hi guys,

I got my gtr dyno'ed a couple of weeks ago, and was wondering if the power figure was normal.

Its early 89, no doubt 200k+ on the clock.

got 225HP at 8psi boost

only mods are Apexi pods (no heat sheild)

Fuel was caltex vortex (couldnt fill up on bp98 at the time)

Its got the stock exhaust, cat, and boost restrictor.

I havnt run a compression test or leakdown test yet, and it doesnt seem to be using up oil.

so is that figure someting to worry about, or is it normal for a car of that age?

Thanks

Steve

That sounds pretty good for a stock 200k+ km GTR. If the car was modified the it might be a different story. The figure is even better if you used a 4WD dyno as you get more drivetrain loss. I wouldn't worry too much about the actual power figure asy dynos always vary, your power & torque curves will tell more about the way your car is running.

Beer Baron: 225hp is about 168kw.

yeah its 168kw, at the rear wheels.

i was just thinking about it last night, and it popped into my head that they are 206kw from factory form.

But then i just thought about it again a few mins ago (after a strong coffee) and remebered thats 206kw at the engine.

So therefore: drivetrain loss + 16 years of abuse + 200K = lower power reading?

did i just answer my own question?

Looks good, nice solid power for such an aged car.

Ring Lumpy and ask him if he'll print you one with the AFR on it. Should still be in the computer.

You won't get a torque graph. Well you can but it won't be accurate, once you start running it through gearbox/diff etc the figures of the reading will mean nothing. all it will do is give you an idea where it's strong and where it isn't. Remember, to get an ACCURATE torque figure you need and engine dyno, once the gearbox diff/tyres come into the equation all it will give you is an ESTIMTAE of tractive effort.

Hope I've explained that clearly?

Luckily I don't have to deal with 18 year old Matt's "Learning to wire" stuff in the project cars. And there's only one piece of wiring I'm displeased about in the Landcruiser, and it's about to be cut out... However, the box loads of parts that have been going through this place lately for the Landcruiser... Brake pads Brake Rotors Full handbrake overhaul Wheel Bearings Seals Swivel hubs Steering Boxes Half the suspension joints Shocks Air bags (Ones to go in the rear springs for towing) Water pump Timing kit Lower timing case Harmonic Balancer Radiator Lots of other little seals and shits Gas struts for the bonnet New power window switches And god knows what else I've forgotten... Ha ha ha I have my fingers crossed the pinion seals don't start leaking on the diffs, that the transfer case doesn't leak, and the gearbox input shaft doesn't leak, nor the rear main seal. As they're about the only seals I haven't replaced in the driveline! I'm seriously eyeing off buying new caliper rebuild kits front and rear brake calipers... I'll probably recheck all the valve clearances soon too, and hopefully, it should be all good and sweet to haul some long distance trips again!
