HI ALL

Well i finally got arround to fitting my FLYEN dump pipe, the bellmouth one. I have new gasket on the turbo to dump no goo or anything, one of them proper gaskets form Nissan, but old ones on the cat.

Now for two days it was fine, but now, when you start it, it almost sounds like there is an exhaust leak somwhere, but inside the pipe, does it when warm too.

I have gone through all the bolts, all nice and tight, cheacked for leaks, can't feel anything, anywere. turbo, cat, manifold, all good.

The car still pulls like it did, no loss of power or anything.

You can't seam to hear it directy outside but more inside, like inside the pipe. I am thinking that now that the O2 sensor is more in the flow of the turbo, maybe that is making the sound.

I am going to get new gaskets for the cat, and put them in, just to make sure. But has anyone else had a simmilar problem to this?

ANYONE?

and o2 sensor wouldnt make that noise.

generally when something sounds like something, it is the thing it sounds like. its not like chicken where everything tastes like chicken :D

you say you have tightened the bolts and nuts, have you tightened the o2 sensor?

an easy way to see if it is leaking is to get a mate to cover the exhuast tip and seal it up with a rag over his hand. do it when cold to prevent burning him. this will so if there is a leak and where it is. go under the car and feel with your hand around all joints and connections. you ll feel if it is leaking

Its not unusual to get more noise when you go to a larger diameter dump and front pipe...what you're hearing is probably resonance from the air in the pipe...also the dump you have is thinner than the stock cast iron pipe so you'll hear more too...i got the same noise on my last 2 turbo cars when i changed the dump pipes...sounds good if you ask me...so don't worry about it...

The problem is the hydraulic cylinder mandates that the back of the jack be a certain height and Skylines have fairly deep inset floor jack points. A more certain and cheap option is to get some nominal 2x10 inch lumber boards and have one board be 1.5 feet, the other board 3 feet. Glue it all together with lots of clamps to maintain pressure. Make two of these. The ramp suggested above is a good idea, it takes quite a bit of clutch slip to get over each of the boards. I only need the first ~1.5 inches for my low profile jack on a standard ride height car but a lowered car you want to go up to the full ~3-3.5 inches. Paint it or store indoors if you want it to last.
    • Ok. And Nistune? I read (here too) mainly on Stagea threads that it can by "turn off" with Nistune. But they say they still had the sensor plug in. Next week iam going to the Nistune(and other ECUs) tuner so i can finally make it work. I drove the car home and apart from the cut it drove great. No misfire no smoke no hesitation or rough start...so hoping it is this sensor that is missing
    • I just stack 2 pieces of 200x50 timber on top of each other. Total length about 900mm, with the top one being a little shorter and both having a 45° angle cut on them to make the front edge a bit of a ramp. Put these in front of each front wheel, drive up on them, throw the trolley jack under. Takes 1 minute. Scissor jacks can eat a bowl of dicks. I never use on under my car unless desperate.
