hey guys

just wanting your thoughts and opinions on that. My reason for thinking about doing it is fuel economy(uni is a 100km return trip for me soon). i still want to drive a skyline, but knowing the fact that i can use unleaded fuel if need be and and better fuel economy.

would a r33 gts25 manual give better fuel economy then my current car (r32 gtst rb20det auto)?

It should be noted that power is not a concern for me (that y my gtst is auto!) i just enjoy driving skylines, and cant settle with a fuel miser! eheh

thankyou.

You'll only be downgrading in the sense that you won't have the performance of a turbo car, but if your not worried about that then you'll be upgrading in a sense. I'd say you'd definitely have better fuel consumption, and the fact that its manual will make it even more economical. On the point of it being a manual, they're definitely more enjoyable to drive(your driving the car, the cars not driving you).

As i said before, if your not concerned about performance then you wont regret stepping out of your 32gtst and into a 33gts25.

PS Make sure the aircon works in the 33, it'll make the trips alot more comfortable :worship:

As above, going from a TURBO 32 to a non-turbo 33 is a downgrade, plain and simple. Also if the only reason you are changing is for improved fuel consumption i would not be expecting much. The amount of time and money you will spend selling one car and making sure the next one is good would completely negate any potential fuel saving.

If you want a fuel sipper get a toyota echo, otherwise enjoy your car and spend a little extra each week, life is short!!!

"The amount of time and money you will spend selling one car and making sure the next one is good would completely negate any potential fuel saving." <-- the winning arguement

Thanks to all that have replied. I have taken both sides to account and have decided to keep the old gal. Its weird how whenever u seriously think about selling your car, it suddenly decides to "misbehave"!

..or did my sparkies just shit themselves appropiately..haha

cheers once again.

    • Bit difficult to follow. Have a look below and see what the standard R32 layout was like. Note there was a restrictor in place immediately before "turbocharged pressure control solenoid" that, if removed, magically got you 1 bar boost.
    • I might be way off the mark here.. there must be a T junction under the manifold. That takes manifold pressure through a check valve prior to the T, one side splits out to this bleed off orifice, the other straight to the wastegate actuators.
    • Carrying out some engine due diligence before my first drive in a 260RS that has been in storage for 10+ years, and found two lines that are susposed to be plumbed into the boost control solenoid. One of the lines (the wastegate boost supply line) to actuate the gates, had a bolt in one end blocking it. The other line (main boost signal line) from the very rear of the intake manifold (RB26DETT) and runs up to the boost controller had this pill in the end of it as seen in photos. Other than the obvious (T28 Ceramic turbos might well be cooked)  Can anyone shed any light on if there is any validity at all with this mod, bleeding a constant fixed rate of manifold boost pressure off through this 3mm hole?  Is it deliberate?  Was this a 90s Jap mod done to RB26's? Or has someone just fitted this without any idea of what happens to ceramic T28s if they are not gate controlled?
    • This looks great! Awesome to have the 5 speed with an LSD in this. The Recaro's look like SR2's or SR3's. It's a shame they've been retrimmed as they would have looked sweet in their original colours. I think I'd want my agent to be a little more up front and informative too. I've never imported but I reckon it would make me a little nervous, so the more info the better.
