Tein Coilovers, Views/experiences?

Recommended Posts

I have them. As suggested ride quality is terrible. like a race car. Launches??? Well i have no idea. Ive only driven my car a few times and both times i did 0-100's for fun i got mad wheelspin. I cant compare it to standard suspension cos ive never driven a line with it. Sorry.

Guest Boxhead

the ones in myn are not as bad as people make out, sure, they are harder then stock suspension, but isnt that the idea???

if your not willing to put up with the harder ride, stick with stockies..

but the only bad thing about myn, i dont have a spanner for the heigh adjustable..

if you get 2, make sure you tell me, i wouldnt mind one of em

I have them also, and I'll go along with what 'Boxhead' has said...they are hard, even if they are wound right up, but they are fun on a windy road...the car just sticks like sh#t to a blanket.

Boxhead, if you are handy.....with your hands, PM me and I can suggest a solution to your TEIN adjustment woes.

cheers Ozzy

hey

i have Tein HA coilovers, height and damper adjustable (24 point), they came with the car. You feel every little bump, i mean every single little bump there is on the road. but when you are driving on a smooth road its rewarding. basically if you can put with the harsh ride, then they will be ok. if you set the damper to softest, the ride can become a bit bouncey. the softest setting is still what you would call 'hard'.

As for launching, on the street i have managed to launch it fine, but now my tyres are starting to go, theres a bit of negative camber on the rears since it's lowered a bit, which is causing the inner tread to wear faster than the rest of the tyre. most of the time now it will just spin in 1st and 2nd then start to grip, which isn't really any good. These tyres are Falken Ziex 255's, not really impressed with them but im sure with decent rubber it would launch well.

i think the suspension could be set up for drags but i think they're mostly meant for trackwork, increase cornering threshold and all that kinda things.

but it's fully adjustable so u should be able to find a setting for ur power to get hard launches.

fyi: the hks skyline had suspension that was too hard and couldn't get decent launches when it dragged in qld. had to have a set of springs made, so dun assume hardest = best

Tein are b/shit hard from the first little bump.

HKS hyper dampers have a small amount of give which works well on small bumps.

Both are average for launch cos they won't allow rear to squat and therefore increase weight which = traction

Cheers

Ken

Sir Bean, I don't drag...it voids my insurance. However, when my foot has slipped accidently too hard onto the accelerator I get wheel spin, but no shudder. I think that this would indicate that if I could get some decent slicks, a decent launch RPM, I reckon I would get a decent time.

cheers Ozzy

Guest Sir Bean

at the moment i have kings lowered springs (1inch) i was going to get the super lows (1.5 inch) but according to the guys in the know (whiteline mainly) they say any lower than 1inch and you dont get 100% suspension travel, and can bottom out/damage shocks and suspension, and basically it will worsen your handling!

A quote from a whiteline article on the 33 "A sharper Skyline" :- "If you want good handling on a 33 you cant lower it more than 25mm" (unless you go full coilovers like i am doing) I would get the whiteline adjustable coilovers, but anyone got 3 grand plus for me :)?? But i will get the sway bars.

The bilstein shocks whiteline suply are bout 900 bucks. Add roughly 300 for some decent lowered Kings etc and you got 1200 bucks outlay, and no adjustability. Im getting the tiens for little more than 1200, so it makes sense to me! Plus i can DUMP it for shows, or whenever i wanna get defected for pimping :D

    • My bad, I unplugged the one underlined in red instead of yellow before. With the car started, after unplugging the IACV (the one underlined in yellow), it idled at around 400/500 for 3 seconds before stalling. Attempting to start the car without the IACV will not start the car.   It does stutter and sputter for around 5 seconds before dying. However, immediately after starting it, you can already hear some slight sputters from the exhaust.   It won't start with the AFM unplugged. If it is when the car has already started, it stalls in a few seconds.   Yesterday, I did take some logs using Nistune of 3 scenarios. Car idling till it stalls Car idling and unplugging the IACV Car idling and removing the AFM I also have some previous logs of when the Car is idling till it stalls and when driving and it cuts. I am not really knowledgeable enough to understand what to look for. After every test, car idles rougher and rougher, until I have to stop. It will be fine the day after.
    • There is no difference between a 17x8 and an 18x8. The total diameter of the tyre needs to remain +/- the same (so you don't mess up the gearing, speedo reading, and clearance when turning front wheels..... so you just need to use a lower profile tyre on th 18 than you do on the 17. /rocket surgery.
    • I thought the same to start with. But then I thought it was one of those LCAs where the end of the ARB goes through a bushing in the LCA itself, instead of having an end link.
    • Yeah - I mean, go the other way. Smaller range. Not larger.
    • To re-cap, I bought: https://www.alibaba.com/product-detail/Lsailt-8G-Infiniti-Q50-Q60-2014_1601171829627.html?spm=a2756.trade-list-buyer.0.0.2cd476e9FTIlKE As you can see, if I bought 20 it was $653, but I bought 1 so it was $1,170. I was very tempted to buy 2 and resell 1 at 25% cheaper. @MBS206, I am not sure if they do a Kluger one, here is their list but it might be there under a global model name: http://www.lsailt.com/product/android-interface?page=1 Keep in mind these full android replacements have basically all the bits a phone does (cpu, ram, storage, wifi, bluetooth, usb interfaces) other than a screen (it uses a host), thus the $800+ cost. Android Auto screen mirroring is MUCH cheaper as it's just a cut down shell, input mirroring and output mirroring BTW I also need that "screen off" feature, it is much harder to see wildlife even if a dash is reasonably dark. Both the Fuga and V37 have display off buttons for night use, they just come back on for a second or 3 if you interact with it, eg skip a song.
