OK so a while back, i started playing around with the settings in Nissan Datascan

Then it stopped showing the sensors, despite everything else working.. wasn't sure what caused this so tried playing around with the settings

i accidentally changed to COM port to 4, and now when i tart it up, it says "runtime error 8002: wrong port"

and then it closes down so i can't change back to COM port 1 !!!

i tried uninstallingthe program, resetting, then re-installing, but it retains the old settings rather than reverting to default settings!

can anyone help me??

cheers,

Warren

The port selection might be stored in the registry of your computer. An uninstall should clear the setting but may not. You could try running regedit and have a look around for anything that resembles settings for the Datascan software, but be vary cafefull not to F*ck with anything not related with the nissan stuff or you could screw your computer.

Alternatively the port setting might be stored in a .INI file some where on your HD. I have never used the software so dont really know for sure, but I write software for a living and those two places are where I would store such a setting. maybe searching for Datascan.ini or nissan.ini might yeld some results. Also have a look in "program files" for the install directory, there might be a datafile in there with the setting.

just guessing though, as I said I dont know anything about the Datascan software...

i understand the Datascan is on your laptop mate! :) and was just trouble shooting a bit !

Logicly i was thinking you may have altered a bios setting in the Actual Nissan ECU if it was possible. Maybe its not? as i am just guessing like GunMetalR33 stated.

laptop....

GunmetalR33 gave good advice for program trace removal . I will add that sometimes it may be called another name in the program files other than Datascan, example "NISSAN" mo.

use search registry for "Datascan" and install files by date if you get what i mean

*.ini , *.bat "*" being datascan related.

If your on Xp system restore.

Is there a free download ,Support, FAQ of it somewhere so i can work out how to reset it for you ?

oh hang on here it is!

http://home.curl.aunz.net/tpkolo/DataScan.htm

Read the SUPPORT SECTION it explains it perfectly

Update after install

Path to program files > C:\Program Files\Nissan Data Scan

registry serch > from commandline > run > regedit > Edit > Find > Datascan > remove values

FROM the WEBSITE

1. When I start the NDS software I get an error message and the application shuts down.

You have probably entered a wrong COM port number and ticked the "Auto connect to ECU" option. To fix the problem you will need to reset the registry settings.

* Go to start->Run and type regedit.

* Go to "HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\VB and VBA Program Settings\NDataScan" and delete the whole NDataScan entry.

* Close the Registry Editor and try running the software again. It will save the default settings to the registry file.

Don't tick the "Auto connect to ECU" option until you successfully establish a connection.

Warning: Take note of your Activation Key, you will need to re-enter it to activate the software.

2. When I click the Connect button I get an error message and the application shuts down.

You have probably entered an invalid COM port number. Try changing the "Port" setting in "Communication" to a port that you know exists.

i cant get past the key at the moment so thats as far as i go :woot:

    • Yeh I think i'll message an old contact i had for ages that manages his own tyre shop now.. n tell him what i want n work with him before ordering..  Got this 17x9 +30 Driftteks on 245/45/17 PSR Drag Radials on the rear.. They fit well - for your reference in future - Rear guards  have been lipped in & minimal to non flaring of the rear Gaurds.
    • If only it were that easy! I also needed to remove seats, shocks, brake calipers, send my car through a fence, and use measuring and ended up guessing because I didn't remove seats, shocks and brake calipers. It can be hard sometimes Can be a little more complex than 'just measure' if you want to truly measure the entire wheel through all of it's suspension travel. But if you aren't going for every last mm then yeah, you can check the space you currently have and guesstimate.
    • If you own a car, and it has wheels on it, and you know the offset of those wheels, and you have a measuring device, you have everything you need to work out if other wheels will fit.
    • Will this fit? but they are staggered set - RAYS 57DR SEMI GLOSS BLACK 18x8.5 +37 | 18x9.5 +38 5-114.3 STAGGERED SET   or If no go could just get a set 4's wheels of 18x8.5 +37 5-114.3 - would i run 8.5's 235s up front n 245's at the back if I do?   Thanks.
    • Put a clamp on your return line. I have a feeling it's sucking air, and introducing bubbles to your fuel. With a lot of fuel, less problematic. I'd honestly be redoing all the lines in the tank and clamps on everything.   Also, you've given two different answers to the same question: Asked if being followed by the police you could get down to use the whole tank, you said yes you could, so long as you keep off boost. However, you then followed this up that free revving, it would also cause the issues. I'm doubting free revving is enough to make any noticeable boost on what is likely a decent sized turbo.   So now I have to ask, can you actually drive it lightly and use all the fuel, or does it break up even free revving? Also, have you put a fuel pressure gauge on it? Can you hear the pump change noise at all when you're having this issue?
