Before someone states the ol do a search thing its been covered many a times in this forum,

For starters i have done a search and ive done research and the above etc.

Im currently planning on an upgrade turbo cams gear belt and headgasket(maybe)

I have 12 weeks until i go ahead and upgrade, But firstly ill like to ask the following

Shopping List:

HKS 2835 pro S Turbo A/R .68 or larger .87 i think

Tomei Poncams 256 Duration 8.5 Lift

Adjust. Cam Gear Exhaust Side,

New Timing Belt Stronger one

Nismo 550cc injectors,

Z32 AFM

Headgasket to lower compression slightly saves on engine life :D maybe but what choice should i go with if any for head gasket, so many thicknesses but not so much coverage on this topic, advantages/disadvantages, and im sure as ive seen results of such setups or as of similar setups, but everyones setup usually differs slighty right down to the pod filter they use, im sure i would be happy with the following setup upgrades on my engine with higher power but is it a beneficial upgrade to do the headgasket to maintain engine life via lowering compression, if so which one would be most beneficial for my upgrade, as i wish not to change engine internals just as yet as im sure im not willing to go over 300 rwkw MAX more of a mediocre 250 middle margin sorta thing, maybe higher but we will see.

For starters:

Current Mods,

Upgraded Clutch

Upgraded lsd

coilovers

k&n Pod

3.5 in turbo back

Higher Flowing Cat

hybrid intercooler

apexi pfc

upgraded brakes (will be done prior to upgrade)

Splitfire Coilpacks

hybrid boost controller

Fuel Pump is walbro high flow

Am i taking the right track? Also any recommendations as well as can alter to desire the above according to opinions? And more information on aftermarket headgaskets brands recommendations etc, as this one has as far as the numerous searches i have done has not bee covered very well :S ? As well as i have got a malpassi fuel reg at hand in a box, need a yay or nay for this item to be installed allong with upgrades, along with which A/R should i go the smaller or Larger.

Ive seen results from different angles, but setups vary to and from im after advice and opinions thats the main part please

Cheers Adam

IMO - stock head gasket is fine

Its poor tuning that will kill the motor.

Fuel reg - stock is fine. I wouldnt change it

I didnt on my car 270rwkw

250rwkw is a good safe target

You might find the walbro pump isnt upto the job. Mine certainly wasnt

But only a dyno tune will tell that story once you see if you have the fuel or not

wont need to adjust the cam gear on exhaust side as most results have shown best results at 0deg adjustment .. but if you have the dyno time to test it out.. go for gold

try a cometic metal gasket... std thickness and cheaper than a nissan oem ..can handle 18psi from a 3040 so you should be right with the 2835 ..

gates belts are meant to be stronger than the factory ones, and are about the same price .

with the 550cc injectors i doubt you would need the FPR either at only around 250rwkw

Ah cheers guys this is helping me out, one to save money two the need to possibly get better fuel pump, probably the bosch 040 intank pump should handle the job, so the cometic 1.0 mm i think is standard head gasket as well, which helps on choice as well

Hmm what will i do with this fse malpassi fuel reg? more space takers in shed

Cheers so far, still open for opinions if others are willing to give if they wish,

Adam

    • Bit of a pity we don't have good images of the back/front of the PCB ~ that said, I found a YT vid of a teardown to replace dicky clock switches, and got enough of a glimpse to realize this PCB is the front-end to a connected to what I'll call PCBA, and as such this is all digital on this PCB..ergo, battery voltage probably doesn't make an appearance here ; that is, I'd expect them to do something on PCBA wrt power conditioning for the adjustment/display/switch PCB.... ....given what's transpired..ie; some permutation of 12vdc on a 5vdc with or without correct polarity...would explain why the zener said "no" and exploded. The transistor Q5 (M33) is likely to be a digital switching transistor...that is, package has builtin bias resistors to ensure it saturates as soon as base threshold voltage is reached (minimal rise/fall time)....and wrt the question 'what else could've fried?' ....well, I know there's an MCU on this board (display, I/O at a guess), and you hope they isolated it from this scenario...I got my crayons out, it looks a bit like this...   ...not a lot to see, or rather, everything you'd like to see disappears down a via to the other side...base drive for the transistor comes from somewhere else, what this transistor is switching is somewhere else...but the zener circuit is exclusive to all this ~ it's providing a set voltage (current limited by the 1K3 resistor R19)...and disappears somewhere else down the via I marked V out ; if the errant voltage 'jumped' the diode in the millisecond before it exploded, whatever that V out via feeds may have seen a spike... ....I'll just imagine that Q5 was switched off at the time, thus no damage should've been done....but whatever that zener feeds has to be checked... • I think Fitmit had some, have a look on there (theyre Australian as well)
    • Hah, fair enough! But if you learn with this one you can drive any other OEM manual. No modern luxury features like auto rev-matching or hillstart assist to give you a false sense of confidence. And a heavy car with not that much torque so it stalls easily.
    • Actually, I'd say all three are the automatic option. Just the different trim levels. The manual would be RSFS, no?
