arguments as to why it is such a bad thing on a road car?
  15. OK, I have a theory: Thinking about what yaw rate really means - it is essentially the rate of rotation about the centre of the rear axle line. And this should be able to be derived from the angle of the front wheels (ie steering angle) and the vehicle speed - as per the description fron Nissan. The only time I can think of where these inputs wouldn't reflect the actual yaw rate is in an oversteer or understeer situation, which would mean an accelerometer would be needed. But given that HICAS is supposed to stop oversteer/understeer, then maybe the assumption is made that these 2 inputs are all that is required. Also obviously once the HICAS unit changes the rear wheel angle then this change would need to be integrated into the yaw rate calculation, however as the HICAS unit already has this info then this would be easy to do.
  16. Plug drawings/diagrams and (typical) wire colours: http://www.installdr.com/Harnesses/Nissan-Wiring.pdf From those diagrams you should also be able to work out the function of each wire.
  17. Search button is your friend...... http://www.skylinesaustralia.com/forums/sh...ead.php?t=47288
  18. GT-V was RWD only. Bayside blue was available in as an option on most models I think, but it doesn't seem to be a popular colour in Japan, from what I've heard the most popular R34 colours were white and silver. The 4wd R34 was called the 25GT FOUR (Coupe/Sedan), 25GT-X FOUR (sedan only), or 25GT FOUR L SELECTION (sedan only). And as per the naming it came with the non-turbo 2.5L RB25DE. More details here: http://english.auto.vl.ru/catalog/nissan/skyline/
  19. Post the VIN number in the Nissan FAST thread in the maintenance section, someone with FAST will be able to give you the details. Or PM me with the number....
  20. Definitely - as far as the ECU is concerned the crank isn't turning (as it isn't getting a pulse from the sensor) therefore it won't fire the next plug and injector.
  21. Can't believe no-one has said this already, check the factory VIN plate: HR34/HR33/HR32 = 2.0L ER34/ER33/ER32 = 2.5L Thus H = 2.0L, E = 2.5L. Note that there may be other letters between the H/E and the R, these denote things like HICAS etc. This of course assumes that the engine hasn't been changed from the factory......
  22. Err, that's an interesting looking car. HR33 - yup, sounds like he has either got it wrong (H=2.0L engine, should be E for the 2.5), or it is really a GTS and he is trying to pass it off as a turbo. Ask for a pic of the engine bay/vin plate. Also not so sure about it being a 96 - it has a S1 front, AFAIK all post 96 cars have the S2 front end. It does have a S2 wing, though that is a relatively common mod for S1 owners, also some '95 cars have S2 wings (and other S2 bits) from the factory and are known as S1.5. Definitely ask for the VIN number and post it up here (or PM me), then either myself or someone else can use FAST to check out exactly what it is for ya.
  23. High voltage probably implies that its state isn't changing - ie the signal from it should pulse in response to the magnet attached to the crank or cam passing by it. At a guess either the sensor itself is dead, or the activating magnet is not working properly.
  24. Tehehe, in NZ blue badges on R33's are common as dirt, probably because there seem to be a heap of 2L GTS models around at the moment, they out-number the GTS25T's by probably 3 to 1! And GTS25's by about 100 to 1....
  25. What does it say on the VIN plate - RB25DET or RB25DE? Where is the sticker you refer to? Err, by family car I meant they sell cars like the Maxima, Sunny, Pulsar etc as well, I guess the NA Skylines are the top of the 'family friendly' cars? I'm not sure where the Prince dealership chains fit with the Blue stage/Red stage thing. Anyway, tis just a theory....
