What ADSL router does everyone use?

I'm looking at getting a Billion 7404VGPX router, but have heard the N wireless standard is coming big... although, it's only JUST a standard at the moment, it might need more perfecting before it's released mainstream? I'm always a bit wary of buying bleeding-edge hardware.

I just need something that can handle ADSL1, Wireless, 4 port switch, 3G capable, VPN capable... and that's about it.

3G ? Huh?

I use a Linksys WRT54GS with hacked firmware (I installed 5mb version of linux on the 8mb flash and use the extra 3 megs to serve basic webpages)

Has been rock solid for 4 years, the new linksys N combo would probably be a good one.

Some of the integrated linksys adsl 2 modems from a year or two ago would die randomly due to poor quality soldering - theyve addressed the build issues nowadays (which is why they changed the housing of the unit so it doesnt look the same as the old ones).

There's the specs.

It has 3G support, apparently.

Edit: That's the 7404VGOX model, but roughly the same.

Right thats a combo modem. Does ADSL and HSDPA input (so u can use wireless broadband on it instead of ADSL)

Bit of a waste tho if you're going to stick with ADSL. When I move I'll be installing a PCI Adsl2+ modem in my linux gateway and running that off a UPS rather than having an alcatel modem plugged into the WRT54GS (its a wireless router alone, not a wireless adsl router - never been a fan of combo devices)

i have a DLink wifi router and it is rock solid easy to setup has plenty of security features this came out that same time trial N came out

I'm into hacking routers and doing funky stuff with them. I generally use DD-WRT

Its very feature rich and lets you amplify the transmit signal strength. I've had my linksys transmitting 250mw (up from the standard of 28mw) but now I keep it at the 100mw mark. The cpu (broadcom embedded) is also overclocked from stock 200mhz to 224 and is rock solid without any cooling. The router runs a copy of apache which I use to serve files and also a webpage with my shoutcast server on it (router has 32 megs of ram, more than enough)

Next router I get will be an N but it'll definately be one compatible with DD-WRT... great package that...

EDIT - Just did some looking around. The Linksys WRT350N looks to be like one hell of a nice router. 300mhz, 8 meg of flash, 32 megs ram, gigabit ethernet, hardware crypto for SSL and IPSEC, WPA2, N specification, USB 2.0 port for a HDD caddy or flash drive... you could have a lot of fun with it (or if you're bored, overclock it and run seti@home :starwars:

EDIT2 - or just put a USB hdd on it and run a lightweight linux bittorrent client... ooh la-la

EDIT3 - This is the one I have http://www.pccasegear.com/index.php?main_p...roducts_id=7263 except when I bought mine it was called the GS (linksys are really bad about changing product specs while keeping the same product name - so version numbers are important)... its a good solid unit. The broadcom chips are what u want, the vxworks wrt54's are all shite. And strike the first edit. The WRT610N is the shit - its not DD-WRT compatible YET but the hardware features are very nice, same as above but dual band (with 5ghz transmitter) and 64 megs of ram... you can run a mini-squid cache using the extra 32 gigs and save yourself a bit of bandwidth

bit over my head i hacked my phone and now its even more locked to three stupid 3 strikes your out now i have to try and flash it back to factory spec to see if that resets it or take it to nokia service center

yeah im loving it Carl i also just found in Enterprise and Ultimate they will be offering VM for XP

see more |>>Here<<|

nice! hope they bring one out for s2k3 so i can use that for testing instead of having 2 pc's running with no KVM (my desk is the definition of clutter).

its pretty good that alot of the features on win 7 seem to be derived from applications and modifications that ppl have installed made to XP and vista. Its refreshing to have a product that is the result of a company listening to consumers, rather than dictating to them

nah it wasnt

i have bought a pair of blown stock gtr turbos and im paying a dude to recondition the entire thing and use steel turbines and build it to "better than" N1 spec.

means i get better turbos that are semi regency friendly (they check housing numbers, they dont take turbos off and check turbines ;P)

and the upgrade = computer upgrade. ;P

    • Hope you aren't too sore after that one, might take a day or 2 to notice yet and I guess it is a loooooong drive home. On the bright side, tube frame front end is a thing at superlap, right?

    • The chart of front pressure to rear pressure (with one being on the x axis and the other being on the y axis) is not a straight line on a typical proportioning valve. At lower pressures there is a straight line with one slope, and at higher pressures that changes to a lower slope. That creates a bend in the line at that pressure, called the knee point. If you do not change the proportionng as the pressure gets higher, you will suffer excessive pressure (at one end of the car or the other, depending on which way you look at the proportioning action) and then get lockups at that end. The HFM BM57, from my memory of previous discussions, is based on the BM57 from a different car (to a Skyline), with a different requirement for the location of the knee point and the distribution of pressure front to rear, and so is not a good choice for an upgrade on a Skyline. Here's a couple of links to some old posts, one from here, one from elsewhere. A lot of it pertains to adjustable prop valves, but the idea is the same. There are plenty of discussions on here about this issue from al the many years of people wanting a cheap/accessible option. https://grassrootsmotorsports.com/forum/grm/learn-me-brake-proportioning-valves/236880/page1/ https://grassrootsmotorsports.com/forum/grm/learn-me-brake-proportioning-valves/236880/page1/
    • Yeah dunno why johhny posted that here with no context, just post on FB/insta bro where he put it up?  Laine had an off at T4 during Thurs prac, he's ok, car is less than perfect, they are done for the weekend, he can fill in the rest. Bando also binned it like 100m up the road.
