Well now that I don't have access to Victorian tradeplates, I can't slap it on the ae86 to drive it to track days n shit, so I need to tow the fcuker around... I can either molest the R32 or the A31, and being a family car the ceffy's gonna get the chop. Plus sometime down the track the widebody kit's goin on the R32 (eventually... lol) so I don't really want to have to chop it up to accomodate a towbar.

As the 86's a light rusty POS, it'd be a max of 1200kg (allowing 1000kg for the car and wheels and 200kg for the trailer). Can a RWD cef handle towing something like this?

Does anyone have a towbar on their cef? if so can you post some pics of the bar and where it mounts on the chassis? Also places where you can get em done, prefabbed kits if you know of any and costs if possible.

NISSAN CEFIRO

1990 to 1994 SEDAN

Vehicle Chassis No: A31

Towbar Serial No: 175

TB Code: NIA31

Tow Weight (Non-Braked): 500

Tow Weight (Braked): 1500

might be an avenue.

your a ledgend shan. i've also been looking at the possibilities of this as ill need to tow a light weight sailing boat in the near future with my ceffy. Only thing i'm questioning is the rb20 in the ceffy, don't know how it will go with the low torque, will probably be spooling up non stop. :)

Let me know if u have any luck finding somewhere in australia that make them. I remember hearing something about the s13 tow bar possibly fitting, but again not sure on that.

yeah, I'm a bit concerned about the ceffy being RWD and towing a car. Might have to end up using the R32 as its AWD... both of them are RB20's though... plan is to run it at extremely low boost when towing.

Its easy enough to get a prefabbed on from NZ so I might not bother getting a custom one made up in oz. Its a bonus that the tow ball is removable, so I don't have to worry about it looking fugly.

RWD is fine for towing. just make sure the weight balance of the trailer is right and it will be all sweet. eg don't put too much weight at the back of the trailer so it starts lifting the rear wheels of the car up if you know what i mean.

So getting parts in from NZ is generally a feasible option financially?

Trailer design and overall weight will play a major role. Especially when using a small (for towing) capacity engine. I think I read somewhere its ideal to have 80kg of weight pushing down on the ball. So dummy loading the vehicle, spares etc and marking where car sits for the best balance may be an idea.

i was thinking of using a towing dolly instead of a trailer more recently, that way i don't have to worry about the weight balance etc, and also its cheaper at $400 for a brand new unit compared to a trailer. Only issue might be front bar having to be removed each time i tow the 86, and also i'll have to go a little slower than with a trailer. I'll also have to worry about the 86's wheels turning too i guess.

apparently the car being towed must be rego'd or something... pfft... sif. might end up with a front wheel a frame or something, apparently if a pair of wheels are off the ground then the car dosen't need rego.

    • Hi. Sry iam not a mechanic and iam not at the car atm so i dont know 100% but they told they measure those and even try to change those. AFM they have two. Coils are new a they have my old one too. Plugs too. ECU...we have 25 NEO stock and Nistune 25 NEO.   But i dont know if any one those could be the problem and why/if/what can cause this, Only thing they did not check is fuel...but that walbro 255 is new(like 1,5 years)... That fuel pressure gauge idk...but i let them know Any suggestions?   EDIT: how can they know if it is like you say he ECU pull power when it reaches a specific boost level that is too high? Tha car has boost controler
    • Can you clarify what you mean by boost cut, do you mean it misfires both when under load (driving) and when stationary and out of gear? Or does the ECU pull power when it reaches a specific boost level that is too high (boost control issue)? Does it occur at idle with no throttle? When you say "the ECU is OK", what ECU is it and why do you think it is OK? Have you used the NEO ECU, and if so do you have a MAP sensor attached? Same for the AFM, why do you think it is OK? Do you have any way to put a fuel pressure gauge on it (even just a mechanical one between the fuel filter and fuel rail)?
    • Hi.. Just another problem. So maybe you can help. I(my mechanic) done swap from my RB20DE NEO to RB25DET NEO. Everything is OK but we have a boost cut. Coils/Plugs are ok...AFM is ok. ECU is ok. I have Walbro 255 but it "changed" sound few months ago(you can hear it ouside) you did not hear that when it was new(maybe faulty?) Sooo...what now? What can cause this boost cut? It is even when you standing still...
