Engineers, Anyone Know Any? Prefer Melbourne

Recommended Posts

He is forgetful, and changes his mind every time he looks at your car. He's also in Glen Waverley, and will come to you. I don't have his details though.

Will charge $500 for an engineers cert. Inc. chassis and structural inspection. And braking distance and fade test.

this sounds like the man i need to see  , anyone know how i can track him down?

Im not reall %100 sure about everything..

But when i do go get a engineers certificate, it will state that my car is legal with the neccersary mods, would i need to go back to vicroads with this? or just keep a copy in my glove box? with epa, ive fitted everything like the charcole canister/airbox/cat.

But other than that, it been engineerd can save me alota of hassels right? and if he says no he will tell me what i need to get done?

thanks guys

Nate

Being registered with an rb25det does not mean it is legal. :)

But i didn't know about the 30 day thinggy.  There must be something that is permanent.

.

what that means is for example....i put a rotary in say a nissan micra i got 30 days to get to vic roads to get it registered or let them view the vehicle to change there database..

Im not reall %100 sure about everything..

dude,

i have a friend who is a qualified mechanical (automotive) engineer that can help you out.

he is really good and only wants to do the job one way, and that's the right way.

his name is Paul Bottomley and he is part owner of APS( Automotive Performance Solutions) over in Heidelberg, give him a call on 9455 3222.

let him know that u know myself (goran - rs500), and he should help you out.

cheers.

, i though it was somthing you can carry around as proof your car is all legal. My car is already registerd with the rb25det so no dramas, but you know, the police :P

If the car is already registered with an RB25, then thats all you need to worry about.

but still, it being engineered dose help!

No it does not help one iota.

so i mayaswell get somthing on paper to shut up the picky cops

You cant get it engineered with a PowerFC

You cant get it engineered with a boost controller.

You cant get it engineered with a I/C and a pod etc etc etc

If thats what you think an engineer is going to approve... then your mistaken...

You would also need an emissions test if thats what you wanna do... and that isnt cheap.

End of the day, if its registered with an RB25, then the police cant do anything relating to that if the motor is in standard spec.

What exactly do you need an engineers to "stop" the police picking?

hrmm many things in this thread conflict, but i trust your word ash!

When i got pulled over he only picked on the pod and didnt say a thing about the cooler, he assumed i had the rb30e and turbo'd it. Epa sent me a letter, but just said to fix it, i didnt have to go there phewf

If its rego'd with the RB25 and you got an EPA

just rock-up to the EPA and they will go through the checks for the RB25 :D

The EPA dont give a rats a$$ what motor is in the car, only that it has the pollution gear associated with the motor that is in there when you go for the test etc etc

End of the day, if its registered with an RB25, then the police cant do anything relating to that if the motor is in standard spec.

I'm not surprised the OP is confused after this sort of statement, particularly when I thought we'd already sorted this. Anyway, it's very simple:

The OP has an Oz spec R31 now fitted with an RB25DET. The fact that engine was not offered by Nissan as an option for that model means that, by law, he requires an engineers certificate (ie VASS) to show that the conversion meets VicRoads engineering requirements, plus Vicroads might also want to inspect the car. Also:

- the fact that he was able to change the engine number just means that the drone at Vicroads simply didn't know what he/she was looking at;

- ditto for any cop that doesn't pick it up - which is probably just dumb luck.

- ditto for a RWC inspection.

All the requirements are shown on the Vicroads website. Without the engineers certificate the car is illegal and all his insurance is invalid.

He said it was registered with an RB25

That means

1) It says RB25DET on the rego sticker

2) It has RB25DET on the VicRoads records.

If its got to that point, it doesnt matter what did/did not happen in the past at the time of motor alteration.

When you go in to change that the VicRoads officer shouldnt let it pass without the correct documentation.

If VicRoads due to thier own poor ability to monitor staff have changed the record, then you've had a win.

Same for canaries that just "disappear" off the system sometimes :D

that reminds me, i need a new sticker, and yes the car is registerd with the rb25det..

AFAIK i didnt no much back then, so got a rwc with the car ect... and went to vicroads like you normaly would, and that was it

    • A 1.5 way is a 2 way. It is just a 2 way with a less aggressive ramp on overrun.
    • The ABS and/or TCS being missing/broken will not cause the engine to misbehave. It just casues CEL to come on and annoy you. The CEL is useless if it is always on, so you have to do the things you have to do to get rid of it, so it can be useful. Being a Stag ECU, then yes, it will not expect TCS to be present. But it will expect ABS to be present and working. You will need to either make the ABS CU talk to the ECU (don't ask me what that will take on an NA R34), and make sure the hardware is working....or, you just need to blank it out in Nistune. Do not persist with the stock ECU. You will just have problems. Gte it Nistuned. Start from there. DO YOU HAVE A BOOST SENSOR? The ECU's boost sensor that it. It is connected to the loom at the rear of the coil cover. Usually rides on the firewall on an R34, but is usually bolted down to a bracket along with all the other crap at the back of the coil cover when a Neo is dropped into another car. If you do not have it, the ECU will shit the bed. So, do you have one?
    • So sadly the fuel pump etc was not it. The pump and filter is new and it is still cutting around 4000 rpm. A read something about ABS/TCS (engine is from stagea and ECU too so no TCS) and i dont know for 100% that my car has ABS. It has ABS "cube" in engine bay but i dont think it works(or at least from my braking experience). Can be something like that?  I will be driving the car next week to Nistune tuner to properly see what is wrong...
    • the Tomei LSD fluid with lsd kit. frustrated that it was shaking the car to crap and affecting everything else negatively, I pulled the diff last night, and removed the lsd carrier, could not find anything wrong, however it seem to be 100 locked up acceleration, and deacceleration, wondering if they sent me a 2 way not a 1.5??  either way I installed the stock open carrier back in place. test drove everything smooth as butter again. no shake, shutter, random, what felt like clutch slip and grab or drive shaft play, etc. something differently wrong in side the lsd. I might bother taking it apart (if possible) to figure out what's going on inside this carrier, as bought too long ago to return.  only draw back is its back to a one wheel wonder.
