Hi guys,

I need to get a small piece of pre-resined carbon sheeting. It must be real carbon. dont want any coloured weave, just the regular black/grey weave is fine. Could possibly buy some weave then just do the layers and resin myself but i'd prefer pre-fab. It's just to fill a hole in the centre console and will then use it to mount some switches etc.

Any help pointing me in the right direction would be much appreciated.

Richard

We've got some... bought off a supplier in Brookvale. If you want I'll get you the supplier details, otherwise tell me what size you want and I'll see if I can find some offcuts.

exactly like that! only just black/grey CF instead of kevlar weave, and also half that size (replacing the 3 gauge cluster).

but i'll take kevlar weave in a pinch if someone had some lying around (hint paul!). :D

i left some at Croydon's...ill ring em and see if its still there...ok

i'm excited. i'm going to use that space to mount the defi link controller and the dirtgarage D1 edition awd switch. and maybe relocate the ultra speed meter there too.

If that falls through, try going to a boat building place, there are a few around that make the sydney to hobart boats... We used to get their 'offcuts' to make our body work for a little SAE car. Cant remember who we used last year but its worth a shot, not something that comes to mind at first though is it!!

Do you have an oven? remember the pre-preg stuff needs baking!!

thank mate, yep i do have an oven. but i think a flat sheet that has already been laid and coated wont need any more prep work. just drill my holes and bolt it in.

Ahh yep, sorry i didnt realise it was just going to be a flat sheet that you want.

Good luck with it, post pics for general interest when you are done?

I am about to go to CRD myself, been speaking with a bloke called Jim, i need a few things done to my car. Hopefully within the next few days, things keep getting put on hold for me. I just want my car fixed, running nicely and back on the road

thanks for the kind offer Aaron. I'm going to chase up a lead tomorrow morning, but if they haven't got what i need i may take you up on that. we have some resin left and i guess i could just buy some regular fibreglass weave to make it 1 layer CF, 2 layer fibre...

I will let you know :P

BB

i may have sum left over if you want it, its only thin tho (1mm) carbon weave , guess can glue it to 2mm perspex to make it thicker, so yeh let me know if you need it.

aaron

Hi Aaron, if BB doesn't need it, I will take it. I need to replace a gauge panel and a POD heat shield cover so 1mm would be perfect. What are the dimensions?

:P cheers :D

Biatch,

There's a place in the same complex as UAS that does custom carbon fibre work... They were working on this 100% carbon fibre body race car the last time I dropped by.

The guy is very eccentric, but he does amazing work. He made custom sized sheets for this exact application for me a few years ago... Very cheap too. From memory I got him to do 3 layers of carbon (ended up being about 3mm thick and BLOODY STRONG), and a gloss top coat in double-din size, and it cost me about $30-40.

Can't remember the shop number, but I think the guy's name was Alan. John will remember the guy if you ask him.

    • Yes, I know🙄 but the sequential is not in my budget... don't want to reduce power neither, so looks like I'm stuck in the rabbit hole🤣
    • You’ll be very upset when you bust that too not to mention the gearing totally sucks. Don’t do it.
    • Is the panel filter one that is oiled? Have you ever cleaned or touched the AFM?
    • So.... the K&N air box thingo was too big, ended up gifting it to a mate, well, by gifting it he actually supplied food and beer at the pub,  which was nice, as it will not sit on a shelf in the garage for the next 10 years I did trim up some of the existing stuff to neaten it all up and gave it some wrinkle paint, unfortunately it currently has a used and abused mish mash of different types of hose clamps, 4 big fat T bolt type (shit), and a few normal clamps of vairing sizes and brands, but..... only until the 6 constant tension black worm clamps that I ordered from EFI solutions turn up next week Currently the current hose clamps are triggering me hard, LOL Is this the final version, probably not, I really want just 2 silicone pieces, a straight bit of silicone from the filter to the MAF is easy and will happen as soon as I head into Just Jap tomorrow, the problematic part is a 30° silicone bend from the MAF to the TB that I can connect the engine breather from the head, I found that there are bulk head fittings for boat bilge pumps that should work, but until I can get a 30° silicone bend the alloy pipe, and the 11ty thousand hose clamps, are there for the foreseeable future 4 hose clamps are golden, 6 are grudgingly acceptable, the 8 currently holding it all together is just taking the piss    I've also ordered 60 more retaining wall blocks for the front yard, I mis-gonculated the height that was required to get above the base of the Photinia's (red robin's) that are the hedge behind the front fence, currently it is 2 blocks high, and about 1/2 a block short, so going 3 blocks high will be above the base of the red robin's, and allow some room for mulch
    • It is the stock air box with the panel filter. Everything else is stock except the exhaust at this point, as I also went back to the cleaned 270cc injectors. I will check the RPM when the IACV is unplugged and report back.
