Hi Guys, I am having a little issue with my idle still. I have replaced my O2 sensor, cleaned and resoldered my AFM, Cleaned my ACC Valve and reset my ECU.

The problem is that it idles at 1500-2000rpm for about 5secs and then drops down to normal! It is an RB20det in an R32 GTS-t. I have quite a few mods but don't think that is relevent at this stage.

Resetting the ECU has fixed the problem before but it came back the other day after a big drive (400KM).

I am happy to reset it again, but I am guessing it will continue to occur and due to it fixing itself after a reset it should be electrical and I think it would be worth checking the ECU for error codes and might be able to narrow it down.

I have had a look but I have not found anything conclusive.

Can someone instruct me how to check for codes (is it a light that flashes a certain number of times and that number corresponds with a particular fault?) and could someone post up a list of the codes and their meanings? Any other help would be great!!

I have also read about a consult cable that connects to your notebook... This could be good, would this be a better option?

If I am able to get all the info it could be an idea to add it to the FAQ sticky.

Thanks guys!!

Todd

newkleer has a consult/lcd which displays the error/fault codes and can also reset them ... check it out ...

do you mean that your car does this upon start up ...

i had the same prob i was told to reset the ecu and then turn the car on and let it idle to operating temp ... then hold the revs at 2000 rpm exactly until the car makes this noise bout a min or so ... let the car idle for 30 secs then turn it off ....

leave it to cool turn it back on and see if the prob is still there :ninja:

its only on a cold start isnt it?

The problem happens ALL the time. Not just when cold or first starting.

I can drive solid for an hour and stop at the lights and it will idle at 1500-2000rpm.

This is most anoying when in traffic and you are bumping along at low revs but every time you put your foot on the clutch it jumps up.

    • There's a good German place in Brisbane if youre up for the drive 😛
    • The German place in Cabramatta was rock solid, fresh pretzel cooked to order back then. Then it went all quiet, after all the poker machines were removed, then I believe it closed for good. I did drive past the other week and noticed outdoor lighting a big screen, but no idea what is there now.
    • Yeah I suspect even if you hold airmass per cycle/cylinder constant if you get too far away from stock you're still going to have problems running the factory tune within the bounds of the factory load scale. Cams, different displacement/rod ratio, etc. I'm just lucky that the GTIII-SS with wastegate boost + CA compliance cats is pretty much equivalent to stock turbos. When I have actual space I can finally get it tuned and modify the fuel system for flex fuel to 100% handle any detonation concerns when cranking the boost to whatever those dinky turbos can put out.
    • I would say no, why, because my daughter, who also lives in Goulburn, hasn't recommended us going there Pity, as we miss all the German joints around in Sydney, actually, the restaurants are the only thing I really miss about Sydney, and a special mention to Ishibanboshi at Bondi Junction, their Kara-age Don is heart cloggingly deliciousness (always added a special boiled egg...or 2) 😋
    • Does that German restaurant still exist in the old place out the NW end of Goulburn? When I say "out the NW end of"...I am really being vague. It was 1997 when I was last there, and the only point of reference I can recall is that it was on the opposite side of the main drag from the big merino. And when I say "opposite side of the main drag", I don't mean "on the main drag". It was either a couple of streets back from there, or might have even been out in the sticks a bit further. Was an old farm building or mill or somesuch. And when I say "the big merino" I might actually be thinking of a completely different part of town, because I just looked on maps and the big bugger is not where I remembered him to be! The food was good, consisting largely of various German mystery-meat sausage/loaf things and kartofflen.
