awww, those poor kitties!

OMG Andrew & I were driving home last night, and he has to go slow down one of our streets, as it's full of nasty speedbumps. Anyway, he saw 3 kitties on the side of the road. So he did a U-turn, and drove back up to where they were and parked so I could see the kitties. There was 3 of them. That means they were having a party!

A History of Pwned

As Stolen from Wikipedia, the Free Encyclopedia

The slang term pwn (not pown, as many people unfamiliar with the term may use) as used by the Internet gaming culture, means to defeat an opponent in a video-game in a manner so harshly it is (otherwise) indescribable in words. In this context, to be pwned can be defined as "to be defeated," with the strong connotation of also having been "made a fool of." It is generally used for "friendly taunting" of a player's in-game enemies, and gently "rubbing in" any victories, no matter how fleeting. Most gamers hold the view that to "own" someone is to defeat them well, but to "pwn" them is to hand them a decisive defeat in which one clearly triumphed, and thus, the word "pwn" is seen as the next step above "own". The term has become ubiquitous in Internet circles and now it is often used outside of gaming contexts. For example "We pwned them hardcore in that basketball game," or "that Spartan_Vice is such a n00b, he is constantly getting pwned." Its progressive form is "pwning." An example: "I was pwning like crazy!" Its noun form is "pwnage" (or "pwnge"). To make it more intense, some people use "pwntage," although the popularity of this term has changed over time. An example: "Did you see that flame war? PWNGE!" "zors" may also be added to create a humorous portmanteau of the word, e.g. pwnzors (also spelled xors or x0rz). Another variation that stems from pwn, is pwnai or pwnai'd, just like pwnage or pwnzors; pwnai is just a variation used to accentuate the base word of pwn, "that kid just got pwnai'd".

Theories about the word's etymology

The likely beginning of the meme is from the hacker scene on EFnet IRC circa 1994. The use of the word "own" in terms of victory over another predates its use in the gaming subculture. This accounts for the pre-existing proliferation of the word, which may then have been morphed into pwn through any of the following possible means:

* The term could have simply been derived from a common misspelling, with no significant event proliferating its use [1][2]. Instead, it is assumed that it simply began to spread as a result of fast typing, due to the proximity of the P and O keys on most modern keyboard layouts, and the tendency of gamers and net users to create and expand internet memes.

Pronunciation

Given the recent development of the word, and its primary use in written form only, there is no single accepted pronunciation of pwn. Therefore, pronunciation is mainly based on personal preference. Some of the common variations include (IPA pronunciation) [o.n], [p...o.n], [pi.o.n], [p.n], [pwin], [pun], or, most commonly [po.n] or pawn, as rhymed with the original own; ([o.n]). It can also be pronounced phonetically, as [pw...n.] (pw.n). Another pronunciation, [p.n], is used by many other players, although many online gamers believe it to be a false pronunciation. The main argument against that is that since pwn is probably just a purposeful misspelling of its parent, own, that it should still be pronounced as [o.n] or [po.n]. Some people also pronounce it simply as 3 letters, /pi./ ['d.b.l.ju:] [.n].

A History of Pwned

As Stolen from Wikipedia, the Free Encyclopedia

OMG what a waste of time. My belief was that 'pwn' came about becuase when you type fast, people generally tend to mess up those letters on the keyboard which use the 'weaker' fingers, such as the pinky or ring finger. Therefore, instead of typing 'haha owned!' they type 'haha pwned', messing the 'o' with the 'p'.

And I pronounce it owned, but add a p to the front.

dammit, i thought he was turning around to run over them :D

:O:( Fergus will get you bitch!

the original pwned actually came from a game, many years ago. like 10-15 years ago. no idea what it was called but when you killed the boss' it would come up with the words PWNED in the little explosion bubble thing. they found out later that they had just made a typo and meant to write OWNED, but it seemed to stick with people.

that is the true history of PWNED

i'm bored if you cant tell

fine, everyone go quiet then, i'll just have to SPAM you all to hell!!!

    • Initially I thought having a pair of Recaro seats would be a big bonus, it turns out these do get a little uncomfortable on long journeys (my fault, not the seat). I had a look through the GSM Performance website at reclining seats and booked an appointment to visit their show room. I got the Recaro Sportster CS for the R34 from here, was very happy with the service received so of course a re-visit was in order. Unfortunately the two Corbeau seats I had chosen aren't on display but they had 4 other options available. Two seats dug into my back, one dug into my legs and the other was perfect. I also found out that Recaro seats use a larger bolt pattern so some adaption was required. Luckily GSM offer some universal adaptors that should solve this problem. I searched the interwebs for price comparisons and Corbeau themselves were the cheapest at £300 cheaper (for the pair). I asked GSM if they could price match, unfortunately they couldn't. I later received an email saying Corbeau would honour them the same discount, but the purchase was already made. I did however order the brackets from GSM, both arrived on the same day. I started with the passenger side seat, knowing this was going to be a little trial and error. There are 3 mounting holes at the front and 2 at the rear on these JURAN Racing seat rails.  With the adaptor brackets mounted, the allen cap bolts started to push into the seat, NOT GOOD!  The rear mounting holes lined up but there were issues at the front. The holes were 1/2 hole out, so the brackets got a tickle with the drill to modify the holes. The supplied bolts weren't going to be long enough and a spacer was needed to stop the adaptor bars from bending. A local fasteners company supplied be with some nylon spacers and longer bolts (M8x30, although these will be replaced with 35mm long shortly) A before and after I pre-drilled the front bracket before making a start on the driver's seat to save some time. And in no time at all that was in the car too. The all black seats have transformed the interior and these are MUCH more comfortable. The only downside with the new Corbeau seats is I sit a little higher, but I'll happily accept that over discomfort. The Youtube video can be found here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wPyttKPktXA
    • All 3 I guess. The car came with the JASI Aero 4 door Type R Full Kit unpainted so this was one thing at the top of my list to complete then I noticed there were body panels parts for this kit so i picked them up along with some black mesh to fill in the front bumper and front side air vents. car is at a paint and body shop atm completing this work. Next I will be addressing the internal bells and whistles, great summer project I can do with the kids.  full interior removal - ,boys car sound deadening - pads and spray ,boys stereo, sound, lighting - Big 3, GTT or bigger alternator ,kids head lining - dye black add star lighting mod ,daughter. That's it for the next 5-6 months. I have some motor maintenance  work i have to plan out. oil filter relocation, gaskets, mounts. beyond that, mind is starting to turn over if i can use a DET intake plenum, block off turbo ports & pipe in a air intake.
