I don't know if you know already, but for your info if you need one urgently, the Australian R31 Series 3 (late '88 - '90 model) manual box is the same as an R32 GTS-t RB20DET gearbox, so that could help you out.

Perhaps you've bee looking at the series 1/2 boxes?

If not it's posible that the casings are different, but I'm under the impression that the internals at least are the same

Pics of S1 and S3 R31 boxes.

From what I heard, pretty much the same, only thing different is a couple of the ratios are different cos rb20's like(have to :spank: ) to rev.. And I heard synchros where the same.

Market value is $150-$200, I wouldn't pay much more R32 RB20det box, maybe $50 more. Remember they're old, and no way near as good as rb25det boxes. You guys pay to much for shit.

found this in the drivetrain section :P

FS5W71B L SERIES,CA (PRE TWINCAM)FJ20,

FS5W71C single syncro. RB20e,rb20de,rb30e,REDTOP RB20,LATE FJ20ETrb25de,ca18de,sr20de

FS5W71C twin syncro RB20DET,SR20DET,LATE CA18DET

FS5R30A SINGLE SYNCHRO.vg20det,vg30e vg30et,rb30et

FS5R30A TWIN SYNCHRO, VG30DET,RB25DET,RB26DETT.

fs5r30a pull clutch. 33gtr late 32gtr,rb25 neo

they are different.

the R31 series 3 had the FS5W71C single syncro. and the RB20DET had the FS5W71C twin syncro :(

the R31 boxes do not last very long behind a rb20det if thrashed...

Interesting, people always told me the codes were the same but revs changed between boxes so that would explain ratios. So rb20det boxes are twin synchro all through the gears instead of just 1st and 2nd. Anyways, mondale(bluprint will know) got his rb20det manual box for $200, in canberra.

$200 would be good :ermm:

    • List all of your mods. It sounds like an aftermarket ECU hitting rev limiter. Like a valet mode, or a cold rpm limiter?
    • @Kapr Haha yeah thats the one. I missed that you had a built up engine, I wouldn't want to run it on there either then. It was good in my situation just to replace the original turbo on a stock engine. @MBS206Yep definitely not a replacement for anything name brand
    • You are selling this? I have never bought something from marketplace...i dont know if i trust that enough. And the price is little bit "too" good...

    • It would be well worth deciding where you want to go and what you care about. Reliability of everything in a 34 drops MASSIVELY above the 300kw mark. Keeping everything going great at beyond that value will cost ten times the $. Clutches become shit, gearboxes (and engines/bottom ends) become consumable, traction becomes crap. The good news is looking legalish/actually being legal is slighly under the 300kw mark. I would make the assumption you want to ditch the stock plenum too and want to go a front facing unit of some description due to the cross flow. Do the bends on a return flow hurt? Not really. A couple of bends do make a difference but not nearly as much in a forced induction situation. Add 1psi of boost to overcome it. Nobody has ever gone and done a track session monitoring IAT then done a different session on a different intercooler and monitored IAT to see the difference here. All of the benefits here are likely in the "My engine is a forged consumable that I drive once a year because it needs a rebuild every year which takes 9 months of the year to complete" territory. It would be well worth deciding where you want to go and what you care about with this car.
