  1. Err, Toyota, umm, that would have been my.... Nope, wouldn't have guessed that! This one here then: http://www.ftpi.net/doc0/spe/06/2002navi/navi07.shtm Judging by some of the other pages that google turned up it looks like a fairly recent unit - 2002/2003 or thereabouts. Are there any Aussie delivered Toyota or Lexus models which come with a nav option? If so you could try Toyota Aussie, though they may not want to know. Other option would be one of the Toyota/Lexus owners forums?
  2. Sweet, it's a GTS25 then. If you can have a look at the muffler, assuming it still has the standard one look for a mechanism attached to 1 of the 2 outlets from the rear of the muffler. If there is a valve looking mechanism there, then you have a type S with 147kw. If not then you've got 140kw. Other place to look is behind the boot lining on the left hand side below where the jack is located, you'll see an actuator with a cable that runs to the valve in the muffler. If the actuator isn't there then it isn't a type S. Minor details though, if you buy it have fun!
  3. You are correct - that is basically what the power steering controller does, varies the assistance in inverse proportion to the speed - high assistance at low speeds for parking, low assistance at high speeds for good steering feel/response. Not sure if this is a simple on/off valve or if it is pulsed to provide different levels of assistance across the speed range. You wouldn't want full assistance at speed, as the steering would feel very vague - just like a commodore does due to its over-assisted power steering.
  4. Do a search for manuals - there is a thread in the maintenance section (I think) where someone has a FTP host for a whole bunch of manuals, including the R34 service manual, which has wiring diagrams etc for most of the car. I vaguely recall reading about the keyless entry stuff in that.
  5. Short answer unfortunately is no, and no. See this thread for a discussion on the same topic and a company that can do the TV conversion (at a price....): http://www.skylinesaustralia.com/forums/sh...ead.php?t=67425 Re the GPS, there aren't that many companies that do maps for Aussie, and AFAIK none of them are compatible with the Japanese GPS systems. First step would be to work out who makes the unit (may have to take it out of the dash), and then see if that company does a product for the Aussie market. If it is a factory fitted GPS unit, it will most likely be made by Clarion or Sony and I'm 99% certain that neither of them do maps for the Aussie market that would be compatible with a JDM system.
  6. Nope, only the R32 was cursed with the CA18, was called the GXi. Though the R33 GTS has the RB20E (ie SOHC head) which is almost as bad (no offence to GTS owners out there!)..... You are correct about the GTS4 - Stevie's post is wrong, there is no such thing as a (factory) 2.5L Turbo GTS4, unless it has been converted using a RS4 Stagea motor.
  7. Note that the non-type S R33 GTS25's are 190PS (139.75kw). Difference between the R33 models is that the type S has a variable capacity muffler. which the non-type S doesn't have, I think that explains the difference. As for the R32 <> R33 GTS25 type S difference, as someone has said AFAIK the R33 has the VCT head, which the R32 doesn't have. The R32 also doesn't have the variable capacity muffler. The whole weight thing is a bit of an urban legend, the reality is that the R33 whale actually weighs sod all more than the R32. Just the design makes it look a lot heavier. Ultimately it comes down to your preference for the exterior/interior design, and the fact that the R33's are newer.
  8. The WGC34 Stagea (96 - 01) is based on the C34 Laurel platform, which is also the basis for the R33 platform. Drivetrain is basically the R33 system. The M35 Stagea (01 - current) is essentially just a wagon version of the V35 Skyline/G35. So platform is identical AFAIK. If my impression of the new GTR rumours are correct, then it will answer your prayers - will basically be a TT (engine displacement still unknown) V35 (probably V36 by the time it comes out) coupe with the ATTESA and maybe HICAS as well..... Re the yaw sensor stuff - you're making my head hurt again..... Haven't had time to wade my way thru the links you've posted, but when I do I'll post up my thoughts... I thought you'd cracked it with the fact it might use discrepancy in individual rear wheel speeds to derive the yaw rate - very clever. But you're right, only 1 VSS input - doh!
  9. Sorry, was just generalising on what kinds of cars the red stage/blue stage dealers sell - AFAIK red stage sold GTR/300ZX's/Luxo-barges and so on, whereas blue stage sold mostly Pulsars/Maximas etc. But I think in practice you could purchase anything in the lineup from either dealer channel, just that one specialised in the high end and the other didn't. So your car is probably the same as any other R32 GTS4, just that it was sourced thru a blue stage dealer for whatever reason. However this applies to cars sold in the early/mid 90's, these days red stage and blue stage carry pretty much the same lineup, and I've heard that Nissan are doing away with the difference in branding and going to a single dealer identity. And yes, I think there was an element of trying to differentiate the GTS4 from the GTR in the R33 model that left it with a non-turbo engine.
  10. That's left hand side as you look from the front of the car toward the back of the engine bay. Just to the left of the brake master cylinder. 24 valve - yup, that would indicate a RB25DE (GTS25) as I think the RB20E (GTS) is 12 valve due to the SOHC head? Dayne - yup, GTS's are still better than a lot of cars out there! Just be sure that you don't pay a premium for one. In NZ the GTSs are significantly cheaper (and thus far more common) than the GTS25s.
  11. If only it was that simple - my NA R33 GTS25 has red badges..... At the moment the most likely theory on the Blue badge/red badge thing that I know of is that Blue = Nissan Blue stage dealer in Japan, Red = red stage dealer. And red stage = performance stuff, blue = ordinary/family stuff. So by the looks of things all turbos were sold thru red stage dealers, and the odd GTS25 was sold thru them as well. Getting back to the point, the R33 GTS4 came in 2 and 4 door form, though the 2 door seems pretty rare, have only ever seen a couple, 4 doors are a bit more common. They are essentially a GTS25 with 4wd running gear. GTR drivetrain - same bits but not as strong AFAIK, not sure what gearbox they use but I doubt it is the same as the GTR. I've heard of people converting R33 GTS4's using the Stagea RS4 engine (making it a GTS25T-4?!) or going for the full noise GTR conversion using a RB26DETT. Basically the R33 GTS4 was not designed to be a performance monster, more a 'Hokkaido spec' car - many JDM models came in a low volume 4wd form for use in snowy areas, eg Hokkaido.
  12. Won't light up for radiator/coolant fluid levels. Will light up for low power steering fluid. You need a HICAS boss kit to sort your steering wheel problem - do a search for more info on those.
  13. Take care it isn't a GTS, those have the SOHC 2.0L engine - will have for the engine designation RB20E on the firewall plate if it is. They are 'somewhat' underpowered.... Most likely it is a GTS25, as mentioned that will have RB25DE on the firewall plate. 200HP from the NA 2.5 means they are fairly quick.....
  14. Read my posts further up - the HICAS controller is a dual purpose unit, it controls both the HICAS assembly and the front power steering weighting. There are non-HICAS controllers which live in exactly the same place in a R33 (not sure about R32) and look the same, but only control the power steering weighting.
  15. Wow, great progress. The body of HICAS knowledge has just been hugely increased thanks to your efforts! AFAIK the electrically actuated HICAS was introduced with the R33 series (and 94+ 300ZX's?), it may be that when they redesigned the system to use the electrical actuation the yaw-rate feedback stuff was introduced at the same time? May explain why your pre-91 documentation doesn't mention it. Putting the electric HICAS into your 300ZX - sounds like a very interesting project!
  16. You wouldn't be able to copyright/patent this as there is plenty of 'prior art' (patent-speak for the same thing done before) out there - mp3car.com is just one of many sites on the topic! As for 12VDC - 240VAC inverter - you don't need one. Virtually all PC's and most small LCD screens only require low voltages, so all you need is a DC-DC coinverter for the PC that takes 12VDC in and outputs the various PC voltages (usually +/-12V and +/-5V). In the car PC world the Opus units are fairly well known, and they also are designed such that the PC remains on while cranking the engine, and have a shutdown controller that will power off the PC if the battery voltage is low. Here's a selection of supplies including the Opus ones: http://www.mp3car.com/store/index.php?cPath=21 The LCD screen can either be powered off the Opus or some come with their own conditioner that takes the unregulated car 12V supply and converts it to the correct voltage for the screen.
  17. Nope: - All R33 GTS25T's (and R34 GT-T's?) have it, as do all GTR's - Type M R32 GTS-T's have it. - AFAIK non-type M R32 GTS-T's don't have it. - Some R33 GTS25's have it. - All other models don't. Here is a pic from FAST of the 2 options for an R33: http://www.imagestation.com/picture/sraid1...6f.jpg.orig.jpg And according to this thread here: http://www.skylinesaustralia.com/forums/sh...ead.php?t=71568 The one on the left is called the 'power steering controller' and the one on the right is the 'HICAS controller'. And they look to be the same size and shape, and are mounted in the same place under the parcel shelf. Thanks to ACEMANN for figuring that one out.
  18. I had a thought after I wrote that message, you could replace the HICAS controller with the non-HICAS (ie power steering only) controller. Next time I'm using FAST I'll see if one exists for the R32.
  19. A couple of things to add: - As hinted at by several people in this thread, the HICAS controller in a R33 also controls the (front) power steering weighting. So disconnecting the controller results in the steering always being weighted at the 'heavy' end of the scale, whereas normally the weighting is proportional to speed - slower = lighter for easier parking.... Note that AFAIK R33's w/o HICAS have a seperate power steering only controller located in the same location as the HICAS controller. - No-one has said this explicitly I don't think, note that the HICAS in the R32 and R33/34 is different: R32 uses hydraulic actuation whereas the R33/34 uses electric actuators to move the wheels. So comments about power steering fluid lines at the rear only apply to R32's....
  20. Ok, codes go like this: 1st letter = engine size: B = 2.6L E = 2.5L H = 2.0L ? = 1.8L (R32 GXi only) 2nd/3rd letter(s) = optional stuff: C = HICAS N = ATTESA AWD Note that the R34 GTR's seems to drop the 'C' designation (so they are BNR34), despite the fact that they have HICAS. R32/33/34 = R (Skyline) series chassis and iteration.
  21. Fixing the speedo cables should take care of the HICAS and power steering weight issue, have a look at my post in this thread: http://www.skylinesaustralia.com/forums/sh...793#post1356793
  22. HICAS, power steering 'weight' and the vehicle speed sensor (VSS) are all related.... Basically the ECU and HICAS/Power steering controller get a VSS input from the dash in a R32. So if the dash sensor isn't working then the HICAS controller will show a fault - from reading the R34 manual it is something like if it sees the RPM over 1500 for a certain period of time without seeing any speed input it throws a fault code, hence the time delay you are seeing. Also by the looks of things when the controller detects a fault it defaults to no power assistance, which is why the steering suddenly goes heavy. Fix the dash problem and you should fix the HICAS fault code and power steering weight problem. Jwah - do a HICAS diagnostic test: http://www.overflow.250x.com/diagnostics.htm That should determine what the problem is on your car. Also anyone having HICAS problems should read this thread: http://www.skylinesaustralia.com/forums/sh...ead.php?t=71230
  23. Type M applies to turbo models - R32 type M's had better brakes and few extra goodies. In the R33 series all turbo's are Type M. Type S applies to non-turbo's, not sure about the difference in the R32 series but for R33's (GTS25 only) you get 10 extra HP, standard HICAS (I think) and a few other extras. Have a look here for more info: http://english.auto.vl.ru/catalog/nissan/skyline/
  24. Ahh, now I see what you want... When I get a spare moment I'll see if I can get you the part number(s) from FAST.
  25. Do you actually have driving lights in your S1 bar - most S1 R33's that I've come across (inc mine) don't have any bulbs inside the housing? If you do - pls post pics of the wiring/bulb mounting if possible as I'd like to get these going on my car at some point in the future....
