Hi - if you are interested at all.....

I went to have a look at an RX-8 at the showroom the other day. The top of the range RX-8 with leather has HID lights on it. And the way they are self-cleaning is that they have a little mechanism on the bumper that opens up and squirts water to the middle focal point of the headlight which washes any dirt from the headlight, thus cleaning it.

One question - will any old HID kit from Jpn fit the skyline R33 or R34? Or will they need to be custom built for the head light assembly?

I have put an aftermarket HID Kit in my R33 - just got it checked by the RAC who have verified that it is OK for road use.

HOWEVER, the lights are still pretty bright while driving - I suspect that a different headlight assembly may be needed ....?

Any one with an aftermarket HID Kit in their Skyline please PM me..

Im a bit lost here , but my cousin bLackR34 bought his gtt just recently and it is fitted with xenon h/lights . They have a switch on the dash which adjusts their position manually (im guessing they all do) and the guy we bought it of said he recently changed the globes but they werent expensive at all around $20 so some one is lying here . When they switch on they are a very distinctive color (like a bright white/blue) so im guessing they are still operating correctly , on a side note the h/lights actually have the word xenon printed on the inside of the lens so they are genuine . I was told that only a few cars snuck through with this type of headlight , is this correct?

They may have got through on the old scheme but not anymore. My car has them straight from japan, they came standard on all turbo models. I have asked my compliance agent to keep them but he wont have a bar of it. RAW's workshops have to much to risk these days so they are not willing to bend the rules. They have to disconnect or cut the high voltage leads from the power packs and modify the standard xenon light housing to fit the new halogen globes. I will be able to refit xenon globes but just have to reconnect the old packs and find some globes!

hey adsmax , is your gtt fitted with a nizmo kit? it looks like it in the avater as my cousins car looks identical to the one in your avater .

also will check headlights today , especially after seeing the photo of the h4 conversion from xenon h/lights in an earlier post.

my r34 got the xenons taken out when it was complied. ive managed to to obtain a xenon headlight set.. but no wires

would anyone know how much the wiring for the xenons will cost?

i think it used to have xenons on it when it was in japan, cos its got that level swtich inside the car...

but im quite sure that the wiring was all taken out when the standard halogen headlights were put in.

It is very easy to do the re-wiring provided the original looms are still useable.

Yes he means the silver box - it should have a yellow or orange hazard sticker on it and sits underneath the assembly.

what is RAC?

what aftermarket kit did u get?

did YOU use a different headlight assembly? or it just fit in the normal enclosure?

Anymore ppl put in aftermarket HID kits? which ones?

what is RAC? - I think you guys call them the RMNA or something like that. The guys that you call when you break down.

I have an aftermarket Bosch kit with H1 8000k Bulbs - the kit was on my car when i bought it from Japan, but unfortunately one of the HID bulbs was blown. It took extensive searching (6 months) and alot of dosh ($300 for 2 bulbs/globes) to get the replacements.

I DID NOT use a different headlight assembly - just fitted it in the normal assembly. They initially appeared to be too bright, but now that I have had them in for a while, I think it is more of a case of the light being different and superior rather than illegal.

I would like to hear from anyone who has HID Xenon kits in their cars and if they have encountered any problems at all...

CHEERS

hey guys , had a look at those headlights and yes they have been converted to normal H4 globes . I cant find the original plugs with the high energy sticker on it either :D . I can find most of the original plugs just dangling around though so all might not be lost and due to the fact that the lights arent designed for H4 globes at night they are very poor!

Hi guys,,

ok,, had a read through all the forums about xenon's on r34's.. but i'm still a bit confused,,

I have, A Bellof HID kit.. used to be on a r33.

Ok,, so i wanna know if, the Bellof HID bulb will fit straight into the r34 xenon headlight socket? or will i have to modify the xenon headlight socket to suit a h4 bulb? coz the Bellof HID kit use to fitt straight into the r33 h4 socket.

I can't figure out why my r34 didnt have xenons headlight.. its a 2000 GTT ,series II. Its only got the h4 headlights!!. The Bellof Kit, will fit into the h4 headlight,, but i want the xenon headlights.

Xenons would have been removed during compliance (self leveling and cleaning issue) So you have 4 door R34 headlights most prob, or R34 GT headlights. There were factory standard Xenons, so prob best to hunt around or some original factory R34 Xenons.

Just check whether the bulbs are the only thing different, does your headlight assembly have 'Xenon' written anywhere? Some places just changed the wiring/powerpacks for the globes. but i think most places replaced the entire assembly unfortunately.

I'm sure there would be quite a few places in Brisbane that would have R34 Xenons, seem to be quite a import capital up there.

nope,. they don't have xenon written on them,,, like i said, they are h4 headlights,, and i don't like the look of em,

, i.e thats y i wanna swap to the xenon headlights,, and see if the aftermarket hid bulbs will just fit straight in...

hopefully someone might wana do a headlight swap,, heheh,,

    • Yeah i found that alot of parts can be wrong or "very" hard to get the real right one. I already bought some brakes years ago on me "old" GT calipers and they were wrong too 😄  I told them too. Even send them pictures...but they said "EBC catalogue has them on my car... So i dont know what their answer will be. I call monday them and let them know that they are really not on my car. If they were they would be already on a car...
    • Welcome to Skyline ownership. Yes, it is entirely possible parts websites get things wrong. There's a whole world of inaccuracies out there when it comes to R34 stuff (and probably 33 and 32). Lots of things that are 'just bolt on, entirely interchangable' aren't. Even between S1 and S2 R34's. Yes they have a GTT item supposedly being 296mm. This is incorrect. I would call whoever you got them from and return them and let them know the GTT actually uses 310mm rotors. Depending on where you got them from your experience and success will obviously vary.
    • Hi...a bit a "development" on the brakes. I spoke to the guys where i get brakes from...and they are saying that 296mm EBC are for R34 GT-T. I then went to their site: https://www.ebcbrakes.com/vehicle/uk-row/NISSAN/Skyline (R34)/ and search for my car(R34 GT 1998 - it has GTT brakes) and it show me this USR1229 number and they are rly 296mm rotors... So now iam rly confused... The rotors i have now on the car are 310mm asi shown... So where is the problem? Does the whole EBC got it wrong or my calipers are just...idk know what?
    • Oh What the hell, I used to get a "are you sure you want to reply, this thread is XX months old" message. Maybe a software update remove that. My bad.
    • This is a recipe for disaster* Note: Disaster is relative. The thing that often gets lost in threads like this is what is considered acceptable poke and compromise between what one person considers 'good' looks and what someone else does. The quoted specs would sit absurdly outside the guards with the spacers mentioned and need  REALLY thin tyres and a LOT of camber AND rolling the guards to fit. Some people love this. Some people consider this a ruined car. One thing is for certain though, rolling the guards is pretty much mandatory for any 'good' fitment (of either variety). It is often the difference between any fitment remotely close to the guards. "Not to mention the rears were like a mm from hitting the coilovers." I have a question though - This spec is VERY close to what I was planning to buy relative to the inboard suspension - I have an offset measuring tool on the way to confirm it. When you say "like a mm" do you mean literally 1mm? Or 2mm? Cause that's enough clearance for me in the rear :p I actually found the more limiting factor ISNT the coilover but the actual suspension arms. Did you take a look at how close those were?
