im about to install some new speakers into the car and just wondering if the stock wiring for the stock speakers are alright to use for the new speakers.

I am really concerned about this because on my last car i install ed some new speakers and it worked alrite but i could smell some strange burning smell whenever i pumped up the volume...

Also is it better to just stick to 6" speakers in the rear since im gonna have a sub running or should i go with 6x9"s????

cheers

I'm with the Pred.

I personally think 6x9's are a waste of time. Decent 6's and a sub/amp will be heaps better.

Your stock wiring should do fine. I'm running good speakers from an amp using stock wiring (for part of the front at least - i reckon the effort of running new wires to the front doors is not worth it) and i have no complaints.

The smell may be the actual speakers themselves, not necessarily (sorry if i can't spel :D ) the wiring. Most speakers generally don't draw current to the point that it will melt the wires (most car wiring can handle at leat 10amp).

I could be wrong, but all the same I reckon you'll be fine.

i decided to use my stock wiring however i decided to put in 6.9's for my own reasons which i cant be bothered explaining, however it was a mighty task so if ur not prepared to slug it out in the back seat for 1 full day hacking away sweating like a byuetch and cuting urself every way possible just go with the 6 inches, that way u can use the stock speaker grills and conceal ur stereo from woodbee whores!

i think the decision to use stock wires really comes down to how good you want the overall system to sound - if your putting in high end speakers then you will be really shooting yourself in the foot if you dont upgrade the wires. Whats that law - the system is only as good as its worst part...

I'd be carefull trying to run too much current down your stock wires. The thinner the wire, the higher the resistance, the more heat that would be output. It doesn't take much to start the insulation smouldering. It also wouldn't be doing the rest of your system justice.

Quality wire doesn't cost the earth and is fairly easy to install through a skyline.

The 6" + sub combo should do you well.

i'd leave my stock speakers and spend more money on the sub/amp, and amplifier the splits really nicely.

skylines r small cars inside the back seat so theres not much point for rear fill when u've got a sub and nice splits.

thats my opinion anyway, it'd sound awesome with 6's aswell im sure (:

u can use stock speaker wires, the smell u were smelling was probably the seal from the speakers on the sides etc. i doubt it was from the wires.

dont go 6x9's if u've got a sub, theres no point... good 6's would give good enough bass too, whatever bass it doesnt output, comes from ur sub, and u'd rather those hard lower frequencies coming from ur sub, 6x9's would take them away.

It's always required that the speaker cable be upgraded when higher current (ie from an amplifier) flow is required.

As for 6x9's, you sit at the front and your ears face forward, so why (unless you're running DTS etc) bother with any speaker in the back? Besides, the stock ones do their job of fill good enough. :(

fhrx,

yeah hiss changes with the revs. i just bought this car and it came with a sony xplod md head unit 50x4W running the back speakers direct from head unit (130W kenwoods 2 way) with an amp of some sort (avantgarde comp series? - its silver and 4 channel anyway) running the fronts and a xplod sub on a bridged channel. the hissing seems to come from the fronts. i used to have this problem in my old prelude, but i fixed it when i seperated the power cable to the RCA's. In the skyline thou, the power cord is right to the battery in the boot as you know so i cant seperate them any further.

Quality brands usually have their branding all over their products.

no name stuff i think thou.

There lies your problem. :)

High end installers are always crapping on about using high end cable. There is a good reason for this.

Like you don't use quarter inch plastic fuel lines on a nitro funny-car, nor should you use cheap cables on your stereo or this sort of thing happens.

Now bare in mind I am only going on what you have told me. If you want a more definate answer to what is causing it, I can come and meet you somewhere and diagnose the system no problems. :)

    • Check the injectors flow evenly, and are actually flowing what you and the ECU think they should be flowing. If it's starting up on starter fluid, you have a fuel issue. Is it possible under cranking your fuel pump is turning off?   The harness you replaced, is that the whole engine harness? Do yourself a test, and drop the old harness on and plug it into the Z32 ECU. It's possible they've wired things different. From memory S1 to S2 is different in RB25 and you may have a wrong loom
    • I haven’t pulled the injectors to watch them spray yet but they are clicking from the cas and all of the spark plugs are wet with fuel. I’ve thought the cylinders were being flooded from the beginning and was hoping fuel pressure would fix it. Tonight I am going to pull the rail and watch the injectors spray. Don’t know how to test/diagnose if the plugs are firing in correct sequence but that should be a timing thing and as far as timing goes my car still has the half moon for the cas can only install it 1 way. And my mechanical timing is 100% correct I posted photos above. Confirmed with the balancer on and off.
    • I checked spark on all cylinders and they all visually have spark with the plug pulled and grounded, but plug 1 is the only one that fouled. This was a running swap that blew up and was rebuilt by a machine shop, put a new wiring specialties harness and did all gaskets, studs, and bolts while it was out.  compression is 135-150 across all cylinders. Aside from that from my understanding with the z32 ecu and maf the car should start regardless. The wiring for TPS and the dual 02 sensor/ dual knock sensor stuff shouldn’t actually stop the car from starting or even running well, (just slightly rich)  they just give fault codes. Car supposedly is supposed to start as long as you have z32 afm and ecu with the nistune base map and that’s info coming from a well known and trusted tuner who does a lot with SR/RB (Rsenthalpy). After more trouble shooting today where I’m at right now is that the cas is sending signal to the injectors they click while spinning the rotor, Fuel pressure is now set at 43psi, all cylinders have good compression and all of the plugs looked great (just wet with fuel) except for cylinder 1 which was very black (cylinder 1 has 150psi compression). all of the coils generate spark if pulled out and grounded out on the head. On the fuel pump car just pops into the exhaust. On starting fluid car will fire off. Hard to tell if all cylinders are firing off but definitley a couple. sounds like all of them but it’s only for 3-5 seconds hard to tell.
    • Final update!!! Got the front bar fitted and sprayed and all sorted now. My cutouts worked great and the indicators aren’t just falling off. 😂
