Should be getting my exhaust soon and was wondering if it is necessary for wastegate integration as part of the system.

If there is no wastegate integration is there a chance of blowing the turbo up and has the stock exhaust got this integration.

Dont really know what Im talking about so please let me know.

But with a wastegate pipe it improves............ the flow and reduces turbulence just after the turbine

turbulence i s the disruption of air ... if you have turbulence, then the air flow is not linear, and if the air isn't all going one way at the same time, you'll have a reduction in the flow and and increase in restriction

I recently got my dump pipe done and its been a fantastic improvement. I went with a single pipe with a really wide opening at the top. Having had a look at the standard pipe its obvious how much better this is. The stock one on the 32 has a cast iron flat section just about blocking the wastegate area off... its horrible.

A larger single pipe is probably enough for most people. And theres little guarantee it will be better if you buy one with a separate wastegate pipe. This is because it may rejoin too early or too late causing similar turbulence issues within the system.

You'll see improvements either way, however the difference between the 2 styles of dump pipes probably cant be felt on an arse dyno (only a real one).

I'm geting my exhaust done next week. I pikd up a exhaust housing gasket, $20 and have since taken to my exhaust guy. He is going to weld up a new plate and incorporate in a seperate wastegate dump.

the dump off the back of the turbo will be a rapid increase to 3', the wastegate pipe will be 1"1/2. The exhaust guy has recently done something similar to another GTST, but the wastegate pipe entered the system down near the cat convertor.

My question is - "is this TOO far back? I know the further back the better. But we are talkin about 1 - 1.5m here".

"should I also thermal wrap any of the dump pipe???"

btw full 3" zorst turbs bak with hi flo cat and rear muffy etc etc..

opposed to GTS-t VSPECs whos comes in at a right agle :)

Whether apart of the normal exhaust or a seperate screamer pipe, that joins back into the main exhaust at any section, or not at all.. wont hurt your turbo..

Id say the ultimate is an exhaust dump, one pipe with a secondary wastegate screamer which never enters back into the main pipe. Thats my next goal when the exhaust comes off..again.

    • Sounds good.  I don't 100% understand what your getting at here. When you say, "I keep seeing YouTube videos where people have new paint and primer land on the old clearcoat that isn't even dulled down" do you mean this - there is a panel with factory paint, without any prep work, they paint the entire panel with primer, then colour then clear?  If that's what you mean, sure it will "stick" for a year, 2 years, maybe 3 years? Who knows. But at some stage it will flake off and when it does it's going to come off in huge chunks and look horrific.  Of course read your technical data sheet for your paint, but generally speaking, you can apply primer to a scuffed/prepped clear coat. Generally speaking, I wouldn't do this. I would scuff/prep the clear and then lay colour then clear. Adding the primer to these steps just adds cost and time. It will stick to the clear coat provided it has been appropriately scuffed/prepped first.  When you say, "but the new paint is landing on the old clearcoat" I am imagining someone not masking up the car and just letting overspray go wherever it wants. Surely this isn't what you mean?  So I'll assume the following scenario - there is a small scratch. The person manages to somehow fill the scratch and now has a perfectly flat surface. They then spray colour and clear over this small masked off section of the car. Is this what you mean? If this is the case, yes the new paint will eventually flake off in X number of years time.  The easy solution is to scuff/prep all of the paint that hasn't been masked off in the repair area then lay the paint.  So you want to prep the surface, lay primer, then lay filler, then lay primer, then colour, then clear?  Life seems so much simpler if you prep, fill, primer, colour then clear.  There are very few reasons to go to bare metal. Chasing rust is a good example of why you'd go to bare metal.  A simple dent, there is no way in hell I'm going to bare metal for that repair. I've got enough on my plate without creating extra work for myself lol.
