hey guys

I finaly got a chance to put her to the test.... I will post the Dyno sheet over the next few days..

We had a few power runs and it came up as 175.4 RWKW

I have got an x-force exhaust 3 inch turbo back .

ARC front mount

APEXI air filter

blitz bov

and STOCK BOOST , STandar ECU

I dont know how good or bad this is but from what my mate was telling me he was impressed... let us know what you think ??? and how much more will i get if I ran say around the 11 psi boost ..... ???

often the small stock IC wont be able to cool down the hot turbo air enough at higher load/rpm, so your FMIC may be helping there. though the figure does sound a tad high for just a fmic and exhaust (and filter, but that probably makes stuff all difference)?

nice power from mods, my 96 33 made 169kw from just an exhaust, cant wait to get cooler, but wont be much higher, prob around urs, but it will be a lil more consistent. im pretty sure the rough calculation for boost is 10kw per psi...ur boost prob crept up to around 8 maybe 8.5 becasue of exhaust. 11 psi should put out 20-30kw higher, so should go close to crack the 200kw

above are the graphs, I should mention that the second is a metric ready ?? which is alot higher the original metric ready came back at 215 KW that one is showing 204.5 (as he printed the wrong one ) WHat is metric ready and why is it so much higher ???

the second one looks like its done in 2nd gear (yet it says 3rd gear).

they didnt give u power vs AFR or boost or anything?

Na I asked about it and the bloke said after he finished that he didnt connect the leads that will show how much boost. but Im only running stock I dont have boost controller

the bloke I went to just got the dyno machines so i think he is still learning but he seemed to know what he was talking about and any questions I asked I got answers for that were pretty much rite ?!

those graphs dont tell you much ? he has invited me back next week if i get boost (free of charge) for another run.

it says 90kph or whatever on the second one - no way ur only going 90 at 3rd gear redline

u could be getting a decent figure for many reasons:

1) dyno not calibrated right

2) correction factors (i assume this is what cause the 200+ kw readings) not right (they might not be right for any of your runs) - ie shootout mode or whatever mode that takes into account temperature and other things to adjust your readings, might not be correct

3) leaning out a lot giving you more power but potentially getting close to killing ur engine (no way to know without AFR)

4) might be running higher boost than you think (no way to know without boost reading, although assuming you have a boost gauge you should have a good idea)

make sure when u go back, for whatever ur final run is, get at least power vs AFR, and torque vs boost (or whatever combination of those on 2 graphs), and find out if its been calibrated right

i havent been to dynos that often, so many someone else can explain a bit more

yeah I know the 204 KW was deffinantly not right, Id like to think I have a half decent car but 204 rwkw is not my cars performance yet and I dont need no dyno to tell me that !LOL

I have an apexi boost guage and its on 0.5 bars

My RB20DET is making 204.(can't remember the point bit) or 274.8rwhp at the moment with Wolf ECU, bleed valve at 13psi, Blitz BOV, RB25 turbo and 3 inch turbo back exhaust. You will probably find an aftermarket ECU (Wolf, PowerFC, whatever you prefer) and a good tune will take that comfortably higher.

    • I don't know it is due to that. It could just be due to load on track being more than a dyno. But it would be nice to rule it out. We're talking a fraction of a second of pulling ~1 degree of timing. So it's not a lot, but I'd rather it be 0... Thicker oil isn't really a "bandaid" if it's oil that is going to run at 125C, is it? It will be thicker at 100 and thus at 125, where the 40 weight may not be as thick as one may like for that use. I already have a big pump that has been ported. They (They in this instance being the guy that built my heads) port them so they flow more at lower RPM but have a bypass spring that I believe is ~70psi. I have seen 70psi of oil pressure up top in the past, before I knew I had this leak. I have a 25 row oil cooler that takes up all the space in the driver side guard. It is interesting that GM themselves recommend 0-30 oil for their Vette applications. Unless you take it to the track where the official word is to put 20-50w oil in there, then take that back out after your track day is done and return to 0-30.
    • Nice, looks great. Nice work getting the factory parts also. Never know when you'll need them.
    • Thanks @jtha7 I will have a look around tomorrow but it is a prick of a spot. These are some photos i tried taking
    • I take it that the knock retard is from bearings tapping a little tune? Thicker oil is a fragile bandaid. You need a much bigger oil cooler and probably the bigger pump being discussed.
    • Hi @Chupapy i had several leaks from coolant pipes being corroded, i also had one leak on back of the head onto transmission. For me that leak was from the turbo water line. Follow the line to the back of the head The hose and metal pipe had perished these are the best pics I took of it at the time
