Had a look at a '96 s2 r33 today. Just wanted to clarify a few things...

the vin on the firewall was ECR33-102113

build plate engine number RB25DET 2498

build plate chassis F55R30A RC41

Model number GGKBRTFR33UDA-A-AA

then i had a look at the import approval on the strut tower

Approval number 13993

04/01

VIN 6T91MPR04T1JPL005

i cant remember what the rego sticker said, sorry.

Now am i missing something or should the import approval vin match the one on the firewall? or the model no on the build plate?

also with the blue build plate i read on the forums that it should be smooth, but the one i looked at had been stamped, or engraved, i could feel the ridges to each number. is this right?

I know that some of the imports get the km wound back and i think this did as well as the odo showed 56K km but there was a sticker on the cam cover that said its 100Kkm service was at 124Kkm on 04/01. i dont really expect a car to do less then 5Kkm a year, even a import.

and another thing that was a bit dodgy was that the radiator water was a bit murky, brown like. sort of rusty or something. this doesnt look like a good sign to me. it should be green or something. he said that the car did have a front mount on it but he took it off after a car with a tow ball reveresed into the skyline. he said that the tow ball protruded into the air gap in the front bar and damaged only the intercooler so the stock one has been placed back on it. i sort of think that it may of damaged a bit more then that???

But on the plus side, it was my first drive of a skyline and i was impressed. the car drove really well with the lowered suspension. the boost came on strong and early although the original boost gauge was not working, the bov was a little annoying. the car looked tops with 350z 18s on it. i didnt even know that they fitted straight on, bolt on? one problem was i was slowing down from a half decent speed and the brakes locked up. i didnt mean for them too (but it was good in a way)-i didnt even think i was slowing real hard, but a great big puff of smoke came from the front wheels and i didnt feel the abs. dont all s2 have abs? anyway im pretty impressed with it and will continue on my endevour to find one that feels right. at least it is a good base for other cars.

any help with the issues raised would be great

Sounds liike it was imported pre-SEVS, the Australian VIN wasn't just ECR33XXX with a prefix before it (eg 6U90001ECR33XXX). If you are concerned you can contact DOTARS directly to find out the details of importation.

Blue build plate: engraved is fine. Read this thread for more info.

ABS optional. My S2 does not have it.

Coolant can be other colours but should be clean, indicating it's been changed regularly. Rusty sounds like hasn't been changed as often as it should.

I'd go with the timing belt sticker for kms. Either wound back or been swapped with a different dash cluster (maybe not hooked up right that's why boost gauge isn't working??)

Bottom line is that car has been wound back - probably has 160k on it if going by timing belt sticker..If you still like the car use this as bargaining tool...most of the r33s are wound back anyway.

ABS - you can see the module on the passenger side of firewall if it has it. Check if it has an airbag - I think most series2 do. If it has an aftermarket wheel this is illegal.

and back on topic.

Sorry i need the help.

private sale, sir-d

You have to run a few checks on it then with Nissan Fast software as well as get a police check and then get a mechanic to look it over... i went to a dodgy car dealer, found a car i liked, the car was a mess even after 2 RACV inspections. I refused to buy it. Went to a GOOD dealer and now have a massive smile on my face when I drive it!

why does everyone say the clocks have been wound back... they wouldnt do it to every single car... plus they sell and get a new car coz there cheap as chips

Mate they pretty much all are unless you have logs books. I have a friend who knows an importer and he asked if he wanted the k's wound back on his but he opted not to because he had all the orginal log books for it. it was not much over 100k but as someone else has stated cars with less are more attractive.

    • Harness is for a s1 Rb25det, and it is engine and lower harness.  the old harness had broken off plugs and was in very rough condition/exposed wires and splices etc. it is not able to be put back on the car, I could visually inspect to see if they had rewired any pins on the ecu plug. The fuel pump definitly isn’t turning off it’s an external pump and very loud you can hear it. Will look at the other harness tonight, am also going to pull the fuel rail and watch the injectors spray, will update here with what I find. Pretty sure at this point it has to be something to do with injectors because car will fire up on starting fluid and cas is clicking the Injectors. Fuel pressure is steady 43psi
    • Check the injectors flow evenly, and are actually flowing what you and the ECU think they should be flowing. If it's starting up on starter fluid, you have a fuel issue. Is it possible under cranking your fuel pump is turning off?   The harness you replaced, is that the whole engine harness? Do yourself a test, and drop the old harness on and plug it into the Z32 ECU. It's possible they've wired things different. From memory S1 to S2 is different in RB25 and you may have a wrong loom
    • I haven’t pulled the injectors to watch them spray yet but they are clicking from the cas and all of the spark plugs are wet with fuel. I’ve thought the cylinders were being flooded from the beginning and was hoping fuel pressure would fix it. Tonight I am going to pull the rail and watch the injectors spray. Don’t know how to test/diagnose if the plugs are firing in correct sequence but that should be a timing thing and as far as timing goes my car still has the half moon for the cas can only install it 1 way. And my mechanical timing is 100% correct I posted photos above. Confirmed with the balancer on and off.
    • I checked spark on all cylinders and they all visually have spark with the plug pulled and grounded, but plug 1 is the only one that fouled. This was a running swap that blew up and was rebuilt by a machine shop, put a new wiring specialties harness and did all gaskets, studs, and bolts while it was out.  compression is 135-150 across all cylinders. Aside from that from my understanding with the z32 ecu and maf the car should start regardless. The wiring for TPS and the dual 02 sensor/ dual knock sensor stuff shouldn’t actually stop the car from starting or even running well, (just slightly rich)  they just give fault codes. Car supposedly is supposed to start as long as you have z32 afm and ecu with the nistune base map and that’s info coming from a well known and trusted tuner who does a lot with SR/RB (Rsenthalpy). After more trouble shooting today where I’m at right now is that the cas is sending signal to the injectors they click while spinning the rotor, Fuel pressure is now set at 43psi, all cylinders have good compression and all of the plugs looked great (just wet with fuel) except for cylinder 1 which was very black (cylinder 1 has 150psi compression). all of the coils generate spark if pulled out and grounded out on the head. On the fuel pump car just pops into the exhaust. On starting fluid car will fire off. Hard to tell if all cylinders are firing off but definitley a couple. sounds like all of them but it’s only for 3-5 seconds hard to tell.
