Others have posted in here that it can be done. when i rung nissan there is only one type of gtr valve spring yet there are 3 different tyres of rb25 valve springs when i rung the local cam/head specialist.

Id consider using an rb26 head on that combination as then you will be able to use the standard wiring. THis + the superior flow characteristics make for a good choice

:P hi guys,

I've just bought another r33gtr to turn into a drag/monaro & xr6t basher.I've taken out the original engine and am currently building an rb25/30 hybrid.I was wondering can I swap valve springs from the rb26 with rb25.

>_<

Another GTR hey... lol

Why would you run the inferior rb25 head when you have an rb26?

Rb26 springs in to RB25 are fine

RB25 springs in to rb26 is definitely not fine.

The RB25 springs are shorter and are not suitable for the rb26.

:O Thanks for the replies guys. :D

I will do the 26 springs.

Why don't I use the 26 head ?

I'm stripping the complete motor out to keep it totally original. My other is a stock std 95 Tommy Kaira.

So in the future If I decide to sell them, they should return me more with a worked (non original) rb26 and 25/30 hybrid engines installed. As well as the original/unmodified/less than 15000km engines for them.

To me this makes sence.

Why own one of the best std sports cars in the world and flog the absolute guts out of the engine/gearbox until it goes bang. Then wish that you had kept it standard and drove it for the next 20 odd years.

When you can keep it for ever, the way it left the factory, if you put a hybrid in.

:D

    • Wow ELVIS. You have an....interesting approach to conversation. Did you not notice that I wasn't talking to you?
    • Hello Liam - HA - somewhere in flies - possibly I have an update, but I have been so busy, projects have taken a back seat to getting business back on track.  I will let you know the outcome, but I think I am going to go for the 8HP,  CHEERS.  ELVIS
    • Thanks Joshuaho96, yes - as someone else also suggested, the 8HP seems the 'smart choice' - HA - and ZERO to do with cost, but I am sure 8 speeds will be better than 6 speeds - HA - maybe.  I will purchase a new 8HP,  Thanks.  ELVIS.
    • Nobody said anything about getting a "...cheap Falcon box..."- it was JUST a question about a specific transmission.  And YOU may have a problem with not enough $ - HA - I do NOT - so please keep your comments like you are some financial guru to yourself.  BUT - much appreciated re the cost of a new 8HP and I twill probably be the way I go.  Thanks.  ELVIS.
    • Most people I know in the BMW world are swapping 6HPs for 8HPs. The 6HP has a big issue with one of the clutch drum bushings wearing out shockingly early which leads to them going into limp mode going into 5th/6th gear as the oil pressure loss from the worn bushing causes clutch slip. Even with the adaptations in shifting the TCU can't bump line pressure enough to keep the clutches from slipping and burning. I've personally looked at a 335d with 6HP28 with one owner and ~90k miles on it and the transmission adaptations were way out of spec and even though it nominally drove ok I'm confident it would have needed a full rebuild sooner than later. Other than that they're fine, but the 8HP doesn't really have weird issues like this to my knowledge and they're in everything these days so pulling them out of crashed cars isn't too hard.
