NSW police, RTA and EPA owned me last night

As I was Cruising down the hume highway at 10pm last night a parked highway patrol car saw me coming and started to roll before I had even past him. He then pulled me straight over out of ten other cars, gave me a written order saying I had to follow him to the defect station at the milperra rd and henry lawson drive Burger King.

I spent the next hour getting pumped:

First the RTA, they got me for leaking rear shock which is fair enough, also they got me for emission control pipes disconected. Then I was passed onto the EPA who pegged me at 10 decibels over the legal limit. Also got done for having a filter. Then I was issued with an emissions test to be done at the EPA soon due to "your car has an aftermarket intercooler which gives a denser air charge whereby ****ing the a/f ratio out." he then went on to say "further more, I am a bell end" and "I like it up the batty" ok he didnt but he was a bell end.

So......

$200 fine for airfilter

$250 for exhaust being too loud

$99 for minor oil leak.

$549 and i haven't even started to clear them or fix the probs. I am in shock having never been defected before.

If i EVER get done for anything like a BOV, filter, cooler, minor leak... then...

Watch the papers, cos im going to take on the big boys 110% and make alot of noise along the way...

Was talking to a lawyer friend who lives down the street a while back who has a GTR, he said if he ever gets pulled over it will take him one court appearance to get off... As there are so many flaws in the law and its application to modified vehicles.

Even if the emissions is raised, if it could be proven that it is no higher than any other vehicle on the road, then it should be legal. I cant wait for someone to take on this crap, because its getting out of hand.

you're wrong about the nothing in writing thing.

there is nothing in the ADRs to state pod filters are illegal.

there is however, a very clearly worded law stating that unboxed filters, atmosphere venting blow off valve etc attract a 200 dollar fine.

Sweyn, that sucks dude, were you going sunday runs or somethin? dfamn i went out to marconi last night, but lucky i didnt drive my car or maybe they wouldhave found me. :D

tis fookin BS dude..

i just dont see how harley's zaust are legal ??? and our mere 10db over isnt...... now that is a fookin joke....

for your filter can u just get an aluminium/carbon fibre box made up to enclose it then it should be fine.....

BOV is fair enuf... u get done for it its your fault...

cooler... just get it engineered... aswell as anything else u can

still i feel your pain...

defects sux...

This is deffinetly getting out of hand. Friday night I got pulled over at a RBT Unit at the entrance to my Estate. Lucky I had a car pull infront of me (:D) otherwise i'd normally be doing 90 in a 50 zone.

Anyway they pulled both of us over and proceeded to RBT the guy infront as i waited behind. When they started on me the officer looked over my license for ageeees and then 3mins later i was outta there.

Gave it alittle squirt as I left them and noticed them both looking back at me.

I think I -REALLY- need to get this airbox fitted to my car at any cost this Wednesday when I get the rest of my exhaust done.

I was driving round that part last nite on my way out, windows down, system up, and hwy patrol did a pretty impressive u'ie (smoke and all) and flew right into my arse. Came to the lights (with the system down...off really :D) he put his window down, mine went up and he left me alone. Was pretty stunned to see him turn off as the lights went green, though I think they checked my plates to find i was a local.

On the way home, cantbury rd/newbridge, (same place as i pulled a chase from hwy patrol last time :D) had a nice worked soarer try to run me all the way...Displaying my self control (really just shit scared of getting chased again) i pulled back from running...only to then pass 2 hwy patrol and a paddywagon...

On the up side, i hooned round the city a fair bit :D

Sorry to hear it Sweyn!!

were u by yourself?

i was followed once by a copper for a few k's, and he pulled up beside me, and after checking out my car for ages let me go...i have a BOV, filter and not so loud (loud enough to attract attention) exhaust..

however, i think he didnt do anything cos i was with my gf, and he mightve thought i was just taking her home or going out somewhere and not like to the runs or to hoon around...

again, sorry to hear it mate.

Goz

sorry to hear that dude.

a few years ago i was cruising around town in my GTi swift and drove past a cop, he pulled me over, checked my licence and asked me if i knew where the rta was. i said no, so he took my licence, switched his lights on and gave me a escort out to the rta.

when i got out there, there was about a dozen other hotted up cars being defected (at 10pm on a thursday night)

after i waited for my turn, i was given a huge list of defects:

* too low

* wheels to big

* full roll cage

* racing harnesses

* turbo motor

* BOV + filter

* aftermarket computer

i ended up having to take the front half of the cage out, and i got the rest engineered the next day (hid the computer of course)

defects suck ass

i got done last night in the same spot

i read 97 dB at 5000rpm and 99db on back off ...

i also got done for BOV and pod filter

and i lost 2 points cause i didnt have my p plates on

total fines about $400

btw - i was in the maroon 180sx with fast n furious graphics if u saw me in the defect station :D

    • Per Mark Roberts of Sonictune: Mark Robert Author At this time, no. No ETA either 2016-17 models. You will be able to purchase and install a 2018.5+ TCU though   TCU purchasing and pricing info! As we near the release of TCU tuning, I am going to answer some questions I get asked often.   What do I need for TCU tuning? At this time, you will need a 2018.5+ TCU to be able to tune. If you have a 2016-to early 2018, you will need to replace your TCU with the newer version. One good way to know if your TCU is good is if you have auto upshift in manual mode in 1st gear around 6500 rpms. If your manual 1st gear goes to 7k rpm and will hit the rev limiter unless you shift, you have the older TCU.   Why do I need to buy another ecu license/phone flash if I already have it on my ECU tune? The TCU is its own computer module. It is completely separate from the ECU. Because of this, you will be required to purchase a TCU license and, if your tuner has it, the phone flash license required to tune it via phone/bluetooth.   Do I need TCU tuning? TCU tuning is NOT required. However, the faster your setup, the more it will assist in track and dragy time consistency.   If I’m ECU tuned by (tuner A) can I get my TCU tuned by (Tuner ? Yes, since it’s a different module and a completely separate flash, you can have two different tuners. However, it is highly recommend that you have both tuned by the same tuner. For me, my TCU tuning will directly complement my ECU tuning style and features and running my ECU and another TCU or vice versa MIGHT cause some issues. At this time and for the foreseeable future, I will only be tuning my current ECU tuned customers TCUs.     I have a SYVECS AWD controller. Do I still need it? Yes! The AWD controllers main job is to control your AWD system. However, with TCU tuning, you will no longer need the auto-shift function as that will be done through the TCU. The AWD controller will still be very beneficial for racers looking to maximize traction on the launch.     Shift schedule changes: holding gears longer at lower pedal input as well as max shift rpm changes. Please note, the new ECU race rom coming out will address 90% of the shitty drivability issues these cars have through custom maps from myself and Racebox—as well as others I am sure.   Increase shift speeds: as seen in the videos I’ve been posting, the TCU shifts much faster once tuned.   Increased shift pressures: as also seen in the videos, much firmer full throttle shifts.

    • The fancy pants red shock tower brace is finally incoming from MX5 Mania, getting it shipped from 'Merica has been a long and problematic process, and GWR, the 'Merican supplier will not ship directly to consumers outside of the US, Mania basically had to order a heap of them, the colour choice was silver, or red, and we all know anything red adds 5 killerwasps of dynotorques..... Whilst it does fit over a 2.5, and I've seen a few photos and videos of it being installed and fitting, google also says it might get real close to the FAB9 intake front runner, people in the US says it does fit with the FAB9 intake, except for one person who said it slightly touched.......so there is that.....LOL..... As it seems that I am the first in AU to have this combination of parts there's no local knowledge about fitment, so I'm just a willing guinea pig in this endeavour, I'll cross my fingers and toes and hope for the best In other news, I ordered stuff from China  on the same day I ordered the 23° silicone bend from Victoria, the stuff from China arrived a day ago, the 23° silicone bend is still travelling around Australia thanks to Australia Post, and "may" be here next week
    • Very good news...I contacted Racebox about it last night. My car is a 2016 so remains to be seen if it is compatible, requires a TCU swap, or is impossible.
    • What ECU are you running? This is probably the biggest question. If it's a PowerFC, I'd probably change the ECU and get something newer that will handle the injectors in a nicer way.
