Cheap Paint Matching? Where?

hey guys,

i went to place to get my paint matched so i could respray my front bar and the paint they matched costs $100 for 500ml!!!!

anyone know of a cheaper place to get the paint?

i have the code the matching machine gave the dude, forgot the company name of the machine, but the color code is cv321.

i need this paint but if possible i want to avoid paying $100 for half a liter.

please help!!

it doesn't look like an ordinary colour, has it got flakes/pearl throughit?

also, how many litres would I take to respray your front bar? Did they tell you that?

500ml will definetly be enuff to give the front bar a few coats.

the reasons it so expensive is cause its got differant pearl colors and all that crap in it.

as long as its a perfect match, i dont care!!

Hey steve, you def gotta get it mixed by a specialist because of the pearls. Im guessing you went to the car paint centre? vic park or balcatta. Those guys are good, i sell automotive paint but its premixed into spray cans and imported from germany...plus getting it matched by specialist means it will be matched to date because paint fades.

Also be aware with metallic/pearled paint it's alot harder to apply than a flat colour!

her32- yeah its the ballcatta store. i guess ill defenetly get them to mix it for me, i just freaked out a bit cause i was expecting it to be around $50 or so.

anyways, ive painted using normal 2 pac before, but never mettalic so itll be a steep learning curve! i hear you gotta give it a couple of clear coats??

I'm not too experienced with air pressure guns so i can't offer too much advice...

I don't think you'll have much drama because its only the front bar, it usually needs to be mixed quite often to keep the flakes from settling on the bottom of the bottle.

Metallics/pearl have a tendancy to "bounce" back. Ive heard its best to apply the paint on an angle (keep gun upright, but spray a little bit sideways if you get what i mean) and this should reduce the bounce.

Also you should avoid doing little bits and going back and forth. It's better to do one full stroke and cover from end to end.

The old boy at the car paint place in vic park is pretty helpful, prob just ring him if you wanted.

chameleon paints in ossy park, matched my colour for $40 same paint code etc etc 500ml red pearl colour. in spray can

cool, can you do 3 ro 4 coats or will it look weird?

Not sure, depends on what type of paint it is. Best to check with the duded who mixed it for you

With cans of enamel it's 1-2 coats and acrylic is like 2-20 or 40 if you wanted.

hoppefully if i get the bog sanded and smoothed down today, ill be able to spray the 2 pac undercoat on toomorrow!!

well i fiberglasses, bogged, sanded, resanded and undercoated the front bar. but ive decided on taking it down to the dude who sprayed my bay. he'll do a pro job and bake it too! hopefully he'll wont charge too much.

ill post up pics of what i done a bit later on.

here are some pics, spewing i didnt take any before pics of the cracks n shit.

it looks like i done a good job with the sanding. the section where the most damage was done looks almost mint. not bad for a first try.

thats 2pac undercoat at the moment. hopefully next week ill get the color sprayed on.

Personaly I didnt have much luck with finding anyone who would do a good job at a good price ( house of colour might be worth a look )
