I've been trying for a while now to get some used semi's from the well known Gordon Leven Tyres. It seems that they never have any stock!? Every time I call they say "Nah well we haven't got much at the moment mate"... I try in a weeks time, and still nothing. This has been going on for months..

Have people had luck in the past just ringing up and getting the size they want? or is it just pot luck?

I might just have to stop being a cheap-ass and buy some new ones! :D

just buy some new ones mate. unfortunately you cant rely on people having second hand race tyres in stock. the performance on new vs used is a big difference too.

try gary's motorsport.

You need to call Gordon on the monday directly after a race meeting because they go pretty quickly.

Myself and a coworker do deliveries their so whenever I do the delivery I just take a look. Generally 15 and 16's are the go with 17 and 18's harder to get.

I'm after 235/45R17 x 4

As I understand, the V8 Brutes use this size, but they dont race in NSW all that often :)

Thanks, i'll give them a call! Hehe yeah very true you can't rely on them having constant stock!

I got a set of Advan A032R's from them at the beginning of the year in that size. They don't get them that often, so its best to hit them up at the end of a race season, or right before the beginning (for people who keep the old tyres for testing and get new ones for the beginning of competition).

As others have said, try Gary's to score some second hand Dunlops.

The other thing is to show up to a race meet, like the State Championships. Garys and Gordon Leven will have their trucks there doing tyre changes for teams, and they might get a case of the CBF's when it comes to carrying near-dead tyres back to the shop. They might just leave them at the venue, but if you go during the day (especially on Sunday since that's race day) they might still have them around.

A mate of mine said he saw the tyres from the V8 BRutes being added to the Wakefield Park tyre walls after a weekend, and the guys at Wakefield said anything in the pile was free for the taking. Some were in reasonable nick (for a free tyre), but he didn't have room to grab me any.

The next round of the NSW State Championship is on at Eastern Creek on 23/34 September. I strongly suggest that you go out there Sunday around lunch time and walk around the tyre suppliers. That’s where/when you will find the best used tyres from that race meeting.

:D cheers :D

PS; it’s the last round for this year, so don’t miss it.

    • Even more fun, leave all the ADAS stuff plugged in, but in different locations, hopefully avoid any codes!   And honestly, all these new cars with their weird electronics. Pull all the electronics out Duncan, and just shove an aftermarket ECU and if needed a trans controller in, along with a PDM. Make it run basic but race car styled!
    • To follow up a question from earlier too since I had the front bar off again (fking!) This is what is between the bumper and the drivers side wheel And this is the navigator side, only one thing but its a biggy! So basically....no putting coolers in the wheel arches without a lot of moving other stuff. Assuming I move to properly race prepping this car I'll take that job on and see how the computers respond to removing a whole bunch of ADAS modules
