Ive read a couple of threads regarding importing and one of them mentioned bribery during compliance. :S Is it a common need to bribe?

I just checked the motivation site, they had Series II for >20k, yet on J-spec they sell for 17-19 for ones that have done >100,00kms. THis price difference is getting me a bit worried, is J-spec trustworthy? Do most if not all vehicles bought this way get complied? Im scared that if i buy it, compliance wise, wont get through, then ill have a car i bought for 20k thats just there that i cant drive legally.

These might be really stupid questions, but it keeps arising in my mind whenever i browse J-spec.. Thank you~

The bribe that you were referring to is probably the parts that they loan to you for a small fee just to get your car coplied. compliance is your least worry. The biggest worry its chossing the car and at what condition they aree at

I just bought a 260rs with jspec for 32 landed and compiled. The car is still in japan waiting to be shipped out. So im pretty eager to find out at what state the car is nechanical wise. Cos you cant test drive it ETC. But they have a grading system though if its 3.5> it should be good. J spec so far is good by gar they are one of the cheapest dont know about the best. Although there are a few people in this forum that have bought their cars through Jspec and othe importers. But generally jspec prices are pretty good as i did a boit of shopping before i did mine.

Call jspec and get a feel for it call craig and say Yudy ask you to call him and im sure he will be glad to answer your questions and concerns.

everyone will do it differently

lets put it this way.

You will hear more about importing from the people that go bad.

Being human, you will focus on the bad.

Is importing annoying? Do you mind 15,000 sitting in a foreign dock waiting for import and your importer doesnt answer your calls / puts everything off?

Can I put my 2cents in

have you looked at using a company who buy directly through aucion houses, I dont know if prest, j-spec and others need to add to their FOB prices to pay for an independant buyer to purchase the vehicle, so you pay for j-spec and also for their buyer as well. increasing the price of the car.

R u in S.A?

Look up topic "How much does it really cost?"

I paid upfront costs on Dec 22,registered on March 3. Not bad considering Christmas.

Prestige gave me a stepby step instruction sheet. No problems.

One thing to remember early, is that it is the COMPLIER who does the importing. They get the licence tobring in and comply, even though you are the owner.

Iamshe complied ms S1. His charges include fitting a stock exhaust, the re fitting the a/m 3". He got me an Exellent deal on 17" tyres.

Its not really annoying, just takes a while.

    • just an update to this, poor man pays twice  Tried sanding down the pulleys but it didnt do the trick. Chucked another second hand alternator in the na car which I got for free off my mate and its fixed the squelling. Must have been unlucky with the bearings.    As for my turbo car, I managed to pick up a cwc rb alternator conversion bracket + LS alternator for 250 off marketplace, looked to be in really good nick. Installed it , started the car and its not charging the battery.... ( Im not good with auto elec stuff so im not sure if this was all I needed to do but I verified such by using a multimeter on the battery when the engine was running and I was only getting 12.2v )   I had to modify the earth strap for the new LS alternator , factory earth strap was a 10mm bolt which did not fit the bolt on the LS alternator which was double the size so I cut it off , went to repco bought some ring terminals that fit, crimped it onto the old earth strap and bolted it up to the alternator , started the car and same issue. Ran like shit and was reading 12.2 at the battery.  For a "plug and play" advertised kit thats not very plug and play but alas.  My question is , am I missing something ? Ive been reading that some people recommend upgrading the stock 80 amp alternator fuse to a 140 amp but I dont see how that would stop the alternator charging especially at idle not under load.  Regardless ive pulled it out and am going to get it bench tested by an auto elec tomorrow but it would be handy to know if ive missed something silly or have done something wrong.
    • My wild guess is that you have popped off an intake pipe....check all of the hoses between the turbo and the throttle for splits or loose clamps.
    • Awesome, thanks for sharing!
    • To provide more specific help, more information is needed. What Android screen? What is its wiring diagram? Does the car's wiring have power at any required BAT and ACC wires, and is the loom's earth good?
    • So, now all you need to do is connect the 2 or 3x 12v feeds into the unit to permanent 12v, ACC 12V and IGN 12V that you can find in the spot behind the stereo, and the earth, and then it will switch on with the car.
