CR34TION
Yo, Anyone here got Xenon HIDs on there skyline... ? Does anyone know if the housing is different from standard or is it just the bulb? Do I have to change the whole headlight or just the bulb if I were to change to standard headlights? Cheers Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/12877-xenon-hid-lights/ Share on other sites
Assassin
I have Xenon HIDs lights on my R34... If you have the same one as me...the housing is completely different from a standard one...you only need to change the bulb...but the bulb isnt any normal xenon bulb...its a special one...you have to take it out and have a look. that bloody xenon bulb cost $700 per bulb retail...i got it at $330 cost price. I'm guessing if you were to change to standard headlights you would have to change the whole headlight. Jamezilla
I have Xenons on my R33. The whole lamp unit is different to non-Xenon models. Why would you want standard lamps - Xenons are cool Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/12877-xenon-hid-lights/#findComment-242511 Share on other sites

NismoR34
CR34TION, your head light assembly needs to be changed! The XENON unit is completely different. The part is made in Aus [especially for compliance] I think the brand is NIKOH. Speak to any compliancer, they should be able to source them if you want. Changing to a normal halogen globe wont work AFAIK! Cheers. Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/12877-xenon-hid-lights/#findComment-244287 Share on other sites

NismoR34
ok, the guy I bought my car off said they were made here, oh well, guess not then. BTW ylwgtr2 - how would you know what they are selling to us here in aus? for compliance? are you in aus or JP - your profile says yoko, jp  I checked the brand [oem] is ICHIKOH - i was close Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/12877-xenon-hid-lights/#findComment-247062 Share on other sites

Jamezilla
Pushead: Actually - that comment brings up something I heard recently... cops pulling over new euros (BMW, Audi, Benzo) for their Xenons? Now... mine are factory (may not be ADR though) but surely a new Aus delivered BMW would have lamps that comply? Anyone else heard of this? Might as BaronBohr - he has E36 with Angels and Xenons... pushead
Jamezilla: Good thinking actually.. yeah, but why is it part of the compliance to change the xenon's on the r34 when BMW are shipped with them here in aust?? weirdd... BTW: I want your bronze wheels! Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/12877-xenon-hid-lights/#findComment-247077 Share on other sites
Jamezilla
Hahaha - everyone wants my wheels The BMWs have Xenons as an option for $1800 (3 series) and Benzo for $2500 on C-Class... must be compliant. I guess it's one of those 'discression' things. Will let you know if it ever causes me problems with the hammers. Jamezilla
YlwGTR: Ah - very good point. The ones listed as options on the BMW and Merc are sold with the 'cleaning kit'. I guess that confirms mine as being 'non compliant' . Wont lose too much sleep over it though Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/12877-xenon-hid-lights/#findComment-247096 Share on other sites

I am happy with my headlights and xenons dont represent a worthwhile MOD imo... NismoR34
Originally posted by CR34TION nismoR34... are you still awaiting on your xenons from ballarat? how much u paying? UPDATE: I have just been offered the xenons for a straight swap-over...is it worth it? [i know they look good ;p] But are there any Significant risks? Anyone been in trouble with the authorities or just a rumour? [police, vic roads, epa?] ylwgtr: can you get the xenon bulbs cheaper than $330? Do you know how long they last for? And lastly, how much is a levelling / cleaning kit? I am familiar with xenon lamps used in "data / video projector technology" and most last for at least 10,000 hours these days, but i dont know about the "automotive based" lamps? For $330 they had better last a couple of years! Btw, to change / remove the headlight assembly you need to remove your front bar as there is ONE bolt underneath the bar [at each side] that needs to be unbolted to remove the light = pain in the butt! My car is sitting at home with no front end / headlights, it looks naked Btw part 2: I have never heard of a factory headlight bulb that needed to be replaced by removal of the headlamp unit [corrrect if wrong]. Being a "consumable" headlight / parker / indicator / brake bulbs are usually pretty easy to replace on ALL cars...[this does not apply to dashlights of course]. Parker stalk just needs to be rotated a 1/4 turn and it will just pull straight out! unless its rusted in of course...i think they were anti-clockwise... /end thesis thanks for the info ylwgtr!
