Engine In, Engine Out... That's What It's All About!

Recommended Posts

Well well, here we go with the pictures! I have video too, but will need to load them when I get home! Andy is in meetings all day today, but i'm sure he'll have something to say when he gets home!

It started at 8am. We rocked up to the house of a mate of Slides in Molendinar (Gold Coast). Promptly parked the car half in/half out of the garage, and started to pull shit off.

I spend the first few hours sitting on a pile of tyres just watching, taking many pictures...

After awhile, it was time to hook up the chain and rip the big girl's heart out!

Time to work on the engines while they're out, changing injectors, turbo, manifold etc...

Well folks, that's it. MASSIVE MASSIVE thanks to Aaron for all the work you did (more steak coming your way soon pal), and huge thanks to Chris for letting us use his place (hope your dad didn't go too rank about the oil spillages ). Big thanks to Jarrad and Brett (?) for helping out too! Jarrad you're a machine!

Anna xoxo

No worries anna happy to help. Sorry I had to leave but looks like you got it all done in no time

well done

Hey, no worries, it was a great surprise to have you there! And that one bolt that the boys couldn't get done up... well, it took me 45 minutes... but I did it! w00t!

Looks awesome... can't wait to see the car again... :)

In just 20 short days, supra james... not long now :)

well done anna

what was the reason for an engine change?

ummm, well... there's a lot of reasons Andy decided to do it... Main one being he didn't want to be at a track event in some other state, blow his engine, and have to pay hundreds to have it towed home, then thousands for a rebuild. The engine itself was several thousand cheaper than buying the parts and having it all done at a later stage. Other reason is that it's been runnin kinda shitty for a while, so instead of waiting for disaster to strike, and it costing more, we figured it'd be best to do it now, while it's still fine, and get more money for it.

I don't know exact details of all that has been done, but i'm sure Andy would love to brag *ahem* I mean, fill you all in later

I must admit I was doubtful but when I saw the cast of this epic, I was sure it would end well. Jarrad made good time to get to the photoshoot as well. Ingenius use of mulch saw him get up a very tall gutter in his very low car!!

Can't wait to hear about the whole process on Tuesday night at dinner!!

ahahaha that's awesome! Nice work! Oh yeh, andy can't wait to tell everyone about it all

Next time Im going to bring a ramp

OMG yes! And some better jacks. The ones we used were shit :) AND then later on after they took it for a drive, realised that they'd forgotten to bolt it to the engine mounts! Ahahaha!

I need a new body.

All those who doubted obviously dont know what cripple power is.

Having said that hospital stay last night was sooooo good. lol

I didnt get to do a DADAAAAAH style finished pose doh!!

Im glad my baby could go to someone i know

CLUB FORGED FTW

so let me get this straight , u bought slide's engine with forged internals, put it into your car while yours is being rebuilt bigger and stronger?so u can sell it then.....

:)

The other one will be sold as is (I think I found the reason it was running crap) They dont come much stronger than the engine in there now :O

Wiseco forged pistons 20' oversize, Eagle I beam rods with arp2000 bolts, ARP head studs, ARP main bolts, full gasket kit, Gates racing timing belt, Commetic metal head gasket, King Race main and big end bearings, N1 oil pump, N1 Water Pump, Nismo Thermostat, NGK tensioner and idler bearings, machined balanced cryo treated crank, fully serviced head with replaced valves, lifters all machined to perfection, built by me.

There is probably more i have forgotten.

But it is definately the shit.....

    • That still isn't a lot to go on. I don't have a Y50 Fuga Head Unit wiring diagram. I can say that a lot of nissans of that age shared head unit plugs, so if you are in Australia something like this would probably help: https://aerpro.com/app091# You plug that into the car loom, then either plug the head unit ISO into that (if it has ISO), or you buy and ISO adapter harness that you wire in. Bit of stuffing around, but once you have ISO its easy to change things in future.
    • It is a kunfine Android screen . Does anyone know the wirering diagram of the fuga ??
    • just an update to this, poor man pays twice  Tried sanding down the pulleys but it didnt do the trick. Chucked another second hand alternator in the na car which I got for free off my mate and its fixed the squelling. Must have been unlucky with the bearings.    As for my turbo car, I managed to pick up a cwc rb alternator conversion bracket + LS alternator for 250 off marketplace, looked to be in really good nick. Installed it , started the car and its not charging the battery.... ( Im not good with auto elec stuff so im not sure if this was all I needed to do but I verified such by using a multimeter on the battery when the engine was running and I was only getting 12.2v )   I had to modify the earth strap for the new LS alternator , factory earth strap was a 10mm bolt which did not fit the bolt on the LS alternator which was double the size so I cut it off , went to repco bought some ring terminals that fit, crimped it onto the old earth strap and bolted it up to the alternator , started the car and same issue. Ran like shit and was reading 12.2 at the battery.  For a "plug and play" advertised kit thats not very plug and play but alas.  My question is , am I missing something ? Ive been reading that some people recommend upgrading the stock 80 amp alternator fuse to a 140 amp but I dont see how that would stop the alternator charging especially at idle not under load.  Regardless ive pulled it out and am going to get it bench tested by an auto elec tomorrow but it would be handy to know if ive missed something silly or have done something wrong.
    • My wild guess is that you have popped off an intake pipe....check all of the hoses between the turbo and the throttle for splits or loose clamps.
    • Awesome, thanks for sharing!
