I so need new CPU now, my 3200+ is definitely the bottleneck in my system.

You suck Nightcrawler, now I keep surfing for that right priced cpu.

I WILL NOT UPGRADE TO AM2, if it's just a cpu I can deal with it, but if I decide to do the board as well I KNOW it will get out of hand.

939's are EOL these days (hard to find), so u might have to think about am2 or conroe for an...upgrade

If u do stick with 939's then they should be damn cheap now...

Man i bought the first Sli equip motherboard in feb last year. Cost me 350 bucks for a socket 939 with Nforce4 chipset. And now the socket is obsolete already.

Be interested to see just how much quicker it is, Tom's cpu charts suggest substantially so!

I'll be jumping camp next upgrade and will be going a Core 2 Duo.

I'll grab a lower end cpu that runs a suitable multiplier, I have no issues with overclocking, been doing it since the old 486sx25's, never had anything break. This old AMD XP2100+ is still going strong at 3200+ for ~4.5yrs I think its been now.

But.. it really depends on the time. If I can justify spending another few hundred to simply grab the higher end cpu.

i would dissagree hes going from a 3200+ to a 4600+ dual core will be a significant jump in performance

but if the mhz is simular on the single core to the dual core then yes its when it multitasks that you will be streets ahead

im in the market for a new (used) comp. mine died unexpectedly when i came home yesterday and my bro goes your comp just died - he was playing wow . anywho, looking for a 3ghz comp doesnt need to be fancy. can anyone help, on a buget btw.

dang u had to say on a budget im selling my pc and its got all the bells and whistles its arround the 2.7g ONO for all parts brand new and calculated was 4.3g

yes id agree also. I came from a p3 to my x2 now and it was a huge jump. But the real enjoyment comes from doing 2 things fast as and at the same time. Ie video encode + play a game....

hey Duc, I have a few nice pcs for sale at the moment ... in fact I might post a for sale thread - as I really need to get rid of some of this stuff .... I have just upgraded, and have my old 2500+ rig for sale .... has 512Mb DDR ram, 80Gb HDD, Aluminium PC60 copy case, etc etc .... $500 ..... or I have other systems cheaper

General windows usage one won't notice a jump in performance if you simply swap out the motherboard and drop in a 4600+.

As Bl4ck32 said its the dual core/multitasking where you notice it flicks between apps and allows you to do multiple things at once without bringing the computer to its knee's. Simply increasing cpu speed won't stop the computer dropping to its knees should you encode and do a couple things at once.

Which is what I 'think' bl4ck32 was getting at.

I've setup a few dual core systems now (all have been intel but) and I must say they are damn nice, the system doesn't feel faster than mine it just does things smoother and never really chugs.

For a bargain dual core windows system the 805 Pentium D is a bargain and a half, it is a screamer of an overclocker and only costs $150 odd. Slap 1gb worth of ocz or corsair value type ram in it and you have yourself a fairly reasonable windows system for only a few hundred.

as for those 805 i recon my 650 would encode and read emails better than it

dont try and tell me youll encode a video and play BF2 cause your video will still turn out choppy on dual core (my thougths only havnt done experiments)

The 805's aren't all that bad.

Encode while reading emails and burning a dvd... The dual core does do better than the single core. The system is much more fluid, yes the 650 'may' get the job done a tad quicker but the system responsiveness won't as nice as the dual core.

Thats my experience anyway. Never tried encoding while playing a game... Burnt a dvd in nero while BF2ing yes.

Also... My little old ATI 9700pro in a 805D system pics up 2000 3dmarks2001se. lol, didn't bother with newer 3dmarks, card can't handle it.

The old P4 3.4ghz's are ok and roughly on par with the old AMD XP3200+ so not really that grunty. BUT Intel have turned things around with their new Core Duo 2
