Hey all just a quik question What should i be looking at for my next mod i've got:

Small pod filter Restricted due to space from modified intake pieping

3" Dump pipe into Stock cat into 3" catback exhaust system <~~ 2 mufflers

garret T04E turbo .60A/R compresser dunno exhaust but full boost by 5000RPM

HKS exhaust manifold low mount

HKS external wastegate

bleed type boost controller

Made 227HP@14PSI at wheels im looking for 300HP and some more mid range pull.

dyno graph in attachments.

so far ive thaught of changeing the intake to run a full size pod filter and getting a 3" high flow cat and removing 1 muffler to increase flow. ive since turnd down boost to 12 cause the guy from the dyno said it was leaning out a bit at top end no detonation YET afr's get too 14:1 at top end on 14psi (yaay go stock computer and fuel system!!) any other suggestions?

money has run dry atm but just wanna plan ahead save spending money on things i dont need.

Im not sure how ur standard ecu is running the car... but before you do ANYTHING go get an ECU and get it tuned! Even if its with standard injectors/afm/fuel system blah blah as slapping a big turbo on and raising boost without any form of tune is just asking to blow the motor!

yea woops i forgot im runnin a 600x300x76 hybrid FMIC and remacarbly the car is smoth to drive you just have to wait for the power. but yea i think after i get rid of the intake and exhaust restrictions ill get that computer it needs and a electronic boost controller cause as you can see on the dyno chart it really dosnt know what its doing with the fuel. thanks for the input guys!

yeh like wat everyone else said...

i cant believe you didnt at least upgrade your fuel pump and get an fmic...

i wouldnt even dream of putting a bigger turbo without those.

or maybe you just forgot to add it to your list of mods coz they are such obvious things to do :)

im stunned that its no pinging at 14:1 AFR up top end ..

usually can run 14:1 down low before boost kicks in, but then it should be 11.5 to 12:1 ..

first thing if ECU is out of the quetion, rising rate FPR 2:1 rating, to get the injectors flowing that little bit more.. just to get that AFR a bit better....

like $200 and will be alot safer than what your doing now.

woh i really didnt think that it was that bad but yea since the guy at the dyno told me i droped the boost to 12 psi and was talking to some people and they mentioned and apexi safc or something i think its just a chip but do you reckon that would at least fix up the fuel a bit combined with an upgraded fuel pressuer regulator and where do you think i should look to maby pick up a second hand one??

if you keep running it like that without a tune, you're gonna blow an engine.

your afr's are all over the place, you are running dangerously lean at the top end of the graph where it peaks at 14:1, i'm suprised you haven't done some serious damage... I guess this is what an afr graph looks like when you slap on a turbo kit, boost controller and just go for glory!

I would also argue your turbo is very laggy, the car musn't feel very drivable, you could consider changing turbo's, a tune will improve your low end response, so will cams but only to a certain extent.

as far as mods go (apart from a remap or aftermarket ecu - don't get an SAFC, stock remap is better if you wanna do it on the cheap)

i wouldn't worry about z32 afm or electronic boost controller, your tuner will be able to tell if it's spiking or your current afm is maxing out, and the manual boost controllers some dude is selling here (there is a big topic about it somewhere on the forum, search) are great.

- Fuel pump & injectors

- high flow cat + air filter

- cams

- head work (porting etc.)

- bottom end (pistons, rods etc.)

and also have a think about how long you're gonna keep the rb20det for, and if it might be worthwhile sticking an rb25det in it. Also consider "safety" mods such as oil cooler, aftermarket radiator

after reading this thread im freaking out now :) I have a r32gtst with a HKSGT2540 and apexi FMIC , i have no idea if the ECU has been remapped or is stock. I got the car from japan and have no info on this. It has a manual boot controller and it is set at 14psi , thats the way it came. I surpose i should get it on a dyno to know.

Undertoe, its always a good idea to get the car on the dyno for a power run at least every 6months to a year to check afr's IF its running a nice turbo.

Fuel pumps/injectors can and do get tired/clagged.

Back to the origional question.......

This would be the plan of action if it was mine...

1. Fuel pump

2. Cat converter sorted

3. Fuel pressure reg

4. Adj. cam gears to help spool

5. PowerFC (Possibly including the pfc boost control kit if the current setup has issues holding boost)

6. Tune it and wind the boost up until she doesn't make anymore power or if injectors are limited which should be with a bit of fuel pressure some where around 200-220.

Thanks mate , im going to get a whole new exhaust system , should i go 3.5 inch or is 3in fine with this size turbo. Also by sorting out the cat do you mean a highflow unit?

Thanks for the info guys yea where on the northside of brizzy would be a good place to get the ecu re-programed and what is the normal cost for this?

I have thought of doing the rb25 conversion and now that i look at it i probly shoulda done it instead of putting this turbo on but all aside whats done is done and now i dont have the money to do it so ill try fix what i started so do u think if I can get it retuned with a fuel pressuer reg. it would at least be safe and then ill start saveing for that ecu!

Once again thanks for the heads up and hopfully i havnt dammaged anything!

DR Drift (son of rajab of re-tuning stock ecu's) is making a trip up to Nerang in the very near future.. Check the QLD section.

Rising rate regulator and a big in tank pump... Plus the cat and inake and you should be set for some decent figures, with the re-tune of course.

If your smart you could have all this done for a little over $1000

how about a FMIC!!!!!

if you dont have one get one now.

Then go with Fuel pump, injectors and a ECU, and you will be laughing

Yep, good point. You'll start maxing your injectors and fuel pump soon. So get all that out of the way.

    • Seat of the pants assessment of the new intake: The car is way less "doughy" when hitting the loud pedal, especially off idle when stopped or in traffic, I did use a cheapo lazer thermal thingo to measure the temp around where the pod filter got its air, it was between 55 - 60°C, in saying this the car was shut off and not moving, so the OEM intake pipe was not supplying any fresh air to where the pod was when the car was at least moving A weird bonus was induction noise on the throttle in the cabin increased a bit,  I was worried that I was actually going to lose some of that induction noise I love so much, outside though, when I got the daughter to do a WOT drive by pass for me, the induction noise has increased alot when on the throttle, not quite ITB doort, but well up there I'm extremely happy with the results and have been exploring the country roads in the region  As for house mods: 1.New front fence is up and is awesome, it really upgraded how the joint looks from the street, and the added security is nice 2. Electricians have replace some interior lights, and with more lighting in the garage, a few new motion detecting lights out the front above the garage, front room, and at the front door, which I have already found heaps helpful coming and going, also now has fancy pants CCTV all round the house The only hold point for power though is the solar and batteries due to supply issues, although this will happen over the next few weeks 3. I have done a heap of landscaping out the front and I'm almost ready to do a new small retaining wall with some nice blocks to replace the brick and cemented in rocks around the raised garden beds cemented in river stone "was the fashion at the time" the house was built. I currently have a pallet of retaining wall blocks and 2 bulka bags of 20mm blue metal to replace the wood chip that is in the raised garden beds around the house 4. I now have 3 big raised garden beds for out the back to grow some vegetables, about 70cm high, 200cm long and 100cm wide 5. My 2 compost bins are already pretty full with brown, green and kitchen waste from the landscaping I'vedone so far, but they will probably take a few months to break down, so anything else that gets chopped, trimmed, and kitchen waste will just start filling the base of the raised garden beds to about 30cm before I start throwing 40cm of good compost, and stuff, for the vegetables to grow in, I'll need a few ton of compost and soil, but the local supplier can sent me bulka bags of the stuff Basically the logs, wood chips and a few strategically placed rocks for drainage, will give the beds some good organic materials down low to break down over time, and they will hold moisture during the warmer months to save the water in my big arse water tank if we don't get alot of rain So, all in all, the car and house mods are going well, and I'm really enjoying being retired, I sleep in too 0700 and slowly plod around inside until I feel like actually doing anything, and only work in the yard for as long as want, which has actually been alot over the last few weeks,  although when you look at it, it seems that not a huge amount of work has been done,  until I look at the before I started the work pics Happy days and good times indeed
    • hahaha yeah. Plan is to get side skirts and probably just rear pods. But going to do them one-by-one. I've got a set that I really like from RHDJapen, but that one isn't shipped to AU. So need to find someone who can get it for me
