Ok guys, a few here have spoken of "watching auction prices" for Stageas, can you please give me links/accounts to these websites so I can do a little investigation of my own into the sales prices of a certain type of stagea..

So far ive looked at the one from http://english.auto.vl.ru/auctions/nissan/stagea/ but I am looking for more. I want to build up a nice rather largish database of auction details to compare.

Thank you all :P

why would I, i dont have the car yet?.....i dont even have the cash yet.

The car is going to put me in enough of a tight financial situation to not allow me to investigate modifications for a little while. There is always budget modifications though

yea you could always do a bit of homework first like i did.

First mod is the dump pipe front pipe and cat back for me ATM and a high flow cat. That will set me back for a while though.

I agree with budget allocation, phase the budget out for BOOZE :P . I did anyway i quit drinking and i find myself with loads of extra cash in hands but the mods to the car sucked it like a freaking vaccum cleaner. sighhh But i guess is the satisfaction you get from it i guess.

As I can afford, the only mods are going to be

- Apexi dumps/fronts (extended dumps)

- already got the highflow cat from my current car

- custom 3.5inch catback, straight through with no mufflers. Will see how that goes then probably add just a single rear muffler

- Apexi PFC

- Tune

All that will be under 3k and I should end up with ~250awkw

Oh, clutch too

But yes, got to focus on researching now etc, then buy the car, THEN dream.

as i remember u said that u were going to sell off ur current stagea and switch to a gtst? so now how come to a 260rs?

was RS4 -> GTT

now RS4 -> 260RS

GTT still RB25. RB26, easy to get mild power. Wagon practical and very sleeper. I am afterall only 19.

bloody 19 year olds changing their mind every other week :)

haha just jokin alex, i would go straight for the 260rs if u can as spending cash on the rs4 is only throwing it down the drain and wasting time if u plan on going a 260 in the future anyway. cut to the chase and go for it :D

good luck mate :)

Interesting editorial in HPI magazine I received today about the cost of GTR ownership "GT-Rs are easy to want, but not so easy to own"

It is maybe a little bit negative and is aimed at cheaper R32 models that aren't really that cheap once you spend 10k on fixing the engine... Basically pointing out that people can buy these cars but if the engine goes south then forget resale altogether, you will never get anywhere close to even. if 7-10k is spare change then it won't worry you, maybe if you can do all the work yourself it is a different story but not different enough for me. Maybe something to consider (I am sure you have thought about this Alex but others might still be romanticising things a little) Car will cost $XX, mods will cost $X then if it blows I will be up for $XXX and can I deal with that?

Personally I'd love my next Stagea to be a 260RS, they would be a completely different car to the RS4 but I will wait until I can "afford" it if you get my drift.

I hope I don't sound too pessimistic here but maybe modding, then having to replacing the RB25 is more realistic? I know the power isn't there and it's an auto!

How about buying a 260RS with a blown engine for peanuts and spending the savings on the rebuild from the start??? Or is that crazy talk or too hard?

Performance comes at a price I guess.

Cheers

Luke

Thats definitely the reality Luke, but like anything, if you bide your time and find a nice example there shouldn't really be too many problems. Not to mention the mods will be more basic than on an RS4 (because the RB26DETT is better in stock form).

I'm considering a S2 with an average engine to be rebuilt as an RB30DET (Neo), but I don't know; maybe we all want too much from a wagon? :teehee:

We all really are asking a lot of wagons.

Its hard to find a 260RS with a popped motor. They are no where near as abundant as a GTR.

I am going to spend time to find a good example, and no history/record, no sale.

I wouldnt by any means budget rebuild cash for a 1998 RB26...i mean, for a R32 GTR, rebuild money would definaly be counted.

In the end, the benefits of the RB26 are there is no real "upper limit" of power. You can take your time and from year to year making more and more and more power (granted you want to spend that much) RB25 really reaches a plateau around 250wheel kw.... then you start to spend the big money. As i said, 260RS+PFC+Exhaust+Boost = that power level...with plenty left.

In the end, the only reason I am going a 260RS is coz my car got hit. If it didnt get hit, id still have a bonnet i chopped up, a front bar i wrecked with a front mount install, a 1/4 panel which i had already dented etc.... the fact that someone love tapped me means i basically get a full new fornt end.

The only gripe i have with my stagea is the auto, brakes and seats. 260RS has all that stock so will be a lot less of a car for me to mod (meaning, less stuff will break as its more close to stock).

Ill see, ill definatly write up a comparison of cars when I eventually take the plunge. There may be a time when I am stuck with both as I want to swap some parts over and thats the only really easy way to do it, but i'll see.

    • Hello!  i just finished manual swaping my r34 skyline with a r33 rb20de box(RB71C)box  When the car is running it squeaks crazy loud and it was smoking from the gearbox area. The gearbox is fine it was tested. The clutch slave cylinder seems like it doesn't fully releases the clutch. I want to ask if this noise is from the throw out bearing or could it be the clutch assembly or disk att.xFliq87Gzw6kImKBVqDebXkj0fBqymk0JaYeP3_3SlM.mp4
    • A few small updates since the previous post and lessons. I decided to do a little interior light upgrade on the 110. I quite like the iilumo items, even if they're a bit of a premium over other brands. You'll also note the Stedi Fogs, that will go into the S15 fog lights as I needed to match the bulbs since I got the new ones earlier. I hope they fit as the body is quite a bit longer than your normal bulb.  Annoyingly, I managed to trip the fuse, which normally wouldn't be an issue until I located the fuse. I can't say I've ever come across this. I had lucked out that someone nearby had a spare, but oddly enough Toyota dealerships seem to keep this in stock. I ordered some to keep in my stash and as luck would have it, someone else nearby tripped the same fuse so I passed on the favour.  I also did a little service on the 110 ahead of some additional work coming up. It's been annoying that Goleby's stopped carrying this particular HKS filter for the 110, so now I need to keep them on order from Japan. I also took the opportunity to install a bash plate and number plate riser. The plate riser is such a cheap but nice fix to help really tidy up the car. I'm tempted to now also replace my headlights, on this car. Both items were from Project Aero.    I also needed to replace the rear tyres on the 110, and after trying to get it aligned learnt that I need to replace some bushes in the front end, so that's next.  Closing out this update with a nicer picture as always!
