Tinkling Metallic Noise

Over the past week when i'm stopped near buildings/objects that reflect sound, etc, or cars stopped next to me at the lights, i've been heading a 'tinkling' metal-on-metal kind of noise, it's coming from the left hand side of the car as far as I can tell - and gets slightly louder by 0psi (from -20ish vaccum/idle), and then disapears.

It is only really noticable at idle and very low (<2000) revs.

At the moment, my theory is the turbo is shot... bearings or something, it's just a good 'olde ceramic r33 s2 stock turbo.

Is this the sort of thing i should stop driving straight away, or is it just likely a worn bush or something that will be fine lasting a few weeks until I organize a replacement? Not sure if this is a common symptom, although I know these turbos can shatter which worries me.

u sure its the turbo? could potentialy be pinging however thats low rpm. possibly loose bits floating around in the cat. e.g the convertor material has broken up causeing that sorta sound.

could be a loose heat shield aswell, or even your a/c compressor, pwr steer etc... or could be that dude that just cleaned your windscreen lookin for you to put change in his bucket

u just have a leak, either the exhaust manifold gasket or the gasket on the turbo to the manifold... easy fix.

ive had a couple of cats smash up from running a rich mixture and yours sounds exactly like i had

sort of like 1 marble bouncing around inside a tin container

my car was doing the exact same thing..rattling at certain revs i starting thinking all the bad things like turbo, gearbox etc ...turned out a weld on my cat had broken and two pieces were rattling against each other lol ! have you tried looking under the car to pinpoint the noise? that reminds me i gotta get around to spot welding that haha
