Hey everyone.

Im having problems with my R32 GTR. Hopped in the car today to go shopping and tried to start it up but it wouldnt. It cranks over but it wont actually start up and idle. I thought it might have been my fuel pump so i turned the ignition off completely and turned the key to the 'on'position to prime it. The fuel pump was fine as i could hear the usual buzzing noise it makes. Tried to turn her on again but still wouldnt start up. Another thing i noticed was after trying to start the car the little symbol of the exhaust with heat coming off it lights up on the gauge cluster and starts flashing?! The onlly other problems ive had with this car is my aircon blew releasing all the gas and a slight hesitation in acceleration which only occurs sometimes, but im pretty sure thats got nothing to do with the car not being able to start up.

Up here in Darwin this past week its been raining for the past week or so ALL day so if that bit of info helps? electricals maybe? Please help!

Thanks People!

Cheers mate! i've bought a fuel filter today and i'll get around to it. if that wont work then i'll check if my coils are stuffed. the car TRIES to start but just wont. i definitely know it aint the starter motor or a flat battery.

just wondering. could i actually just disconnect the hose off the exit of the fuel filter and try start the car to see if fuel flows?
Slightly safer to disconnect the hose off the fuel pressure regulator. (easy to find, just follow the other hose up to the inlet plenum).

The "buzzing" could be the ATTESSA pump pressurising before startup.

that exhaust symbol doubles as the check engine light

whoa no way! havent blown motor! you tryin to make me cr#p my pants?! :turned: heheh. yeah i'll check the coils tomorrow. i got a friend here who knows a good mechanic who will help me out. i got no tools as im at uni :D i think you may be right about the spark as i'd sometimes be driving and then all of a sudden there would be a slight hesitation in acceleration, then the car would go back to normal, which left me puzzled. the little exhaust temp light flashes too but i read on a thread that its basically just a warning not to park in long grass areas. that wouldnt have anything to do with the car not being able to start. i think its just playin up. Just got the bloody car too, which makes it even more annoying. Hey would anyone happen to have a repair manual for the R32 GTR? every time i try to download it off a previous thread it never works.

Really? so it could be telling me that i got a problem with fuel, air, spark, etc? If so, how can i find out whats wrong to fix it?

    • Wife wanted basket things in the wardrobe in our temporary house. Thought about ripping our the wardrobe and fitting the entire IKEA set, but it's a temporary house and we want to move in a few years. So IKEA advertises this as a 50cm unit, however the actually basket and rails measure 46cm wide. Only issue was depth, IKEA stuff is quite deep, where as the builder special junk is super shallow at less than 40cm. Send it, chopped the rails, then offset the mounting holes, job done, happy wife, less shit scattered all over the bedroom. Did the same to the other side too. Also drove the Skyline shit box today, dropped off oil at Supercheap Auto. I didn't realise they only now take max 2x bottles per visit. I visited 2x Supercheap Autos.
    • I've seen similar actually in my situation. You never know what tables are attempted to be used when the car thinks it's -99C or +200C. The fail state is not usually that extreme but you know what I mean - it was in my case though! This is where being able to read all the sensors is useful cause you see this stuff really quickly.
    • The above is very important. However as long as you keep timing relatively low, it's plausible to make your own knock ears and plausible to learn to tune with a modern ECU that can do wideband O2 correction like a boost controller. I mean if you only have one viable road to even drive the car on, learning to tinker to this level may be worth doing given you can't do much else with the car...?
    • I find the fact that the rear plate has to be bent inwards at the rear not so bad: but the front is just awful: It's like come on. (these are my very old, now retired/turned in plates) TBH it is a lot of money to fix a minor issue, the fact I said "I'll never really spend the money on doing this" is why people ended up buying them as a gift for a 'car guy' who can be hard to shop for.. for car guy things.
    • I just bent the ends of my premo plates. It even went through Regency like that after the engine conversion and the inspector (a great bloke!) just squinted his eyes and said "I didn't see that". Plates, and how they look, are just something that have zero importance to me.
