Hey guys,

Having abit of an oily situation at the moment. It seems where the gearbox connects to the motor, there is an aparant small leak of oil, which ive just recently noticed. It also appears to be motor oil, rather than gearbox oil.

Oil levels in the car are fine, however ive been told this could be the rear main seals. Which im not too sure what is meant by this. Excuse my ignorance.

If so, is it an expensive job to fix up? How much longer should I be driving like this?

Any help would be appreciated. Car is a S15 with sr20det

Thanks

it more than likely is your rear main seal.

check if you're leaking from the back of the head too. your half moons or rocker seals could be worn too.

to get to your rear main seal you'll need to take your gearbox off.

the rear main seal sits in the rear main seal housing, not all cars have this housing but this is how it was on my car (rb25det).

i had to undo bolts off the sump then some 10mm bolts holding the housing in. you wont need to undo your sump completley, those four or so bolts should do.

make sure you use some gasket maker like ultra blue or ultra black when putting the new main seal in, one of them is the higher oil resistant one, so use that. use some more on the bottom of the housing to seal it between the sump.

the main seal cost me around $20 with the sau discount from nissan.

will most likely be the rocker cover gaskets at the back leaking and dripping down. best way to go about things to be sure is clean it all down with degreaser and and then check it daily to find the fresh leak then you will be able to tell were exactly its coming from.

ditto, they can be sneaky

Mine looks the same and I've got a rocker cover gasket leak, just drips down in a scary spot is all hehe

worth doing as the others said and cleaning it, checking for fresh oil, but do it soon because if it IS a main rear seal you dont really wanna drive on it and risk doing your clutch in.

He said it looks like the car is running a restrictor plate or something of that nature. Luckily the last dyno pull on E85 was saved to the PC - So I did a quick trace of Barometric KPA vs Intake manifold pressure, and lo and behold I see a copy of the 'waves' I was seeing on the dyno: I'm not entirely sure how to go about addressing this. It may be worth sacrificing IAT to run a more direct intake for the motor. Though packaging this could be flat out impossible given the constraints of the car. I should have removed the intake pipe to see if this made a difference but looking at this graph I now have something to potentially test in the future and think about. This one is from an old track day log in the OLD setup going through gears on track.
    • Oh, I forgot too, all the multimedia stuff captured and sold through things like people playing Pokemon Go. Pokemon Go specifically, can actually be traced all the way back to a CIA investment company too. So yep, they're watching everything. Not to mention the new stuff where they've worked out how to use WiFi signals to be able to map occupants inside of a building. That one would be something that I see being more used in public/government buildings, as you need to understand the signals when the room has no one in it first. It's not as easy as Hollywood would like you to think it is.
    • Followed ☺️ Assuming those are NEO rods, then at least 400kW all day.
    • Lets keep this going , Spotted this very stock V35 in Penrith and also saw a nice R32 FLY past me on Castlereagh rd , sounded really good.
    • Great work! Give it a clean up with some Emery paper, and I'd run a thread die over the threads too to clean them up. It will make reinstall much easier, and also life easier for the next time it needs to come out.
