I got done last night... on my way home form the mini meet in St Kilda.

I was doing XX km/h in a 60 zone and the kind police officer... in and unmarked car/plain clothes said i was doing 100 km/h.

I disputed that and he didn't produce any evidence

ie. a speed camera/radar.

Just his word and it wasn't as if he was close behind me as it was a good 5 - 10 secs before he caught upto me and i was doing 65 by this stage.

And he was behind traffic before i saw him weave out... if the traffic wasn't going the same speed as me how can he book me?

Also he didn't issue me a ticket or anything on the spot last night.

Is there a way of getting out of this ?

There MUST be a loop hole...

Otherwise i'm gonna loose my licence for donkeys

Shit, thats pretty rough..bad end to the night thats for sure. It was about 3am on a thursday night for godsakes!

Its really up to him as to whether he fills in the required paperwork, but from what I hear in that situation they can send you the ticket in the mail so it might be a waiting game.

Depends what the final ticket ends up stating, but if its a big one you might be best fighting it in court. If its just the one officer in the car with no gun then its his word against yours. He's a cop so its hard, but depending on the circumstances you might be able to fight it.

Yeah tell me about it. Not too worried...

just the $700 odd fine it will probably be... and min 6 months loss i reckon.

It was him and another copper in the car.

But there was no gun, like i said. i disputed it and he didn't back it with anything.

He had a whilry light on the roof for god's sake... not even the in car lights they have now.

He was looking for piss pots cause trouble near a local club... defiantely wasn't near me at the intersection casue i checked and then scooted off.

Must have heard the car screaming and decided to pin me.

Surely the cop would have to prove it. You didn't happen to get any plates of cars that can vouch for your story? If you can prove your story then they will be hard pressed to pin that speed on you when there is no actual gun readout.

If he wasn't following you then he took a "guess" at your speed which cannot be proven.....

Apparently they are coming down on the cops for not fighting real crime. Maybe they will leave us alone and catch the real criminals....

And he was behind traffic before i saw him weave out... if the traffic wasn't going the same speed as me how can he book me?

and

There were[nt?] any other cars around really.

So were there other cars or not

Just make sure you have your story straight for the courts :)

If he didn't issue you with a ticket on the spot, and had no radar, then he has NO evidence. If a fine arrives in the mail I would take it to court. If the officer can't produce documentary evidence of an offence then how could it possibly stand up in court ? No magistrate would accept hearsay as evidence, the cop would just end up looking like a complete fool. The officer KNOWS this believe me. I would be very surprised if a fine is mailed to you.

I have twice rep'd myself in court re: traffic offences and twice had rulings in my favour.

don't panic.

Kinda odd that.. Soz.

There were cars about (4 of them) but they were about 300 meters back and the cop came screaming out of that pack and up behind me.

so there was traffic but none near me... if ya get what i mean ?!?!?

BigDatto...

would you be able to e-mail me some points and stuff to help my case?

ash

This sounds like something that happened to me and Ula just a little over a year ago.

Speeding along the Western Ring Road (near Macca's) They didn't produce proof. Just threatened us. Ula even got threatened with court and lossing his car (of course, it's a skyline). I just got told that my car wasn't a sports car and I shouldn't be driving so fast (haha, love that)

Anyway, they said, we'd get it in the mail a month later. Nothing happened, Ula can probably elaborate.

P.S. Ula was behind me, 'trying' catch me. (Suck it down, b¡tch) :)

Yeah... i had something like that too...

i skated out of a car wash 10 months ago... HUGE drift. cop busted me and i said there was detergent on my wheels etc.

etc.

he said i'd get a review of licence in the mail.. ain't seen it yet :)

But this cop seemed pretty destined to screw me. Hope he doesn't... but if he does... court should be fun

dont worry too much ash

they got NO EVIDENCE

they are just threathening u out!

many of my frens got pull over by speeding, but they got no prove!many= more than 45 cars got threaten but no fine even they said so on the nite!

they are just bored so mite as well pull u over for nothing at all!

what are they gonna charge u for?

whats the statment?

by driving at 100km+ in st kilda with no evidence or witnesses provided?get real! they will just embarrass themselves if thats the case coz if its braught to court they will lost a BIG TIME

man u serious?

gees.... well technically they can book u without a radar... they use GUESSTIMICATION where they will follow u at a certain speed for a set time til it looks like theyre doing about the same speed then they generally mark it downa few ks.

BUT only trained officers can do this... i do believe that not all n00bish policemen have this training and if they werent of any reasonable rank i wouldnt worry.

yeah true

i bee dicked like that b4..

thank god the cop was half decent and let e off with 130 in an 100 zone cause i entered the freeway from the hoppers crossing exit at around 180 then practicaly locked up when i relised a cop was behind me

but they guy understood my sistuation.. i have a turbo hahaha

so he let me off with 3 points and a fine

ASH!!!!!!!!!!

lol bloody hell....

we have to get you to a track so that you can have a play.

:)

boys and their toys. ;)

You didn't buy the beasty so that you could be stuck with no licence!

Out of all the above posts, inark is the most well informed, they don't need to have a radar to book you, and I tend to think that if they didn't dick you for it on the spot, that perhaps the guy just wanted to have a look at your car! ;)

You also said unmarked car & plain clothes..... did he produce any ID?

Maybe it wasn't even a real copper! (wishful thinking!)

With the flashing lights on top? Try explaining that one in court and see how it went down? :);)

Who knows, you might be lucky. He might just go back and write you a 25km/hr over one. I'm sure most times i've been dicked they've written them down a bit lower. If thats the case, i'd just be happy to cop the 3 points and pay the $ and be done with it.

    • From there, it is really just test and assemble. Plug the adapter cables from the unit into the back of the screen, then the other side to the car harness. Don't forget all the other plugs too! Run the cables behind the unit and screw it back into place (4 screws) and you should now have 3 cables to run from the top screen to the android unit. I ran them along the DS of the other AV units in the gap between their backets and the console, and used some corrugated tubing on the sharp edges of the bracket so the wires were safe. Plug the centre console and lower screen in temporarily and turn the car to ACC, the AV should fire up as normal. Hold the back button for 3 sec and Android should appear on the top screen. You need to set the input to Aux for audio (more on that later). I put the unit under the AC duct in the centre console, with the wifi antenna on top of the AC duct near the shifter, the bluetooth antenna on the AC duct under the centre console The GPS unit on top of the DS to AC duct; they all seem to work OK there are are out of the way. Neat cable routing is a pain. For the drive recorder I mounted it near the rear view mirror and run the cable in the headlining, across the a pillar and then down the inside of the a pillar seal to the DS lower dash. From there it goes across and to one USB input for the unit. The second USB input is attached to the ECUtec OBD dongle and the 3rd goes to the USB bulkhead connected I added in the centre console. This is how the centre console looks "tidied" up Note I didn't install the provided speaker, didn't use the 2.5mm IPod in line or the piggyback loom for the Ipod or change any DIP switches; they seem to only be required if you need to use the Ipod input rather than the AUX input. That's it, install done, I'll follow up with a separate post on how the unit works, but in summary it retains all factory functions and inputs (so I still use my phone to the car for calls), reverse still works like factory etc.
    • Place the new daughterboard in the case and mount it using the 3 small black rivets provided, and reconnect the 3 factory ribbon cables to the new board Then, use the 3 piggyback cables from the daughterboard into the factory board on top (there are stand offs in the case to keep them apart. and remember to reconnect the antenna and rear cover fan wires. 1 screw to hold the motherboard in place. Before closing the case, make a hole in the sticker covering a hole in the case and run the cable for the android unit into the plug there. The video forgot this step, so did I, so will you probably. Then redo the 4 screws on back, 2 each top and bottom, 3 each side and put the 2 brackets back on.....all ready to go and not that tricky really.
    • Onto the android unit. You need to remove the top screen because there is a daughterboard to put inside the case. Each side vent pops out from clips; start at the bottom and carefully remove upwards (use a trim remover tool to avoid breaking anything). Then the lower screen and controls come out, 4 screws, a couple of clips (including 3 flimsy ones at the top) and 3 plugs on the rear. Then the upper screen, 4 screws and a bunch of plugs and she is out. From there, remove the mounting brackets (2 screws each), 4 screws on the rear, 2 screws top and bottom and 3 screws holding in the small plates on each side. When you remove the back cover (tight fit), watch out for the power cable for the fan, I removed it so I could put the back aside. The mainboard is held in by 1 screw in the middle, 1 aerial at the top and 3 ribbon cables. If you've ever done any laptop stuff the ribbon cables are OK to work with, just pop up the retainer and they slide out. If you are not familiar just grab a 12 year old from an iphone factory, they will know how it works The case should now look like this:
    • Switching the console was tricky. First there were 6 screws to remove, and also the little adapter loom and its screws had to come out. Also don't forget to remove the 2 screws holding the central locking receiver. Then there are 4 clips on either side....these were very tight in this case and needed careful persuading with a long flat screw driver....some force required but not enough to break them...this was probably the fiddliest part of the whole job. In my case I needed both the wiring loom and the central locking receiver module to swap across to the new one. That was it for the console, so "assembly is the reverse of disassembly"
    • But first....while I was there, I also swapped across the centre console box for the other style where the AV inputs don't intrude into the (very limited !) space.  Part# was 96926-4GA0A, 284H3-4GA0B, 284H3-4GA0A. (I've already swapped the top 12v socket for a USB bulkhead in this pic, it fit the hole without modification:) Comparison of the 2: Basically to do the console you need to remove the DS and PS side console trim (they slide up and back, held in by clips only) Then remove the back half of the console top trim with the cupholders, pops up, all clips again but be careful at the front as it is pretty flimsy. Then slide the shifter boot down, remove the spring clip, loose it forever somewhere in the car the pull the shift knob off. Remove the tiny plastic piece on DS near "P" and use something thin and long (most screwdrivers won't fit) to push down the interlock and put the shifter down in D for space. There is one screw at the front, then the shifter surround and ashtray lift up. There are 3 or 4 plugs underneath and it is off. Next is the rear cover of the centre console; you need to open the console lid, pop off the trim covering the lid hinge and undo the 2rd screw from the driver's side (the rest all need to come out later so you can do them all now and remove the lid) Then the rear cover unclips (6 clips), start at the top with a trim tool pulling backwards. Once it is off there are 2 screws facing rearwards to remove (need a short phillips for these) and you are done with the rear of the console. There are 4 plugs at the A/V box to unclip Then there are 2 screws at the front of the console, and 2 clips (pull up and back) and the console will come out.
