We also need a design maybe people could come up with some and we could have a vote or something to decide.

I think something simple kinda like the ones found in the S15. mostly plastic with a metal insert with "Silvia" written on it.

Looks horn.

If anyone has the exact font that the SKYLINE word is written in, I'd appreciate it if someone could send that to my email

Kickplate coming off my car for measurements tonight then the design will be sent off for fabrication. Etching process will be the last thing done, I just want to see what the overall effect will be like first.

Just so you know, we can put any design onto these plates... the majority will be SKYLINE but we can cater for anything custom providing you give us the design. Plates will be done in Titanium with a Silver/Gold plate (again by preference).

Titanium was decided upon as it is very workable and very very durable which is exactly what you want for something that will see a lot of rough work (shoes, dirt, knocks).

Approximate Costing:

SKYLINE panels will be mass made and will be the base price.

CUSTOM panels will be made to order and will obviously cost more.

Silver Plating will be the base model.

Gold Plating will be a premium option.

I had a sample sent over that was made in Titanium with a Gold Plating + etching; this was a once-off prototype and cost $150AUD. Obviously the final product won't cost anything like that - this was just a sample and a prototype :dry:

OK little update yet again;

The CAD Drawing for the R34GTT kickplate has just been done up... for the R34 we've decided to do 3 seperate pieces;

LEFT >>> CENTRE (SKYLINE) <<< RIGHT

We've decided that a full replacement will NOT be the best option, as the costs to make the mould will be very high. If a direct replacement must be used, Injection Moulded Plastic must be used (costly).

Normal Fibreglass would not be good for this item as every time you take it off for service/installs you would run the risk of snapping the panel in half.

As such we are making the metal kickplate inserts that will be integrated into the existing panel. The adhesion process is still be sorted out (deciding between an adhesive or a bolt/rivet).

Update from the supplier - three colours will be available;

1) Titanium Finish (Silver - Chrome)

2) Titanium Gold Finish (Gold Plated)

3) Titanium Black Finish (Black - Glossy)

The third option I did not think would be chosen but I have had some members ask whether it could be done as they have sprayed the kickplate some other colour (e.g. white)

I am hoping to have the first prototype of my kickplates done within 2 weeks. Please be patient for this process to take place.

SOMEONE GET ME THAT SKYLINE FONT!!! ALL GOOGLE IMAGES SUCK!

Thanks mate... having the font will be much better than blowing up a logo in picture format. We'll be able to load each character into the etching machine instead of a flat image - means cleaner cut letters.

Also, if any of you are lawyers or professionals in intellectual property law - could you please advise on the legalities behind using the SKYLINE logo? I know for a fact that using the GTR logo is prohibited inside Japan.

I had a read in the law books at home and there is something along the lines of a disclaimer I could use? Something like this product is NOT genuine Nissan and is in no way endorsed or related?!? Someone please advise...

Thanks

S

heheh damm, should have bought my friends one..

it came with his car, and looked really nice (silver-chrome one with Skyline engraved)

Pretty sure, you can purchase these from japan local shops.. Or maybe it was a factory option??

OK designs sent off - didn't end up using that SKYLINE logo that n15m0 found us (sorry bro), so what did we do?

Stay up till 3am measuring every damn mm on the real kickplate and making our own SKYLINE logo on AutoCAD. Took forever, but the end result is spot on.

Nothing like a set of digital calipers and pen + paper!

It's looking good boys, now the wait for the prototype to be returned - update soon!

Thanks guys! Appreciating the support and feedback...

I like EMERGENCY EXIT :laugh:

Personally I will have a set of SATANICs made up~

I did ponder with one idea though, having a laser etched "carbon fibre" look will also be doable. As a laser is being used to etch the metal, all they have to do is "weave" multiple layers onto the one sheet using different laser intensities - EASY!

    • For these last 7 years of ownership, I've always had to use a small scissor jack under one of the front tow hooks to raise the front just enough so my low-profile jack fits under to reach my subframe jack point. I'm beginning to get annoyed of always having to do this. Are there any lower low-profile jacks that fit under the gtr lip on a dropped car?
    • Seat of the pants assessment of the new intake: The car is way less "doughy" when hitting the loud pedal, especially off idle when stopped or in traffic, I did use a cheapo lazer thermal thingo to measure the temp around where the pod filter got its air, it was between 55 - 60°C, in saying this the car was shut off and not moving, so the OEM intake pipe was not supplying any fresh air to where the pod was when the car was at least moving A weird bonus was induction noise on the throttle in the cabin increased a bit,  I was worried that I was actually going to lose some of that induction noise I love so much, outside though, when I got the daughter to do a WOT drive by pass for me, the induction noise has increased alot when on the throttle, not quite ITB doort, but well up there I'm extremely happy with the results and have been exploring the country roads in the region  As for house mods: 1.New front fence is up and is awesome, it really upgraded how the joint looks from the street, and the added security is nice 2. Electricians have replace some interior lights, and with more lighting in the garage, a few new motion detecting lights out the front above the garage, front room, and at the front door, which I have already found heaps helpful coming and going, also now has fancy pants CCTV all round the house The only hold point for power though is the solar and batteries due to supply issues, although this will happen over the next few weeks 3. I have done a heap of landscaping out the front and I'm almost ready to do a new small retaining wall with some nice blocks to replace the brick and cemented in rocks around the raised garden beds cemented in river stone "was the fashion at the time" the house was built. I currently have a pallet of retaining wall blocks and 2 bulka bags of 20mm blue metal to replace the wood chip that is in the raised garden beds around the house 4. I now have 3 big raised garden beds for out the back to grow some vegetables, about 70cm high, 200cm long and 100cm wide 5. My 2 compost bins are already pretty full with brown, green and kitchen waste from the landscaping I'vedone so far, but they will probably take a few months to break down, so anything else that gets chopped, trimmed, and kitchen waste will just start filling the base of the raised garden beds to about 30cm before I start throwing 40cm of good compost, and stuff, for the vegetables to grow in, I'll need a few ton of compost and soil, but the local supplier can sent me bulka bags of the stuff Basically the logs, wood chips and a few strategically placed rocks for drainage, will give the beds some good organic materials down low to break down over time, and they will hold moisture during the warmer months to save the water in my big arse water tank if we don't get alot of rain So, all in all, the car and house mods are going well, and I'm really enjoying being retired, I sleep in too 0700 and slowly plod around inside until I feel like actually doing anything, and only work in the yard for as long as want, which has actually been alot over the last few weeks,  although when you look at it, it seems that not a huge amount of work has been done,  until I look at the before I started the work pics Happy days and good times indeed
    • hahaha yeah. Plan is to get side skirts and probably just rear pods. But going to do them one-by-one. I've got a set that I really like from RHDJapen, but that one isn't shipped to AU. So need to find someone who can get it for me
    • Here's an idea, answer the questions I asked you as they are trying to work out WHY the LSD will be binding up in a straight line.
