Rolls what happens when ur gfx card crashes do the drivers reset it or its a blue screen vid dumpo and reboots

should of waited till the R600 comes out

The screen went garbled but the game kept playing for about 10 seconds, then it hung with the audio looping. I reset and the text was random colours and all garbled in the bios, windows logo was all messed up. Computer still ran but colours etc were all wrong and had lines through everything. Put in another card and it was fine. Its most likely the ram on the board. I sent it off today express with insurance. Managed to get a Radeon x550 256mb card from work to pass the time until it gets RMAd.

The R600 isn't due out for a while and I wanted to get some gaming in before Uni gets back hence the choice. 8800 wasn't an option as the x1950xt cost $365 and the cheapest 8800 is still $600+

quite simply ATI sucks and the only people that buy ATI is:

Pauly thats a heap of biased crap, ATI have made competetant cards for a long time, Ive used many ATI and NVIDIA cards in my time and they have all been fantastic. Anyway name a card as good as or better then the X1950XT for the same price. None.

I have chopped, screwed and played around with ALOT of ATI and Nvidias. Nvidia wins. Like how Intel wins over AMD. I'm not going to say anymore, I am not biased, its my point of view. Why would I make my P.O.V without having tested and used these cards in the past.

Cmon man 'Intel wins' Sure they have the superior chip out at the moment, but there's been plenty of times when AMD have had the lead. It might be your opinion but that certianly doesn't make it correct.

What about when ATI brought out the 9700? NVIDIA had nothing to compete with it. You are a one eyed fanboy, you don't even use a single example to justify your views. How can you expect anyone to take you seriously?

Whoever has the latest tech is always in the lead. Its constantly switching between them, it certainly doesn't make them the better name though. Remember when Intel was getting reamed by AMD with their lower clock speed superior chips? Loads of examples. Anyway you never answered my question, find a card as good as or better then the X1950XT for the same price, the answer is you can't.

Hi Guys

I dont post in this thread often but wanted some advice

I recently purchased a new budget (under $800) PC - (AMD 3500+ Athon with 1Gig Ram and a GE Force 7300 GS Video card, duel layer DVD etc.)

I want to use it to surf the net, play a FEW games (hence the lower spec graphics card) but also to download and burn DVD's (I have unlimited broadband of course)

My questions are:

1: I am using Bitlord 1.1 (free version) - is it worth the price to upgrade to the full version in terms of inproved speed?

2: Some of the movies I have downloaded are in various formats AVI, VCD etc, what programs do you use to convert them so they can be copied onto DVD (when I looked all the free ones are limited - first 5 minutes only, work only once etc)

Any other advice on downloads from the net would be apreciated, I am keen to get many of the older Sci Fi TV series and a few series that havn't hit Australia yet.

uTorrent.

I use VSO's Convert X to DVD.

There's many programs available that are able to convert various video files in to dvd with a few simple clicks.

It works extremely well and is very easy to use.

My other half is the primary user as she dloads kids stuff for the boy. Its a simple drag drop, insert dvd and click to have a avi etc burnt on to a dvd.

It works all the time every time without the requirement for *external codecs*.

Nero Recode also works well but the other half had a few issues getting her head around it for one reason or another.

For the best possible compatibility (older picky DVD readers) I've found you can't go wrong (and haven't yet) with a good brand (Verbatim) DVD+R disk and a DVD Burner that supports DVDROM bitsetting. I use Verbatim 16x DVD+R disks.

DVD-R disks can have issues with the older DVD readers. The -R discs are inferior to the +R discs in 'theory'.

If you have time, read the whitepapers I'm sure you will agree. :)

x3 utorrent.

Its damn fast, and has a search engine in it.

For going avi to watch on dvd i use cucusoft...pm me if you want to know how to use the full version...

Its a simple program u add the avi u want to burn, select dvd, vcd etc...then u just click convert and it'll convert and then burn it all in 1 hit...

Paul, The price of the two media types have recently pulled in line with each other.

The verbatim 16x discs (which are one of the very best quality disks you can buy) are both ~$39 for a spindle of 50 from Jaycar.

Another excellent quality disc is Taiyo Yuden. They are ~$140 for a spindle of 100. argg.. But they are the very best you can buy. But I don't. :D

I used to use cheap $25-$30 disks (have lots of princo and generic grade A's) and have found after 3years or so the dye on the bottom of the disc has started to change colour and develop little pin dots; most of them still work but some disks are now unreadable. :)

Needless to say those that are still fine I've transfered on to Verbatim +R discs.

We lost a heap of family photo's. :( Damn Princo.

Guy, for those important family video/photo's its really important to use top quality DVD+R discs. Anything else cheapo -R's will do if you don't have intentions of being able to access them in years to come.

O'No!! I've been using Princo's for a while now. Haven't got any that old but, I might have to start using better discs if this may happen to my data.

One of my worst thoughts is data loss. Never get data back once it's gone :)

I'm going to check some of my old holiday photo's now, see if there still readable :D

TY is overrated IMO. A year ago I bought 2 batches of the 4x DVD-Rs from JPL and they all had minor dye defects in them ie spotting. Sure enough where the spots occured correlated with PIE spikes. Overhyped to the max.

They were 100% origional TY's?

Not the rip offs/imitations that were and floating around and stung many?

Absolutely. Bought off JPL Displays.

Whats also funny is that the surface had slight micro 'pitting' in places - usually as a result of the DVD stack being dropped and they sort of squash together.

Ah well I am happy with my Verbatims. I get the 8x DVD packs for $27. Can't beat that!

hey, if you have a spare 56mb and wanna see a first-time BF2 video I made, have a look ^^.

quality of footage is bad (compressed it twice) but next vid I make will be awesome. music is pretty cool tho, made it for my war vet Gpa who passed on the weekend (made it thurs-sun when he was dying).

    • Hi all. Been a while but things are moving along. I just have something that I am wondering about. Since I will use OEM turbo oil pumbing, I got myself a new bolt, the one that goes into the engine block oil feed. As I recall (and see visually) this bolt comes restricted with I think a 1.7mm hole? Not quite sure but it was something around that size. The turbos have 1mm restrictor bolts installed, as necessary due to ball bearings and my higher oil pressures. Can I now just use that OEM bolt with the 1.7mm hole in for the engine block or will this actually be too much oil flow restriction and I have to drill it out first? In my head it would make sense for the bolt to be at least 2mm wide as both turbos take "1mm of oil flow". Do let me know if my logic is flawed here, I just want to make sure I don't kill my turbo bearings with too little oil. Don't know if I can trust the saying I read somewhere that ball bearing turbos essentially only need an oil mist
    • There are several aftermarket options available, from not-too-painful moneyhttps://justjap.com/collections/driveshafts-bearings/products/d-max-reinforced-replacement-rear-driveshaft-set-fits-nissan-s13-s14-s15-r32-r33-r34-c35 and  https://justjap.com/products/crank-motorsport-billet-rear-axles-fits-nissan-skyline-r33-gts-t-r34-gt-t?srsltid=AfmBOorQk4xkGUa98kO7v2ePLUiNt-HRrM2AwWNw9mbSIVE1ujBVwY__, all the way up to The Driveshaft Shop https://driveshaftshop.com/skyline-cv-axles/
    • Yeah based on old XRC5964S specs, it looks to be roughly GTX3576R sized? But this 5964S compressor will flow 90lb airflow somewhat similar to the compressors in both the GTX3584RS or G35-1050.. I fully expected the 0.64 rear A/R to choke up top - seems way too small from typical convention - but these are seemingly beneficial over the prior 0.82 results.. Be interesting to see if he comments on the EFR question in that thread - he mentioned in a prior video that BW EFR's were the "cats pajamas 10 years ago", but by the sounds of things all his kits have been using Xona for quite a while now.
    • Yeah it’s still got the oem manual gearbox and clutch, only kinda mods are a blow off valve, coil overs, and a aftermarket intercooler. Also had it for about 2 months now with a lovely midnight purple paint on it.
    • Yeeeppp, been following a lot of the testing on the latest Xona stuff and there are some mental results.  He also went over 1000hp @ 4 hubs on his Mainline with a XRE6364S (63mm) which was also well into the 20psi range before 4000rpm on a 2.5. Crazy stuff. Fwiw the XRE5964S is basically the modern equivalent of their old HTA3582 - would drive nicely enough on an RB25 or 26, but proven capable of a huge amount of power if you want to spicy with rpm tho even at sane boost levels will make stout numbers
