Ive read a guide on removing the door trim, but how hard is it to remove the inserts, can they be unplugged/unscrew or is it a sealed peice ?

also if anyone has done it can they post a pic..

thanks DAZ

mate, i'm in the same situation, well i stripped the car for painting so the trims are off but i wanna do something to them, just not sure what, mines a r33 4 door, i want to build doors pods for speakers and stuff just not sure how to tackle it, pics would be great people

i pulle of the door trim and its one piece so the inserts cant be unclipped...does anyone know if the inserts maybe double sided taped on, coz i dont wanna rip tehm off and find i cant get them back on and damage the door trim

well since the initial first post i brought both the driver and passenger door trims. Now teh inserts are moulded part of the door, os you cannot unclipi them like most cars, so ive got a few ideas on how to do it ..so once i work it out ill post up a DIY

i had this problem with my last car. Thought for ages about the best way to do it and came up with the idea of

thin mdf sheet (<5mm) cut to the shape of the door trim insert but maybe 3mm or so bigger all round. Put some bolts in so they fit pretty much flush with the mdf (and use glue/bog or something to hold them in place)

To this add a thin foam underlay, then stretch and staple/contact glue vinyl around it.

Then drill a few holes in the existing door trim, for the threads of the bolts to go thru, and screw the nuts on from behind the trim.

Would have looked ok if i'd spent more time on it, ended up just using a sheet of vinyl to cover the whole door trim cos that way the standard trim was totally intact underneath and i could go back at any stage if it looked ghey..

I know the topic is old, but I'm trying to change door trim inserts in R32. Same as in R33 door trim inserts cant be removed from trim as they are just part of it. So I peeled of the old ones, got some vinyl and spray adhesive from spotlight and cut out the new ones. But sticking them onto the door trim is a real bitch. It doesnt perfectly allign around edges and it started peeling of withing days. After spray adhesive I tried sticking them with uhu all-purpose glue, same shit. For some reason not even super-glue wont hold it on the edges.

Its really crap that door trims inserts cant just be removed like in any other car... there must be another way because I think myself and several other people have proven that sticking a piece of fabric over the door trim doesnt work. There is no way.

I'm thinking about taking a small electric saw and cutting out the door trim insert and then get it retrimmed properly. But i dont think that would be such a good idea...

Anyone managed to get door trims right here and would like to share it with us?

Ha i peeled my factory ones off then thought gosh darn how am i going to get this back on properly. Went to spotlight... bought some velvet looking material... traced it out exactly the same as the old one... used some "Septone Spray Adhesive" from supercheap and masked up all the edges... sprayed the trim and the material i was going to place on there... left it for 5 mins as the directions on the can say... then placed it on and used a bread and butter knife to carefully push it down the edges and then left it to dry.

It has a LOT to do with what material you are using. I tried it with vinyl. Terrible... I didn't even bother letting it dry as i knew it was going to look like sh!t. Best to use something thin like a felt/velvet material that has some slight stretch in it... vinyl or thicker materials are always going to want to flatten out.

I considered cutting the trim out and glueing the new piece around it and then somehow attaching it back to the trim... fibreglassing perhaps... but more trouble than it's worth and the more cutting you do the more chance of *ucking it up you have.

Cheers.

g'day only just found this post but thought i'd share some pics (i hate topics with no pics  ).

I was like all of you and tried different ways but then decided to get it done professionally when i had my seats done at the same time. Also 'teamplasma' wanted to build door pods, well i guess you've done so by now but here's my fibreglass ones anyways.

It came back a treat and looks fantastic! Andrew from Striaght Line Motor Trimming will help you out: 3/6 Holloway Drive, Bayswater 9762 3773 www.straightline.com.au

    • The ABS and/or TCS being missing/broken will not cause the engine to misbehave. It just casues CEL to come on and annoy you. The CEL is useless if it is always on, so you have to do the things you have to do to get rid of it, so it can be useful. Being a Stag ECU, then yes, it will not expect TCS to be present. But it will expect ABS to be present and working. You will need to either make the ABS CU talk to the ECU (don't ask me what that will take on an NA R34), and make sure the hardware is working....or, you just need to blank it out in Nistune. Do not persist with the stock ECU. You will just have problems. Gte it Nistuned. Start from there. DO YOU HAVE A BOOST SENSOR? The ECU's boost sensor that it. It is connected to the loom at the rear of the coil cover. Usually rides on the firewall on an R34, but is usually bolted down to a bracket along with all the other crap at the back of the coil cover when a Neo is dropped into another car. If you do not have it, the ECU will shit the bed. So, do you have one?
    • So sadly the fuel pump etc was not it. The pump and filter is new and it is still cutting around 4000 rpm. A read something about ABS/TCS (engine is from stagea and ECU too so no TCS) and i dont know for 100% that my car has ABS. It has ABS "cube" in engine bay but i dont think it works(or at least from my braking experience). Can be something like that?  I will be driving the car next week to Nistune tuner to properly see what is wrong...
    • the Tomei LSD fluid with lsd kit. frustrated that it was shaking the car to crap and affecting everything else negatively, I pulled the diff last night, and removed the lsd carrier, could not find anything wrong, however it seem to be 100 locked up acceleration, and deacceleration, wondering if they sent me a 2 way not a 1.5??  either way I installed the stock open carrier back in place. test drove everything smooth as butter again. no shake, shutter, random, what felt like clutch slip and grab or drive shaft play, etc. something differently wrong in side the lsd. I might bother taking it apart (if possible) to figure out what's going on inside this carrier, as bought too long ago to return.  only draw back is its back to a one wheel wonder.
