What batteries do you guys use to support all your big sound systems in the R33's?

The bracket where it sits seems a pain when looking for a powerfull upgrade which is usually too long and doesnt fit....

thanks

Thiese are supposed to be the 'forshizzle'. Pretty sure they are still available. Contact wrxhoon

When my battery died last year I got the NRMA to deliver and install one because I wanted to use the car that evening! I got the biggest f*ck-off one that he had :( He had to replace the tray it sits on, the clamp that goes over the top, and also the terminals because the posts were bigger. I should have got a bigger earth wire too, for future expansion of power usage. I don't know what the CCA is but it's never run flat and never even hinted at struggling with anything. It cost about $180 fitted I think, including all the extra bits. I think the standard size one was about $120, but I figured that if you're going to spend $120, you may as well spend $180 and get something much better.

I usually get the biggest CCA battery I can - 600 + is always a benefit. From experience the NRMA batteries are quite good, and the bonus is they come to you.. so getting it done at an inconvienient time (in my case @ 3am on a Sunday morning) is handy

In previous days (when I had the big systems in my cars) i've used odyssey batteries (the same one lasted close to 9 years - the commodore killed it when the alternator wiring harness burnt out - although took close to 500kms of daily driving to do it - didn't notice the little light on the dashboard :( ). Try batteryworld (http://www.batteryworld.com.au/v1/ProductEnquiry/car.htm) or aero parts (http://www.aeroparts.com.au/odyssey.htm) as a place to start for pricing. Know a guy who has a bank of them in his Delica - works a treat with all the 4WD kit he's got.

Yeah, throw in as big a battery as you can. The odyssey batteries can be good for stereo's but they have been plagued in the past by faults, and drain quickly if you have a alarm and leave the car for more than a few days without starting.

I don't think I have ever heard of anyone complain about Optima batteries, extremely reliable and won't drain if you don't start the car for a few days (great reserve capacity RC). Otherwise, just grab a normal car battery with largest CCA rating u can to fit.

    • I can get more photos of it here soon and I plan to make a thread detailing the process. I received the car this way and it sorely needs refinishing. That is probably the most appealing photo of it. Up close it is fading, cracked, and needs to be re-glued. Depending on their condition I'm on the fence between refinishing or making a new set.  Another angle hiding the pimples and razor pumps
    • According to this thread the RS4V with build plate RC40 comes with the R200 diff @ 4.083 ratio as well (mine has said RC40 denotation). We may need to check if the axle stubs are the same pattern as well. The auto subframes have longer axles. However I think yours being a later Series 2 as well, we should have the same bolt pattern for the diff stubs. Unless your upgraded rear also has upgraded axles. Either way, I would not be opposed to pulling the covers to check so I can inspect that  fancy rear core  Also I don't have HICAS. I don't believe that should change things but I hope the people here with heaps more experience than me can correct me if I'm wrong   Let me know if you want to attempt to make this work and I can get some pictures of mine from under the car.
    • It's not that straightforward. For example I have had this code because my ignitor/power transistor wires were unplugged. It knows something is wrong but has no idea what it means. If you want to actually diagnose this I recommend following the service manual flowchart for code 21. Ohm out the harness, coilpacks, inspect the ECU, etc. And again, it's entirely possible for there to be no problem at all but if you're running a different coilpack it'll trigger the code because it doesn't like what it sees.
    • If it (the code) wasn't still current, it should have gone away by itself by now. No, nothing it 10/10. But it is quite likely. Everything else to do with the ignition could still be responsible (which is wires and connectors). The car is an old piece of shit now, so all the wires and connectors are also old pieces of shit.
