^ yeah thats fair enough, they're just trying to get people to watch it.

Unless Choice Magazine does tests then ill ignore the media versions of it... but really what does it matter, we dont miss the .5 of a litre if we dont know we're not getting it.

If that makes sense.

Yeah it makes sense, but arent you just the slightest bit annoyed that they are taxing extra for their own profits when it's completely unjustified?

Think about the amount of extra $$$ they would get from having a 0.05 error in their favour! On a servo that does $50000 in fuel a day, thats $2500 extra free profit for them.

no normal person is going to miss the 25c, but I don't want to see dodgey servo operators get a free lunch by ripping people off! :P

Just like to clear up an issue..

All fuel pumps suck from the bottom of the tank, so letting it go low is not going to suck anything else from the bottom.

BUT....

Letting the fuel go low may cause fuel surges/starvation when cornering and driving hard. Which in turn, may damage you engine.

ALSO...

You run the risk of burning out your pump, as the fuel acts as a coolant. When the fuel is low the pump is exposed and will be running at a higher temp.

Just my input.

I love the misconception that if you let the tanl run low you pick up all the dirt etc in the fuel tank. I think its quite funny. If the dirt can get in there with the fuel means in most float, so why would it settle at the bottom when a car is moving?? Second thing how can a fuel pump get fuel from the top if its only half full?? It has to draw fuel from the lowest point to get any.....again I laugh, why do we have fuel filters???

What you dont know cant hurt you right?

For all i know, my local pump could be working in my favor... I'll never know, so i dont see it as a big issue.

OK OK, start a new thread for that! This is about fuel consumption =D Yes the topic of how much fuel you are getting is part of it to a degree but is not the topic at hand.

^_^

Fuel consumption threads have been done to death, if you searched you would have found them.

This is the only thread where we've taken incorrect pump readings into account... so really, it is very relevant. If you think you have put 50 litres of fuel in the tank when you have only put 48 in, your calculations will be off when working out your fuel consumption.

Something to think about yes?

Well if you don't like our done to death thread to unsubscribe ^.^

"At what point does the fuel light come on? That is, how many litres remain when the light comes on?

In addition, what is supposed to be the standard fuel consumption for an RB25DET? I seem to getting pretty crap economy. $40 = around 31L of Optimax = ~220K's (or is it $45 = 34L = 220K's, can't remember) of City driving, occasional boost, before the fuel light comes on. I also have a really strong smell of fuel when I start it up, checked the boot, no smell or visible leaks in there.

Ideas and answers to questions???

Cheers"

That's the original post, are we all agreed that he fuel light comes on at ~10L

What is the claimed consumption for the RB25DET?

Is the average 12-14L depending on tune and running condition?

Also, the fuel smell issue, I have noticed fuel vapour coming from the fuel cap area when reversing and think this must be the main cause of the smell, has anyone replaced the seal around the filler?

Dezz, you may remeber that I replaced mine when I first got the car as I had a hot start problem (CAS) and very rough idle and very rich mixture. So it's a brand spanker, like 2mths old =)

BTW, wtf is with your new avatar.... don't think I didn't notice ;)

Oh and stay tuned for new pics with my Imupls tonight, providing they fit.

I dont have time for MSN, as it is majority of my forum posts are done during work time 0_o

I'll post some up if they fit tonight. Worried they might not make it on the back but have read other people have fitted 18's with 265's on the rear without any mods so we'll see.

Nah the dancing bear makes me laugh but the panties chick was better...Just need a Jessica alba one...

By the way, did you make that S2 R33 owner banner or grab it from somewhere? and that pixel car too, I wouldn't mind doing one.

Back to fuel.... how's your consumption been so far?

    • Ah! I actually managed to snag a lightly used set.... that aren't so suitable for me right now. They don't work on a GTT without some cutting or creative heat moulding. I thought about reselling them myself cause I didn't want to murder them, but it looks like I'm probably going to attempt to murder them/melt them because I may as well. @GTSBoy @PranK can somebody close this thread?
    • Hey mate,  I have a set, one is slightly damaged but wont be noticable once installed.  Shoot me a message if your still after them
    • I couldn't wait But, the black constant tension hose clamps were too thick and there wasn't enough clearance at the T/B and I couldn't get it to seat properly, so I had use a silver one there I also added some 3" silicone over the alloy bit that goes through to hole on the radiator support as it looked like it was sitting on the edge of the hole in the radiator support, I never noticed a rattle or anything, but there was a witness mark It is basicly done, and I can live with the silver hose clamp at the T/B, I will get a black clamp for the head vent though where it is attached to the bulkhead fitting  It never stops...LOL, only issue now with the shock tower brace is it slightly touches the under bonnet liner now, if I leave it it will either wear some paint off the brace where it touches, or damage the liner, so I removed the liner to see what I have to work with, with the liner removed I have about 20mm of clearance, but sadly the middle part of the underside of the bonnet is only dusted with paint and looks crap, so I cannot have that, but.... as I have a roll of Carbuilders premium under bonnet insulation in the garage laying around that is only 5.5mm thick (we were going to use it on the boys Patrol, but he crashed the front of it a few months and it was written off, hence why he now drives my old Honda Accord Euro), I'll use the OEM liner as a template and get the Carbuilders stuff fitted up to cover that dusted paint up
    • You have a knack for photography my friend. It makes the 86 look like a complete bucket. The 34 went with you to Europe and back. It's special. (we all feel the same about our 'shitboxes' that every bystander seems to absolutely love)
