Hi guys I tried searching the forums but to no avail. I need some advice on which of these two turbos to go for. Considering my goal is to reach 300rwkw and to minimize as much lag as possible. The turbo choices are either a GT3540 with a .82 rear or the internally gated GT3037 which has a .63 rear on it. The car is a R33gtst and the mods are as follows :-

standard internals

3 inch exhaust

tomei pon camshafts

FMIC

BOV

standard exhaust manifold

microtech comp

044 fuel pump

malpassi reg

surgetank

600cc injectors

plenum with 65mm throttle

Eboost2

I think thats everything. Well everything needed to support the turbo reaching 300rwkw is on the car. So come on guys whats your thoughts on these turbo choices or am i picking the wrong turbos for the job?

any reasons for the parts youve chosen?

why microtech? i think youll find the 3" will kill the top end. for 300rwkw you really should have forged internals, as its beyond the limits for stock interals.some people have done it and been fine, and im sure there are others that have done it and its gone bang.

why plenum change? why bov change?

no signs of clutch, tyres, suspension and a good cold air intake

when do you expect the turbo to come on song?

what is "minimal lag" in your eyes. why did u choose 300rwkw? is there a particular goal? ie: 1/4 or something?

The HKS GT3037 Pro S integral gate turbos are available in .68 and .87 AR ratio turbine housings .

Garrett is supposed to be releasing .82 AR ratio integral gate housings for their GT30R and GT35R turbos in T3 flange ATM . The "right" GT30R Garrett has the same cartridge as HKS's GT3037 56T . Its unit number is 700382-12 - cheaper than a 3037 for essentially same thing . The common CHRA or cartridge part no is 700177-0007 or -5007 if you want to check .

The GT30R mentioned above will support 300Kw (400Hp) if everything else is suitable . The GT35R is more of a 600+Hp turbo in large (1.06AR) turbine housing form .

-Microtech has been chosen due to my tuners excellent tuning abilities with this computer system.

-Have been told by exhaust specialist that 3" will be enough.

-I agree on the internal comment you make. I do not have the funds to strengthen the internals, if it goes bang I will take it from there. But I know of mates cars that have made more that 300 on stock internals.

-Plenum has been changed for more airflow and effiency. Also to reduce intercooler pipe length, which in turn reduces lag.

-Silly question from you here... BOV is a must for high psi applications or any PSI for that matter.

-tripple plate clutch is installed so no worries here.

-tyres and suspension are not relevant in making power on a dyno.

-Cold air intake is installed.

Are you only interested in making power on the dyno? 300rwkw is not going to win you any dyno comps, so why bother? I beleive the current benchmark (at Summernats at least) is 680rwhp for a turbo 6.

If you are not going to drive or race the car, what is the point of having 300rwkw? Bragging rights at the pub have limited appeal...

Sorry didnt quite follow this. So you are saying that the internally gated GT3037 with a .63 rear will make 300rwkw with all the suporting mods?

im with quinny, whats the point of the power only for dyno runs?

if you wanna use it on the street too, a well setup 250rwkw would easily beat you. on the street average power makes a car quick, not peak power

No, people are more sick of seeing the same question come up once a week.

I wasn't trying to be bitchy or trying to insult you, I was just intrigued by your comment:

I have been playing with performance V8s for a few years now, and have seen a few people who just like to have 300rwkw because it sounds good to tell your mates that you have that much power. Personally, I would rather aim for strip times rather than power figures.

I agree that tyres and suspension are a must for good times on the track. But thats not what this post was about. It was about which turbo would best suit making 300kw on the dyno. Once it makes that power i will run it mate. I want good ets as well.

you would be able to run a better ET with less power (smaller turbo = less lag) and more suitable turbocharger for average power.

what sort of ET do u want to run

An 11 second pass would be nice paul. 300 was my figure because thats the kind of power you need to get an 11 do you agree? I dont think 250 rwkw in a manual would get you an 11 sec pass.

    • As far as I can tell I have everything properly set in the Haltech software for engine size, injector data, all sensors seem to be reporting proper numbers.  If I change any injector details it doesnt run right.    Changing the base map is having the biggest change in response, im not sure how people are saying it doesnt really matter.  I'm guessing under normal conditions the ECU is able to self adjust and keep everything smooth.   Right now my best performance is happening by lowering the base map just enough to where the ECU us doing short term cut of about 45% to reach the target Lambda of 14.7.  That way when I start putting load on it still has high enough fuel map to not be so lean.  After 2500 rpm I raised the base map to what would be really rich at no load, but still helps with the lean spots on load.  I figure I don't have much reason to be above 2500rpm with no load.  When watching other videos it seems their target is reached much faster than mine.  Mine takes forever to adjust and reach the target. My next few days will be spent making sure timing is good, it was running fine before doing the ECU and DBW swap, but want to verify.  I'll also probably swap in the new injectors I bought as well as a walbro 255 pump.  
    • It would be different if the sealant hadn't started to peel up with gaps in the glue about ~6cm and bigger in some areas. I would much prefer not having to do the work take them off the car . However, the filler the owner put in the roof rack mount cavities has shrunk and begun to crack on the rail delete panels. I cant trust that to hold off moisture ingress especially where I live. Not only that but I have faded paint on as well as on either side of these panels, so they would need to come off to give the roofline a proper respray. My goal is to get in there and put a healthy amount of epoxy instead of panel filler/bog and potentially skin with carbon fiber. I have 2 spare rolls from an old motorcycle fairing project from a few years back and I think it'd be a nice touch on a black stag.  I've seen some threads where people replace their roof rack delete with a welded in sheet metal part. But has anyone re-worked the roof rails themselves? It seems like there is a lot of volume there to add in some threads and maybe a keyway for a quick(er) release roof rack system. Not afraid to mill something out if I have to. It would be cool to have a cross bar only setup. That way I can keep the sleek roofline that would accept a couple bolts to gain back that extra utility  3D print some snazzy covers to hide the threaded section to be thorough and keep things covered when not using the rack. 
    • Probably not. A workshop grade scantool is my go to for proper Consult interrogation. Any workshop grade tool should do it. Just go to a workshop.
    • In my head it does make sense to be a fuel problem since that is what I touched when cleaning the system. When I was testing with the fuel pressure gauge, the pressure was constantly 2.5 bar with the FPR vacuum removed. When stalling, the pressure was going up to 3.0 bar (which is how it should be on ignition).
    • ECUtalk pages don't mention they support the ABS computer (consult port has more than one CAN), so you might just need a different scan tool. But, I would expect ABS is a different light to the brake warning/handbrake light, do you see an ABS light come on for a few seconds when you turn the key from ACC to IGN? But since you said: I'd have a look at the ABS sensors in the rear hubs to make sure they are not damaged, disconnected etc.
