gtr wont fit as different stud patterns but u could get an adaptor plate made, or the easier option is the greddy version for the rb25 i seem them for around $900 new from autobahn i think.

just remember the stock plenum is perfect for upto 450rwhp i think from the info ive heard from sydneykids posts so its not gonna do anything but make it look neater and im sure the factory plenum actually gives better response than the large greddy style ones, but i may be wrong. the greddy plenum has alot more internal volume to the stock unit. ive seen the gtr plenum modified for a rb20det engine and they actually lost power and response from the swap over from stock setup.

shorter piping does look alot nicer but i dont think it would be worthwhile in 99% of cases for just a slightly shorter inlet distance.

im sure gary will give his opinion soon enough :D

So, where would the battery go? I know i dont want a battery in the same cabin as me incase I roll over and get battery acid all over me.

This isnt a Silvia :D

Haha very funny.

You turn the battery 90 degrees you can fit the battery and piping in the same spot, well thats my my mate had to do on his 180. But ive looked at it on the stagea i think there is enough room.

hi guys,

what is your opinion on running the intercooler piping back under the cooler and up the same side as the air box. i have been told that in order to run it up the battery (driver) side i will have to install a smaller battery facing longways. As it is an auto dont want to run out of charge and have to get jump started. as i have already purchased cooler with pipe goung out either side do you think the bend back under the pipe will be too restricting?

Christian (PranK) had a GReddy cross-flow intercooler on his old Stagea, but I think it cost him a fair bit for the kit... You can kinda see it in this pic, and there might be more pics in his gallery, not sure. Car is currently for sale at Unique Auto Sports (www.nismo.com.au) here in Sydney...

I also intend to get/make a cross-flow kit when I do the intercooler upgrade, and am still exploring options as to how I'm going to go about doing it. I might just buy a cooler from a group buy or something and then get pipes bent up to accommodate the 180deg turn, or I might try and get a cooler and modify one end tank so it points downwards anyway, making pipework a bit easier. Depends on cost.

Can someone tell if there is much difference in performance or anything really between alloy pipes and stainless pipes?

Cause im tossing up between getting a kit with alloy pipes which would require me to cut a hole in the battery tray which is illegal here in melbourne unless you get an engineers cert. And there are not many places here that mandrel bend alloy to get a couple of the pipes custom made so i dont have to cut a hole.

I might just buy an intercooler and then get some stainless pipes bent up custom.

Ideas?

I was reading the latest autosalon, & noticed that the American Blitz R34 rb25 drift car (claimed 495rwkw) has the standard plenum with the intecooler piping running through the FACTORY holes + they are running a high mount! So thats good enough for me to do the same.

260RS has the intercooler pipe running thru a hole under the battery tray which has been cut in by Autech, not by factory Nissan

So does the 260RS get defected in Victoria, even thuo the car has passed SEVS??

Have you changed your wiper blades to a non Nissan brand? Because that’s illegal.

Have you changed the screws that hold your speakers in? Because that’s illegal.

Have you fitted non Nissan mudflaps? Because that’s illegal.

A tow bar? That’s illegal too.

Non Nissan globes? Yep, illegal.

Non Nissan battery? Bad luck,. illegal as well.

Non standard brakes pads? Very illegal

Ditto brake fluid, engine oil, gearbox oil, diff oil, washer additive…all illegal.

If you do a neat job, trim it properly and cover the sharp edges you won’t have a problem. It’s non structural trim, under the chasis rail, only there to keep crap out of the engine bay .

:) cheers :)

I dont think SK understands the extent of defecting here in Melbourne. They wont go as sarcastic as what he described, but they do (and have had many friends done) defect for things like not enough clicks in the handbrake, not enough water in the washer bottle, a loose speaker wire etc etc

Trust me, you DONT want to cut the chassis. I mean, the chance of a stagea being pulled over is almost zero but what about RWC tightasses when you sell the car. What if you return the car to std and you dont want a big hole there for the person to see it was demodified?

Talk to me, I told you I have a set of piping for sale.

I've learnt through hard lesson not to cut anything that isnt uncuttable these days (aka, replaceable)

Yes, a cop will still defect you.

You understand in victoria, there physically doesnt have to be anything wrong with the car, its just up the police mans discresion. Like, cant remember who but they got pulled over in a Stagea and the cop said "thats illegal", then they said "its factory", then they coped a defect for it being illegal darkness, then they went to a tint place and got a letter saying that its not tinted to lift the defect.

Mate, its f**king INSANE here... :)

cuting a hole through the battery tray or on the side ABOVE the chassis is not the chassis anyway

my 2c worth

if u are all soo worried come to perth they dont give a flying shit about anything as long as its done in a neat fashion and ive seen 600hp t04z rb26s registered and legal no worries :)

Cruisliner: thats is awesome, but like alex said in melbourne the cops have just gone over the top with defecting cars that are basically safer than most older model cars thats are on the road.

Alex: ill message you tomorrow

well my mate is currently making up a fmic for me, i got him the cooler core and he is going to weld up the end tanks for me with the inlet and outlet on the one side so i can maintain all the factory piping (its great being mates with a bloke who welds stainless for a living, for a carton of beer you get a lot of work done  )

Well i just bought a cooler the other day, i bought an ARC crossflow cooler suited to R33, on an R33 they bolt up to all standard intercooler piping so no cutting required of any kind.

But seeing as my car is a stagea there is a possibility that i may have to get one or 2 pipes made or the ones that come with the cooler adjusted to fit up to my pipes.

All i know is that it will be perfect for me because i wont have to modify the air box or air snorkel at all.

I will post up pics once i install it

Ps. Sorry Alex offer was too good to pass up lol

Any chance of sharing the price of that ARC kit, please? If not, or if you'd rather PM it to me, that's cool...

    • Take the value it measured as, and pick the closest range available that is above the reading on the screen.   Also, no point just testing the coils. Read what has been said again. You need to test all your wiring, everything.
    • Does the scanner do all the CUs in the car, or only the ECU?
    • @666DAN sorry to bring you and old thread.     I've got my de+t done and it's all running great other than 1 small issue.    Car has remained auto with the na auto and tcm, I've used a stagea ecu with. NIstune board and everything is great other than my gear selection on the dash. It illuminates park, reverse, neutral, 3rd and 2nd when selected . But nothing when in  drive or what gear your in when you pop it into tiptronic. I'm sure there is maybe 1 wire in the ecu plug I need to move to rectify this. Do ya have any ideas?     Cheers man
    • Well I recently changed my rear axles and was thinking if I bumped anything, I have been driving the car for a while now though... But it has been raining today so everything is wet under the wheel arches. Brakes feel fine and can't hear any of the metal screamers, I had a squeak coming from one of the handbrake drums but that seems to have gone away a while ago. I was going down a hill when it lit up and I did feel the abs bite for a second and question why it did it?
    • Correct. Um. I dunno. I haven't cared enough about the way that the NA cars work to know for sure. But..... The 33/34 turbo manual cars have an electronic speed sensor in the gearbox that outputs a +/- (ie, sawtooth AC) voltage signal. That is connected to the speedo. The speedo then outputs a 0-5v square wave (ie, PWM) signal that the ECU (and any other CU on the bus) sees. The speed sensor is NOT directly connected to the ECU. So here's the problem. Your new ECU expects to see the PWM signal, but must somehow be getting a direct signal from the diff speed sensor. Which would suggest that the wiring of the NA car is not the same as the turbo cars. I think you will need to spend some time with (hopefully the wiring diagram for the car) and a multimeter to see what is connected to what. Then, presuming I am correct**, you would then want to separate the ECU speed signal input from the rest of the car's wiring, and probably either buy a speed signal converter, or build one using an arduino (or similar). That would take in the speed sensor signal and output a scaled (and suitably rearranged) signal for the ECU. ** We shouldn't presume that I am correct here, because there might be something else crazy going on. I don't think you could convert the speedo to be fed from the gearbox sensor, because the pulse rate from that sensor is probably different to the diff sensor and then the speedo would read wrongly. And this also wouldn't fix the ECU's problem either, because the ECU doesn't want to see the gearbox signal direct either (assuming that they are all on the same wiring, for some odd NA related reason, see above caveat!) Does this help? Probably not. Can you make it work? Almost certainly. With the above work. You should buy a handheld oscilloscope from Aliexpress so that you can view these signals directly. Connect up the probes and drive the car. Show photos of the screen when drving at known speeds and connected to different places, and we'll see what we can learn about it.
