Car: MANUAL ER34 GTT

boost controller : dual stage Turbosmart

ok, i had it all wired up for low and high, low is set to 5psi, high was set to 9psi.

i had it dyno'd on the weekend, but we couldnt get boost to go past 9.5psi.

i was told by the tuner that i had it installed incorrectly... but when i installed it the way he suggested, i had unlimited boost (didnt matter if it was on low or high, or settings on the controller itself)

at the end of it i was pulling 172.3 rwkw on 9 psi.

my AFR were 14.5-8:1 on nice putter @ 100kms.. but under boost it went to about 10:1

its definatly not exhaust restriction because when i have unlimited boost i can hit 15psi.

if anyone with a stock GTT and hasnt moved the stock T piece between the actuator, wastegate, turbo intake. etc.

if they can take a high res pic.. so i can attempt rewiring it.. it seems i have a tube or two left over.

as i was saying, i've also tried blocking off the tube coming from the ? (cant remember what thats from) and then just putting the boost controller between the Turbo and the wastegate (arrow points towards gate)

unplug the hoses to the factory solenoid DON'T UNPLUG THE WIRES TO IT...

and simply put your dual stage between it... easy!

I don't recommend you use the turbosmart Dual stage.. I had bad experiences with it... it spikes...

and that top hose in your diagram, thats goes to your intercooler piping man.. don't block it.. you need it...

install the dual stage tee in between the actuator and the other tee that runs to the factory boost controller.

Leave the rest alone.

The factory wastegate is fairly soft so by removing the factory solenoid you will end up with a lower base boost setting that you have to make up for by bleeding more air via the dual stage.

Does the 34 still have the factory stepped low/high boost thing happening? If so then do a search for the factory boost controller mod that will set a constant boost level for more consistant results.

I've forgotten how the stock setup goes for my GTT

could someone who does NOT have a boost controller show me factory wise the setup from the T piece, actuator, turbo, intercooler piping, wastegate.

if i simply put it between the turbo + wastegate i have unlimited boost (up to 1.1bar...furthest ive had my foot down), how i have it installed at the moment it works fine, can completely control boost... just not get it above 9.5psi

    • Block bump. $400. As above cyl 6 needs bore or sleeve.
    • I would think making the argument that the travel is limited by a spring flexing against a spring perch as "the same method". Later on in the document they do state that the spring can't bind on full bump travel and cannot come loose in full rebound travel as well. (which is all very sensible). The laws are actually pretty sensible and reasonable. It's just that the people who enforce and check them don't actually read them or know them accurately. "Oh, coilovers? Instant fail mate. Don't even need to look at it." - Guy who will be instantly reported by me. There is probably merit to people who do get defected for height also get defected for the suspension in that state that allows it. I did never consider the people who are complaining about coilovers being picked on are also running around at 50mm off the floor.
    • I think given SAU's knowledge of E85 we can strongly conclude that 10% ethanol in almost any situation is entirely fine. Almost all of the myths against E85 were overblown, let alone E10.
    • From your link See bold text, is this referring to damper settings, if so that may a issue for "some" inspectors, I cannot see aftermarket coilovers having the evidence that "must be available that its functional performance is equivalent to the original" Maybe just remove the adjustment knows and hope for the best???? Meh 5.2 Suspension travel In all instances, modifications to a vehicle’s suspension must ensure the integrity of the system and not compromise the ride quality. At least two thirds of the original suspension travel should be maintained in both directions (rebound (i.e. extension) and bump (i.e. compression)), and rebound must be limited by the same method used by the vehicle manufacturer or if this is not practicable due to the nature of the modification, an equivalent method.     • They actually don't - They adhere to VSB14 rules just like Victoria. The rules are against CABIN adjustable height, and it quite clearly states that the height has to be within parameters. I asked the VASS engineer to confirm this when I got my car engineered and they refused to engineer the coilovers because they didn't meet the requirements for requiring engineering. (mine are height adjustable.) People "Not wanting to bother" with "Actually reading/knowing/adhering to the rules" should result in fines and immediately losing the ability to issue blue slips and/or RWC's in Vic.
