I"M POSTING THIS BECAUSE SOME PEOPLE ARE SAYING ONE THING AND OTHERS ANOTHER

this is the "new victorian graduated licensing system"

i got some info from vicroads today....

*note! check with vicroads for full info and not to take this as the full new laws*

WHEN

  • alcohol interlock (read below as to what) - january 2007
  • the new L plate requirements - july 2007
  • the high powered vehicle restriction for P platers (read below) - July 2007
  • the new P1/P2 plates requirements and new driving test (read below) - july 2008
    SOME KEY CHANGE"S
    L plates...
    • must have 120 hours of experince including 10 hours at night
    • no use of moblies, hands-free or hand-held or any messaging of any kind
    • must carry learners permit whlie driving (duh)

    ****P plantes*****

there will be 2 P plates introduced... P1 and P2 (sounds alot like b1&b2 )

    P1 plates...

    • P1 drivers are on the P1 plate for 12 months(if over 21 yr's old then you go stright to P2 plates, only if u had ur L's for 12 months
    • MUST have a good driving recored to progress through each licence stage. A POOR DRIVING RECORD EXTENDS THE P1 AND P2 LICENCE BY ***6 MONTHS***
    • for P1 drivers, towing is not permitted except for work or under instruction
    • new HIGH POWERED vehicle restriction will prevent P platers from driving vehicles with :
engines with eight or more cylinders
      turbocharged or supercharged engines
nominated high performance six cylinder engines
engines that have been mod'ed to increase performance

***People who are over 26 and still on there P's****

    • ALL drink drivers (and first timers) will have to fit a alcohol ignition interlock when relicenced, for a minimum of six months

    VEHICLE IMPOUNDMENT

if a driver intentionaly makes the care lose traction or unsafe behaviours (eg.. speeding, draging)

there are now provisions that allow police or courts to impound a car...

repeat offenders will have there cars' impound time will be longer and will be possable for the car to be forfeited.

All good laws i say.

I dont care, I'm off my P's.

I couldnt afford a turbo car when i was on my P's, and I'm f@@king glad i couldnt. Else I would be dead, and I'm the safest driver I know of... there are a lot of dickheads out there.

Impounding cars?? What a fantastic idea, get all those hoon dicks off the roads.

but i do agree that more has to be done on creating a better licensing system, i know of people getting their P's with less than 10 hours experience in only the best conditions. and they have all had accidents since.

I had over 200 hours experience before i got my Ps i think. 120 hours is a good amount.

They will if you decide to change cars, that is to a turbo/v8 car

Yeah, but i'm happy with what i've got. Goes well, handles well, comfy seats. If i want another million kW i'll hook up some neons and get a no fear sticker.

And Rhett, i'm with you. But maybe instead of banning stuff, make getting the appropriate licensing tougher so dickheads don't get it, and the ones that do know what they're doing.

You'll have to bring the logbook they give you when you get your L's to your P's test. And it'd be a legal document, so there'd be penalties if you got caught fudging it.

i just want to clear 1 thing up

these laws will apply ot new P platers

in other words... i have to go on the new P plates :)

it sucks but i have to do it :S

oh well

Can any one answer and of my questions on the previous page? Got me worried now, had my heart set on a a gtr once i hit 21, now i might still be on my p's when im 21?

Also, theres way to many 40+ skyline drivers in my opinion having a whinge about kids these days -_-

are you on your P's right now? because if you are, these laws do not apply to you. It's been said many times..

its a legal document now... and alot of ppl bullshit about it

oh well

sucks to be you then

to correct you on your previous post as well... an R33 gts-t is not legal for P platers to drive.

also wtf, who are u insured with? im 19 on P's and drive an R33 gts-t and i pay 2,000 full comp with just cars :P

iam glade i finsh in two months then

bad luck for those new p platers

but it will get rid of those arseholes who cant drive and think there a bloody race car diver on the roads

Edited by sky high

well if u have any bro's or mates that are younger then ya... like in ur 10 or less then they'll have to know about these laws

they suck

it was just people that cant control a car but they think they can do any thing...

*coff*commadore drivers*coff*

well like meny things in life.... other people stuff it up for the rest of us :P

The problem being the ones who would fudge it are the ones you want to stop being on the road in general. The honest ones will largely (I suspect) be the ones who are mature enough to own a driving licence.

Rhett is right and good to admit about not owning a skyline on P's. To all the ones saying badluck, why? I dont see anything bad about gaining experience in a $hit box, getting your no claims down on a cheaper policy and driving something that doesnt provide too much temptation too plant it.

i understand

get a cheap car...

easy isurance and stuff...

but theres some thing about the youth

we want stuff now and and it fast

lol

i may be 16 but that dont mean i'm gona be a bad driver... i even hope so...

i'm not going to be one of tho's prickz that stuff the system up but still.... i'll be a prick lol

but a cheap car for your first car isn't a bad idea

but not for me mate... i'm wanting a skyline aspa lol

its a legal document now... and alot of ppl bullshit about it

Not quite, before the new laws take affect the 120hrs is/was 'reccommended' - VicRoads or the Police can't penalise or punish you for not having it filled out or making stuff up. (I sat on a Roadsafe council for a few years, and lobbied against some of these changes)

not that i could see in this topic;

well this would be the 456,783,358th time this topic had been covered...

but not for me mate... i'm wanting a skyline aspa lol

then buy one and get a licence before the new laws come in. the end.

    • Thanks for doing that Duncan! Makes you a good person in my books. We don't get kangaroos or wombats here. But we have bats and it's similar. AFAIK it's often the mums with a baby attached that get hit because they drop lower when starting from a tree. If you hit an animal, check on it. https://www.ifaw.org/au/resources/wildlife-rescue-app An app to get the closest wildlife rescue contact.
    • My dream is also to have a proper hoist, but I don't think it will ever happen. My quickjack is probably as close as I'll ever get, it really is very good though.
    • Yeah we keep on in the dailies, it is pretty poor how many animals get hit and the driver leaves without checking....have saved a couple of little ones over the years. Bit of a gruesome job though, pouches generally need to be cut open because they are so tight and often the joey doesn't realise mum is gone so they are still locked onto the teat. I checked the modules in front of the DS wheel where an oil cooler should go.... There is the radar unit - that can go for race use) One of the 2 HX water pumps, the silver cylinder. That needs to be kept but might be able to be relocated But the bad news, the big computer mounted vertically in front of the wheel (blocking any potential air exit) is the electric steering computer. That is required until/unless i do a hydraulic steering conversion, and in CAD based modern car design it is not like I can just pop a big unit like that somewhere else (plus the loom would be too short anywhere else too). So, the passenger side is OK to clear out (just use a smaller washer reservoir, potentially elsewhere), but the DS no beuno
    • Well, all the best with the new camry It was interesting to hear about the UK process, it is generally a lot more streamlined here with a shipping agent looking after all the import side (noting the exact final price can still be a surprise.....) and I've used a few different brokers on the japan (or US) side, and never had any trouble with any of them....luck of the draw I guess. You mentioned you didn't get the auction sheet (understandable since you bought it from a dealer, not auction), but I always try and get hold of that because they are pretty thorough. I've imported 2x R grade vehicles over the years and both were fine, repairs in Japan are pretty thorough compared to here in Oz.
    • BTW I measured the jack I have, it is 70mm at the saddle but you only have about 700 until it returns to 150mm high at the cylinder so it is good but no magic bullet.
