So if I was to ride around on a Harley with its 20000000dB exhaust, and getting caught, can I spit in their face and ride off knowing they have no right to fine me since it "came like this from the factory"?

See how this just isn't gonna work?

Valid point... although one Harley will fall under the required decibel limit, 20 or so cruising past is a different story... an issue I’ve discussed wit a few of the guys at my work (I work for Harley-Davidson Australia). Well some of the older models might not fall within the required sound limit, the new ones do however.

It is definitely a system that could be abused if it was to be implemented and nothing more than a desperate bid for the govt to line their pockets with more of our hard earned cash for no reason. There seems to be no supporting evidence that this would in anyway prevent or reduce road fatalities or road rage. There is no supporting evidence for that matter that noise would in anyway contribute to above excitable levels of emissions.

I hope this never comes into fruition, it’s a farce and a massive joke.

/end rant

If this happens, I reckon we should just go buy a whole bunch of cheap-shit speakers from Jaycar and aim them at the sound meters.

If the system pings every motorist that passes (or even when no vehicle passes) then the government isn't going to be able to issue the the infringements.

Just get gear cheap enough that you're not going to care about losing it when the uniformed tax collectors inevitably come and take it away.

well obviously this camera wont work during peak hour >_> for 1 theres about 300 thousand cars on the road at once. 2. theyll run out of tickets in about the first 5 mins of peak hr. 3. ive got spare speakers... someone give me a cheap dvd player and ill hook it up outside one of these cameras.

ill even design a solar panel for my speakers so it cna last through out the day >_>

next thing u know theyll ban winding ur windows down because possibly hazardous projectiles could hit u and cause u to crash... or force u to buy govt issue cars of 1 vehicle and make every single person in australia to drive the same damed vehical....

In a situation where a road may be two, three or more lanes wide, where there will often be cars travelling next to each other, how exactly will this camera distiguish which car the sound is coming from?

That is most likely one of the cameras which detect stolen/unregistered cars

There is such a camera. That would mean that the camera has to take the plate and file it all on it's own.Do they have such a thing?

whats to stop someone with a handheld air horn honking as every car went past...

:P

    • I thought it could be an issue because the standard plate was flexing when stressed. Maybe the original gear set will hold a bit better without flex? Last time on the dyno it made around 670nm at the hubs. Now it have bigger turbo and better intake but have not been on a dyno yet. The car is being used from family trips to drag race events. So the shifts can be a little violent. It is grinding if I shift to fast so was thinking I should overhaul it soon.
    • From the factory on RB26s there's a fitting on the intake manifold collector/"plenum" that provides pre-throttle boost signal. That's how they did it back in the day, I figure it's fine to replicate it.
    • I would be surprised if that wasn't the issue. It's probably telling you, that even if you remove the plastic liner, you may have some other clearance issues that may occur too in some scenarios. IE, tyre to guard. It looks like someone has already rolled the lip, but you may still have issues in the future IE, turning and hitting a bump etc. The fact it changes how bad it makes the noise when you are going backward vs forward is highly indicative that it's the tyre rubbing. They do make a terrible sound, even if you're only pushing a project car that has a liner hanging down on a tyre!   Has the car been lowered? If it has been, what is the measurement from the centre of the wheel hub to the lip of the guard straight up?

    • Mark's a bit smarter than people give him credit... He'd convince the person that is to become dead, to drive him to the forest first. That way his car has no evidence in it, and he's free to dispose of their vehicle permanently how he sees fit too...
