im sorry for your friend but i really cant understand how someone would hand over 1k$ to someone who they have only talked to over the phone without at least investigating ways of making things safer - such as - registered and insured post or cash on delivery.... unfortunately u just cant trust people

  • 1 year later...

phew never been scammed... just lucky I guess!

I did buy a fuel pump from a forum sponsor that never arrived... it wasn't sent registered post but upon me contacting him to ask where it had got to the seller immediately sent another pump to me which arrived a couple of days later... he then said he would chase down the missing pump with Aus Post... that's pretty nice considering I could have just been lying that I never received it

Always pays to send it registered but sometimes the margins are so tight to be competetive in the parts market they try and save on the shipping etc

It is definitely a deception/fraud, in cases like this victoria police can't act as the offence takes place where the offender is which is Qld in this case meaning that investigation needs to done by Qld police.

I would suggest as other have get onto your bank and contact Qld police in relation to starting investigation into the matter.

It's simply not worth it for amounts under a couple of grand though Graeme, I had a similar problem with a Sydney resident. I had all the bank details, name etc. I lodged a report with Vic police who said they'd speak with the local police where the bank was located and nothing EVER happened, I didn't receive any correspondence at all. I called the bank in Syd and they could see the money sitting there and I applied for a reversal but get this - with Direct Deposit if you willingly transfer the money the recipient has to approve the request to return the money....yeah right. I can understand that there are 11ty billion petty matters like this for the police to deal with and that's why I think it's simply not worth it, they just don't have the time or care (well that's the impression I got).

My uncle (top victorian barister) has just written a book on avoiding the pitfalls of online business. It details how to safely conduct transactions like the ones mentioned above, and if things do go askew how to ensure a quick and legally binding solution. It is designed specifically to show you how to protect youself from ruthless traders trying to use the internet as a cloak of invisibility.

If you would like a copy the cost is only $100 + 10postage. Cheap insurance for those of us spending thousands on expensive car parts.

PM me you address details and i'll send you my bank details, once funds have cleared I'll express post the book straight away.

    • Seems like a decent result for a modded JZX110. They are bulky in comparison to the 100 and 90 models (which I'd prefer myself) but they are getting very few and far between here in JP these days. Thanks for the detailed review and the import process into the UK. I also have a car which I'm hoping to export from Japan at some stage so it's good to know if someone from the UK was interested in it. By the way the corrosion underneath is par for the course for cars which were located in/near the mountains or along the Japan sea coastline. They get huge amounts of snow every winter and the sodium chloride is used on the roads. Many cars have some kind of rubber like treatment underneath but they tend to limit it to the wheel arches underbody and fuel tank. Suspension arms and sub-frames will have similar corrosion to your JZX110 which is a common sight. See it all the time and car dealers here generally don't even mention it unless asked.
    • If the sound goes away when you clutch in, the 1.5/2 way diffs are just shit, and you are a normal person. The diff is likely "fine" but driving at anything under 30kmh is a violent horrible experience. It would be exaggerated with solid diff bushings and subframe bushings if you have those.
