hey guys my i found a HKS fconV the other day in my gtr it still has the standard computer and that wired as well so im guessing its a piggy back. Is it tunable? also there are two plugs on the back of it, what connects to them(inserted pic) ?

Thanks

dont qutoe me but i dont believe many tuners/workshops have the ability to tune a fconv in australia. maybe call a hks distrubotor in your stateto see who may have the software and ability to do so......

Sydney,

and bd4's are the ones to speak to.

but sas can borrow software and crodon too i beleive?

other than that its kinda like a fully controlable piggyback. the standard is left to control all the a/c and other things... i think!!

hks fcon great computer if only there were more people here to tune them

CRD doesnt tune the the fcon no more.

its not a piggy back at all, you can run it standalone but as mashrock said, the standard ecu is there for A/C and 1 other thing i cant recall

also are those 2 plugs male or female??

if they are female and small they could be the wires for the air temp and map sensors as they are an option

Also.

from what i have been discussing with the uk blokes.

the hks navigator pro can tune the fcon V pro.. But you must be updated to the latest version

i'm waiting to hear more on this topic and i'm waiting on a preview/video on how its all done.

the plot thickens!

bd4's can update your software to the latest they have..

i prefer to leave the tuning to the pro's

bd4's will promise you that if there is any probs with their tune later down the track for no apparent reason they will fix it for free

yeah when i have eveything all together. and i am in need of a tune i'm booking it in.

but also will get the navigator pro as its only 3-400 bucks. and also does a bunch of other things.

I'm sorry was it tuned in japan for australian fuel and all the mods on the car?

what is the price difference between retuning a standard ecu compared to a aftermarket unit??

have u had experience with both? if so please provide us with you breakdown of cost

well if you have access to a free dyno then congrats..

for everyone else?? can you provide us with a $$ cost?

and your worshop recommends a remap over a aftermarket ecu? good luck with that..

i have dealt with both senarios and can say from personl experience, both performance wise and cost wise.. and aftermarket ecu is the go

$595 for chip and $200/hr for dyno tune. Hmmmm let me see, compare development costs of a particular ECU made by a manufacturer for a particular car compared to that of an aftermarket ECU for a range of cars. I bet the devlopment cost for the aftermarket ECU to cover a range of cars is not within 1/5 of the development costs of the standard ECU produced by a team of engineers for that car.

When you've tuned both you can make that assumption and I've only come to this conclusion.

so what your saying is that a standard ECU is perfected over a long period of time by a team of engineers..

then you have a aftermarket ecu which is also reasearched, tested etc by engineers for a 1/5 of the time..

then you have some worshop who remaps a perfect ecu over only a couple hours supposedly making is better than what those engineers can?

fact: if a standard remap is better and more cost effective then why isnt it everyones number one choice??

Try reading it again - cant make it any easier to understand.

How many tuning shops in Australia know what they are doing or even have the ability to properly emulate and tune the factory managment? It is for this reason alone that it isn't more widely done. Remember nissans aren't the only cars that can be chipped or the standard managment reprogrammed.

are you trying to make your point or make excuses?

your right!! not many shops can emulate and in this case we are talking about skylines only..

what are the advantages again??

No. My point is I believe that the standard managment addresses all operating parameters of engine management better than most/all aftermarket ECU's.

    • You just need to remove the compressor housing, not the entire turbo. I would not be drilling and tapping anything with the housing still on anyways.
    • So, I put my boat on a boat. First of all, I'm going to come out and say it. Why is Tasmania not considered a holy goal, an apex that all road-legal modified cars go to, to experience? This place is an absolute wonderland of titanic proportions. If people are already getting club runs for once in a lifetime 30 person cruises to Tassy then I've never seemed to see it. It is like someone replaced the entire place with an idyllic wonderland for cars, and all of the people living there with paid actors who are kind, humble, and friendly. Dear god. After doing a lap of almost all of the place I've found that it's a great way to find out all of the little things that the car isn't doing quite right and a great way to figure it all out. All in all, I drove for 4 hours a day for a week and nothing broke. I didn't even need to open the engine bay. This is by all means a great success, but it has left me with a list of things to potentially address. I also now have a 3D printed wheel fitment tool which annoyingly hasn't got any threads in it to actually assemble it. I might be able to tape it together to check the sizing I actually want to use, but it'll likely involving pulling the shocks out to properly measure travel at least at the front, and probably raise the car while I'm at it, at least in the rear. I scraped on quite a few things and I'm not sure how else to go about it. I was taking anything with a bump at what felt like 89 degree angles. And address those 10 other tasks. And wash the car. God damn it is dirty. And somehow, the weather was perfect the entire time - And because I was on the top of Mt Wellington it turns out it was very much about to freeze up there. I did something I typically never do and took some photos up there in what must have been -10 and the foggy felt like suspended ice, rather than mere fog. If you own a car in Australia, you owe it to yourself to do it.
    • Damn that was hilarious, and a bit embarrassing for skylines in general 😂 vintage car life ey. That R33 really stomped. Pretty entertaining stuff
    • Hi, I have a r32 gtr transmission. Does any of you guys have an idea how much power it will hold with the billet center plate and stock gearset? At what power level and use did yours brake with or without billet plate? Thanks, Oystein Lovik
    • Saw this replica police car based on a Mitsubishi Starion XX parked next to a 'police box' (it's literally a box) in Hirohata, Himeji City in Hyogo prefecture the other day. It's owned by Morii-san who is a local Mitsubishi Starion enthusiast. According to a local radio station blog post, he always wanted to make a police car himself based on ones he saw in his favourite Manga comics.  As it's illegal to modify a car to look like a police car and drive on the road, Morii-san tried many times to get permission from Aboshi police station headquarters nearby. They refused initially by after they got tired of that they granted him permission. However, the car can only be displayed on private property and obviously can't be registered as long as the police livery is present. The car was completed at a cost of 1.5 million yen (US$ 10,000) in addition to the car cost. A location was chosen outside Hirohata Police box where the car can easily been seen from the street. Morii-san has two other Starion road cars, both widebody GSR-VRs.
