That line on the top is supposed to be for the oil return on the bottom of the turbo. The top is for oil feed and the bottom is for oil return. In other words, someone has turned the compressor housing and exhaust housing and has made all of the oil and water lines upside down. Pretty odd how they have done it because it would have been a fair effort to get that banjo bolt into the oil return aswell.

Turbo will have to be pulled off and all of the nuts around the back of the compressor housing and exhaust housing need to be loosened off and you need to spin the housings around the right way.

BTW i would stop driving the car the way it is.

Ok I'll install the stock boost controller back.

Yea the panelbeaters mechanic installed it for me.

Was worried if they knew what they were doing.

I'll post that pic up tomorrow once I get a chance to jack it up

Going by the picture, could it be anything to do with the turbo?

Hopefully the thing is installed. Actuators maybe?

Can anyone tell me if this is right? I have circled it on the picture below.

The cartridge is the right way up.

These are the way that the Garrett cartridges are made.

The oil feedback and the intake will not line up if you were to try to spin it as on the other side there is no thread and it is pure drain back using the stock return pipe.

I would just take it to a knowledgable mechanic to save time with guessing.

There could be many things happening for a guage to read 0

i was just curious as to how having the oil lines upside down would have an affect? unless there is a 1 way valve wouldn't the oil flow through it anyway? since it is being pumped.

but if they tapped a thread into it to suit the banjo fitting then where does all the swarf go?

have any of your turbos got a 2 hole flange top and bottom.

ie to suit the oil drain top and bottom?

Just got this checked out by a specialist.

He told me that the turbo seems to be installed fine.

The bad news he told me is that the turbo isn't even spooling.

Getting it removed in 2 weeks since he's pretty busy next week.

He wants to have a look at whats wrong with the turbo and why its not spooling at all.

I'll get back to you guys on how this goes

Ive never seen a garret catridge that has looked like that.

My guess is that when installed the guys i spoke to that had no idea about installing it did not do the oil line modifications as instructed.

Send it back to me with the bolts and oil line mate and ill check it out :P

The only reason the shaft would have seized is if they were not done and the bearings were starved of oil or something has gone through it.

They really did have a seriously hard time understanding what i were talking about and i had a feeling it would come to this even when they had the instructions in front of them.

Edit: Just read your PM mate and replied :)

EDIT: Conclusioin.. was found to be the installers pressed the split dump pipe into the turbine and stopped it from spinning.

    • Hi guys, long time no post as per usual! It's been a busy year so far, the biggest thing being a new job.  After 28 years in the automotive industry I decided it was time for a change.  I was losing faith in the industry and where it's heading.  Now in a completely different industry (electrical) working for a company that manufacture water pump contollers.  Not as sexy as cars but it's an interesting,  challenging industry. I now don't work Saturdays which is a bonus!  It's still 50-55 hours a week but having Saturdays ack after 28 years of working them is awesome!   No news on the GT-R but i did decide to add some more JDM goodness into my life....           1990 300 ZX.  She's not perfect but for a 35 year old car she ain't bad!  Just going to tidy it up a bit and enjoy it.  It's currently auto but will start stockpiling everything for a manual swap. It WILL distract me even further from the GT-R but im hoping not for too long! It somewhat proves a 6'8" freak can fit in a 300 ZX.  Sort of...  I drove it home from the previous owners house in Melbourne via Black Spur and Merton Gap (2 awesome bits of Victorian twisty road) and it was amazing!  Handles so well!!!   I don't think it would be worthy of a full build page but I'll post up some of the upgrades here if anyone is interested?  Cheers guys!
    • End game is to: - Remove all the slop from old worn parts - Adjust setup so that the wheels actually fit and the car is drivable (currently it is not because of the extreme rubbing on the guards).   Progress over the last couple of days, removed the rear hubs! Next steps: - Buy bushings - Replace bushings/bearings on hub - Reinstall

    • A few random issues have popped up since my last update. My WMI pressure sensor failed within about 10 minutes of it seeing liquid. It was a 20$ China special, so I'm not surprised. My name brand replacement should arrive today.  My power steering assist also decided to crap out last weekend. The usual, works for about 60 seconds after starting the car then I lose it. I dusted off my old copy of NDS and connected to the HICAS ECU. Code 4 for assist solenoid.... I tested the solenoid and it's fine.  I knew the day where my HICAS ecu would crap out would come, and I welcome it. It was the last HICAS part on the car that is now in the bin. I've ordered an SSR and I will control the power steering solenoid with my Haltech ecu. It will be nice to have proper speed referenced assist again after all these years.
